Andrews of Stratford residents and their families took part in the annual Family BBQ in August. There was food, drinks, live music and lots of laughter. It’s an event our residents look forward to every summer and we are thrilled to be able to host.
Residents at Andrews of Charlottetown celebrated National Acadian Day in August by taking part in the Tintamarre, a parade where revelers march to the music of bells, horns, drums, pots and pans. Residents then enjoyed traditional Acadian treats like sugar tarts, along with tea and coffee.
Raymond’s birdhouses are made of six pieces of pressure-treated wood. He prefers a front board of 10 inches in height with a 1 and 3/8 inch hole drilled approximately 1 and 3/4 inches from the top. To simplify assembly, he pre-drills all his screws. He then uses wood glue to secure the pieces in place before tightening the screws. The first step is to secure the two side pieces to the back piece to form the basic structure.
The next step is to secure the front board. Raymond uses pre-drilled pennies (one on each side of the front board) as spacers. He then uses two screws (one on each side, lined up with the pennies) to tighten the board into place. This set-up allows the front of be opened and closed without taking the whole house apart, making cleaning easier. At this point, he secures the base, or bottom, piece. This leaves only the roof piece to be secured.
The final step is to secure the sloped roof. The roof is designed to overhang, offering shelter around the entrance. Again, Raymond pre-drills his holes, uses wood glue and tightens his screws into place.
