ALWAYS STRIVING FOR BETTER As many of you may already know, our Accreditation level has been upgraded from Accreditation with Commendation to Accredited with Exemplary Standing. This is the highest level of Accreditation available through Accreditation Canada and a massive achievement. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. As you’re aware, Accreditation is not something that happens in a silo. It takes effort from every department and we had to demonstrate our commitment, professionalism and expertise as a team. This upgrade is a testament to the kind of team we have at Andrews. Of course, this also means that we have set a higher bar for ourselves. However, I believe strongly that we will not only maintain the standards we have achieved but continue to surpass them. COMING SOON The expansion at Andrews of Charlottetown is nearing completion. Currently, we expect construction to be finished in October and are aiming to start moving residents in by January. We will be opening to residents in two phases to ensure adequate staffing, licensing aligns. In the weeks ahead we will be working on recruitment and will be hiring for some positions internally. Information will be sent out to DOC’s and posted on iTacit for those interested in applying. CHANGE OF PLANS Unfortunately, due to weather we had to cancel our annual Family Day event at Shining Waters. However, as mentioned last week, the tickets are still usable until the end of the season. I encourage anyone who requested tickets to attend. The weather this time of year is still sunny and warm - perfect for a day at a waterpark. As for plans to get together as a group - we will have opportunities in the fall and again during the Christmas season. I hope you all had a great summer. I wish you all the best as we head back to school and routines. Sincerely,

Mizan MISSION STATEMENT It is Andrews Senior Care's goal to respect the dignity and autonomy of our residents; to provide a safe and secure environment; to promote involvement of residents and their family by inviting input and feedback related to the care and services we provide; to value the leadership, expertise and contributions of our staff through empowerment that will lead to excellence in service.

RETIREMENT REUNION

“It’s a privilege.” That’s how Dot McIver described reconnecting with her former schoolmate Olga Callbeck after decades apart. The two went to school together at St. Joseph’s Convent, commonly referred to as the Miscouche Convent, in the late 1940's and early 1950's. They both went their separate ways after graduating. Olga went to college in Nova Scotia, spent time in Buffalo, western Canada, and eventually moved back to P.E.I. in 1955. Dot took a course from the convent after high school and began working at Corney Brothers’ car dealership. She worked there for five years before meeting her husband and relocating to Ontario where she remained until 2004.

They reunited in May when Olga moved into Andrews of Summerside just a few doors down from Dot. It was Dot who first made the connection. “She recognized me first,” said Olga. “Then when she said she went to school with me and her name was Dot, I said ‘’not Dot Saulnier?’” The two laugh when the story is told, each filling in details for the other. They later realized they both still had the same photo from high school and have bonded over shared memories and talking about their families. “It’s just wonderful,” said Olga. “We’ve become very good friends in here.”
