Artificial light is essential in our modern society,

to illuminate streets, foot-

paths, sports grounds and buildings. It is used more

and more to provide secu-

rity lighting and to enhance the appearance of buildings at night.

So many people are scared of the dark for many reasons:

But in Bucharest still many streets don’t have lights... from night-time illumination outdoors.

There is a demand for outdoor lighting for road safety, personal security against crime, and evening social and commercialactivities. However, it is not at all clear that when it comes to outdoor lighting, more is necessarily better.

Careful design to ensure appropriate light levels where it is really needed would seem to yield greater benefits.

So we are going to let you barrow light when entering a

strret that has no light. Whenever you see the object below you can stop being afraid !

The actual orientation system used by RATB does not

provide enough information and can give bus travelers and tourists a hard time. We will propose in the next pages a design for a new info system that can be applied in the stations and also inside the buses.

Actualul sistem de orientare folosit de RATB nu oferă informații suficiente călătorilor Bucureşteni, cu atât mai puțin turistilor.

In următoarele pagini vom propune un sistem de informare

aplicabil atât în stațiile RATB cât şi în interiorul mijloacelor de transport în comun.

Our topic of social importance for Bucharest is the

increasing number of stray

dogs on its streets. Our stra-

tegy pursuits the purpose of

convincing people to adopte a dog or to buy different items to raise money for

helping them. We thought

of three graphic proposals: > three different types of stickers, that can be also

used as a label for different items;

> a postcard, that is also

used for raising money and to encourage adoption;

> a poster that speaks about adoption.

The story of Romanian people and their wins and loses during the days of the Revolution.

Revoluția Română din 1989 a constat într-o serie de proteste, lupte

La fel ca în țările vecine, în anul 1989 majoritatea populației

economică și de dezvoltare a lui Ceaușescu (inclusiv proiecte

de stradă și demonstrații în luna decembrie a anului 1989, care au Nicolae Ceaușescu. Demonstrațiile din ce în ce mai ample au

culminat cu procesul controversat și execuția lui Ceaușescu și a

soției sale Elena. Înainte de revoluția română, toate celelalte state est-europene trecuseră în mod pașnic la democrație; România a fost singura țară din blocul estic care a trecut printr-o revoluție violentă și în care conducătorii comuniști au fost executați.

Reprimarea a devenit foarte dură îndeosebi după lansarea zvonului între scutieri că în Piața Romană mai mulți colegi de-ai lor au fost înjunghiați cu șurubelnițe. La un moment dat, toți pasagerii care au coborât la stația de metrou Piața Universității (inclusiv femeile, bătrânii și copiii) au fost maltratați.

Cei prinși erau bătuți, târâți pe jos, obligați să se culce pe burtă, unii peste alții, în grămezi.

Every statue in Bucharest has its name on it but only a few know

who they actually represent. Adding a specific detail to each one is a way of showing people their stories in an attreactive and provoking manner.

Name: I.L. Caragiale Lived: 1852- 1912 Birthplace: Haimanale, Prahova Function: playwriter, pamfleteer, poet, writer Information: added a mirror to express the way he described and bantered the society of his time.

Name: Grigore Cantacuzino Lived: 1832- 1913 Birthplace: Bucharest Function: Prime- Minister, Mayor of Bucharest Information: added the bag of coins because he was one of the richest men in Romania at the time who claimed he can cover a mansion roof in coins made of pure gold.

Name: Carol Davila Lived: 1828- 1913 Birthplace: Parma, Italy Function: doctor Information: added a stethoscope to enphasise the fact that he had a huge importance in the developement of the Romanian sanitary infrastructure.

Name: Vasile Lascăr Lived: 1853- 1907 Birthplace: Șoimășești, Gorj Function: Minister of Interns Information: added a police bat as he was the one who proposed the first organic law of the police.

For a long time parking is a big issue in Bucarest. What we are trying to achieve with this campaign is to raise some funds in order to build multi-story carparks. We believe they are the best solution to cure the parking problem.

They are safer, easier to find (via SatNav or digital signs),

ergonomical and for a few cents you can leave your car in

a civilised surveillanced place. This a campaign for a better Bucarest.

This project focuses on the identity of streets in Bucharest. Today, you can find three different name designs on the same street. Street signs need to be upgraded and personalised, Bucharest’s face needs a lifting. My proposal is based on traditional romanian decorative patterns in the context of the digital age.

We know that elderly are to be taken care of, but what happens to the city that is growing old, too? Why some streets are to be preserved, and the others are left out? Here are

some examples of buildings in the historycal part of Bucharest, which, because of chaotic privatisation or the careless-

ness of the government are now damaged. This is like a real disease, it is spreading, but together we can stop it!

“Positude” is a campaign for smiles.

These cards contain positive messages and are made

available to the public online, on a website, and offline on

the street, the subway, the bus and any other public space where there are people that need to smile.The purpose of

this endeavor is determining people to have a positive attitude, even if it is for a little while.

“Pozitudine” este o campanie pentru zâmbete.

Aceste cartele cu mesaje pozitive sunt puse la dispoziția publicului pe un site și împărțite pe stradă, în metrou, în autobuz și oriunde unde sunt oameni care au nevoie să zâmbească. Scopul acestui

Acum câţiva ani mă întorceam dintr-o călătorie prin Italia.

Eram cu maşina,împreună cu câteva cunoştinţe.Toate

aceste cunoştinţe s-au forţat pe toată durata drumului să

nu arunce nici cel mai mic ambalaj prin toate celelalte ţări pe care le-am parcurs până când am ajuns la graniţa cu

România.În schimb, de îndată ce am intrat in România, s-au

grăbit să golească maşina de pet-uri şi alte ramaşiţe uitate în maşină pe durata vizitei noastre în Italia.De-aici, am ajuns

la ceea ce vedeţi pe umătoarea pagină,ca reacţie apropo de

cât de puţin ne interesează pe unde ne aruncăm gunoaiele.

B a creative approach This publication is the outcome of a one week

workshop conducted by andrews:degen, a graphic

design studio based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Nineteen students from the graphic design and the

fine art graphics department at the National University of Arts, UNArte in Bucharest, were participating.

The research was focusing on social issues and graphical communication elements in the city of Bucharest.

Students developed interventions and campaigns

referring to topics as tolerance, environment, traffic, wayfinding and many others. Design thinking as

a way to support social change and improvement.
