Nick Cabrera Sells Big at Toyota of Smithfield By Mark Berger
In his two-and-a-half years as the sales representative and trainer for the Northern Rhode Island dealership, Nick Cabrera has overseen a positive attitude in its nineperson sales force. That has translated into satisfied and more importantly, returning customers. Like other co-workers, Cabrera previously worked with General Manager John Durrani in Vermont, before reuniting with him in Smithfield. He said the ability to make a sale goes far beyond their selection. “It comes down to how you treat the customers as a dealership,” Cabrera said. “The customers here may be a bit more blunt, but they are knowledgeable about what they want and what their budget will allow them to purchase. Their experience is a reflection on us so we work hard to provide a positive attitude and demeanor so they will want to come back.” In his trainer’s role, Cabrera has helped several new employees learn the ways of the dealership. The biggest takeaway he noticed is the transparency in each transaction. There isn’t the “old way” of doing things—now it’s just being up front and giving customers the best deals on their current inventory.

Cabrera said that his goals are to one day become sales manager and the top dealership in sales in the state. He believes both of those goals are attainable. “We don’t work in a high- pressure environment. There is competition, but it isn’t cutthroat. We don’t work on commission, which is a huge difference, as well. Everyone is pulling for each other to be successful,” Cabrera said. The dealership will hold its monthly private sale. This month’s event takes place on September 24-25 from 10: 00 AM until 6:00 PM. This is done by appointment only. Those who attend can be expected to follow social guidelines, but will also have access to their inventory. Managers will be on hand to answer questions and to offer additional incentives.
