ian festivals,” said Palmisano, who is a third-generation feast festival promoter and a well-known local philanthropist. Our family loves the area and has been a part of this community for years. When this space (for the restaurant) was available, it was like coming home again,” he continued.
The restaurant employs a dozen people and prides itself on serving dishes with a nod to the “Old Country.” Diners can feast on several signature dishes, including their bone-in veal chops that are so big that they take up the entire plate, their linguini and clams and their Italian stuffed artichokes. Patrons can also dive into their fresh fish dishes, chicken or veal parmigiana with pasta, or perhaps for dessert, their amazingly delicious homemade cannolis.
Perhaps their calling card is their "World Famous Expresso Martinis,” among other specialty cocktails that are infused with rosemary, ginger and other herbs to give them an authentic flair and taste.
Palmisano said that his goal for operating a successful restaurant is simple: “I want people to feel like they are eating at my house.”
He noted about how meals are cultivated back in Italy. “It starts with visiting the local butcher shop for the freshest meat, then walking to the garden to select the vegetables, and maybe to the local store to pick up a bottle of wine. Palmisano said that the restaurant strives to maintain this tradition because “farm to table” offers the best quality and flavors for their customers.
“I hope that when customers visit Anthony’s Italian Cuisine, they enjoy a little piece of Italy with every made-to-order dish,” he said.
The restaurant is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM, and Sunday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The bar remains open one hour after closing.
They also cater events and have daily specials and promotions. For more details about these upcoming events, please call 401273-5900. More details may be found by visiting their website at www.AnthonysonFederalHill.com.

Flying This Summer? Cut TSA Lines for Free
Already dreading long security lines for your next flight? There’ve long been services that allow you to cut those lines, but you’ve got to open your wallet and do a good amount of prep work for them. Now, an option for those short on funds and time: the Reserve service by Clear, a free program that allows customers to book a spot ahead of time that sends them to the front of the line at TSA checkpoints.
Airbnb isn’t content with growing from a couch-surfing business to a multibillion-dollar company with 7.7 million listings worldwide. It’s now offering what it calls “the most extraordinary experiences on Earth,” one-of-a-kind adventures taking place around the world, from tequila tasting with Kevin Hart to a private concert by singer-rapper Doja Cat in her own living room. And in one of the more bizarre offerings, guests will get the chance to stay in a replica of the home from Pixar’s Up, topped with more than 8,000 colorful balloons. The balloons won’t lift the house off the ground, but a crane will—for the extent of the overnight stay in Abiquiu, New Mexico.
The Clear site explains how the process works: In advance of your flight (how long in advance depends on the airport), you’d simply log on to make a reservation for the time you’d like to pass through security. You’ll receive a QR code that, on the day of your flight, you’ll show to a staffer in the Reserve lane near the TSA checkpoint. The service isn’t available at every airport (there are about 20 in the US, Canada, and Europe currently listed) and even at those airports, the service may be limited to certain areas. A company rep said they’re working on adding more airports into the mix.
These are all offerings in Airbnb’s new “Icons” collection of “extraordinary experiences hosted by the greatest names in music, film, television, art, sports, and more.” Consider it an expansion of the 90 or so one-of-a-kind stays and experiences Airbnb has offered in recent years, incorporating Chicago’s Home Alone house and Shrek’s Scottish swamp. “As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world,” Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesk says in a statement. “Icons take you inside worlds that only existed in your imagination—until now.”
Reserve customers must still remove their shoes and jackets and take their electronics out for screening. Clear also offers a paid service called Clear Plus, which for the price of $189 per year allows users to not only skip to the front of the line, but also to not have to show ID; instead, your eyes or fingerprints are scanned.
TSA PreCheck also offers a paid service ($78 for five years) that, because you’ve gone through advance vetting, means you don’t have to remove your shoes, jacket, laptop, or other items. Reserve remains an option for those who don’t want to pay. “Travelers can now save even more time by seamlessly reserving their spot in the security line,” a Clear rep said in a statement.
TravelTips
The service is launching with a contest, per Quartz. Up to 4,000 Airbnb users who come across “golden tickets” will be asked about their connection to an Icon offering before winners are announced. Up to 15 guests will attend a one-timeonly concert by Doja Cat. Other winners will enjoy tequila tasting and live stand-up with Kevin Hart at his members-only Coramino Live Lounge, enjoy a stay at Prince’s former home in Minneapolis, have a sleepover in Paris’ Musée d’Orsay alongside the Olympic torch, or visit the home of Bollywood star Janhvi Kapoor. All experiences cost less than $100 per guest. Spots are limited and will be handed out via lottery.

Shop In RI Selects: The Taste of Maine Restaurant in Woolwich, Maine for having the world’s largest lobster roll.
Shop In RI Selects Sugarbush Resort, Vermont as their #1 Skiing Getaway on the East Coast!
Shop In RI Selects: Old Orchard Beach, Maine as their #1 weekend getaway for families.
Taking your family to Old Orchard Beach is like stepping into a timeless seaside haven, where the charm of a classic coastal town meets the excitement of a vibrant vacation destination. With its miles of soft sandy beaches, lively boardwalk, and plethora of family-friendly activities, Old Orchard Beach offers something for everyone. Whether it’s building sandcastles by the shore, strolling along the iconic Pier, indulging in delicious seafood, or enjoying thrilling amusement park rides, there’s never a dull moment. The town’s welcoming atmosphere and nostalgic ambiance make it the perfect setting for creating cherished memories with your loved ones, where laughter echoes against the backdrop of crashing waves and the salty breeze carries the promise of endless summer adventures.
There are a few food items that are synonymous with Maine, one of them being the ever-so-delicious lobster roll. Tourists have been flocking to every corner of the Pine Tree state for decades to devour the delicacy. However, not all lobster rolls are built the same. Often, the biggest complaint people have about a lobster is...not enough lobster. So, the Taste of Maine restaurant in Woolwich decided to solve that problem once and for all. Shared on Facebook by Taste of Maine restaurant, they claim to be serving the world’s largest lobster roll, a monster sub at least three times the size of a typical lobster roll. The number one question in comments seems to be about the price. Given current market conditions for lobster, the daily market price for the ’world’s largest lobster roll’ has been between $150 and $170. Some will scoff at the price, but if you’re traveling from afar just to get your hands on a Maine lobster roll, why not try the largest one?
Sugarbush is an overlooked gem among its peers, with many skiers heading to nearby Killington, Stowe, or Mad River Glen over this double mountain resort. So why shouldn’t you do the same? To put it simply, Sugarbush offers practically everything that those more popular ski areas boast, minus the crowds. So if you fancy schussing down a freshly groomed slope without queuing for a lift or dodging snowploughers this could be just the place for you!
Tourists Risk Arrest for Last Chance on Hawaii Trail
Fourth of July Airfare Down By 27% From Last Year
Famed Ha'iku Stairs in Oahu are coming down
Travelers who plan to fly over the Fourth of July holiday weekend can expect to pay less for their domestic tickets this year, as round trip tickets will be 27% lower this year than they were at the same time in 2022.
A round-trip ticket this year will cost a traveler a little more than $300, which is over $100 cheaper than last year. The prices of round-trip tickets are in line with how much round-trip tickets cost in 2019, according to an analysis by Hopper.
Terrain: The resort is made up of two interconnected mountains, Lin coln Peak, where the majority of trails are, and Mount Ellen. Other lower peaks include Castle Rock, Gadd Peak and North Lynx. For the type of gnarly terrain you would expect from Mad River Glen, just hop aboard the Castle Rock Double chair to Castle Rock. From the top at 3,812 ft, you’ll have the steep double black chutes of Lift Line and Rumble to get stuck into. If clocking up maximum vertical drop is more your thing then you’ll find the slopes here laid out much better for top-to-bottom shredding than at Killington. Even if you ski all 111 trails here, there’s also 2,000 ac of backcountry to explore in the Slide Brook Basin area!
This year, the most booked destination in the United States over the Fourth of July weekend, which is from June 30 through July 4, is Las Vegas. The domestic cities that follow include
For tourists using Instagram to guide their travels, a sojourn for one last shot at visiting the famous Ha’iku Stairs in Oahu could come with a hefty price. The days are numbered for Honolulu’s famous selfie spot, and CNN reports that tourists are flocking there hoping to grab a glimpse of the island from its heights before the stairs are dismantled. The problem is that the hike—nicknamed “Stairway to Heaven”—is illegal and passes through private property in sections. At least five people were arrested for first-degree trespassing last month and lots more received warnings or lesser charges. ”The city was disappointed and dismayed to learn that so many individuals appear to have recklessly disregarded clear warnings that

June 29 and June 30 are expected to be the busiest days of the holiday weekend, with 3.7 million people expected to depart from U.S. airports on both days. The least busy day of the long weekend will be on the Fourth of July itself. A total of 3.5 million people are expected to depart from airports on July 5.
Town: If all that wasn’t enough, Sugarbush is generally a notch cheaper than pricey Stowe, but not at the sacrifice of luxury. For lavish lodgings, look no further than Lincoln Peak Village. For these reasons and more, when it comes to the most practical ski destination in Vermont, Sugarbush is a fantasic choice for a winter weekend getaway!
The busiest airport in the country is expected to be Atlanta’s, where over 1.8 million travelers are expected to pass through. Other airports which will be exceedingly busy include Dallas (DFW), Denver (DEN), Los Angeles (LAX), and Las Vegas (LAS).
the project to dismantle the Ha’iku Stairs has begun, putting themselves and first responders—in harm’s way,” said a spokeswoman for the city of Honolulu. The Washington Post notes that rescues from the trail—the 3,922 stairs rise to 2,800 feet above sea level—have been unfortunately frequent. Between 2010 and October 2022, authorities rescued more than 100 people.
For travelers who are driving instead of flying, car rental prices are also down considerably from last year at 25%. On average, car rentals this year will set back travelers $47 per day.
The Ha’iku Stairs were built by the US Navy during World War II, but were officially closed in 1987. Honolulu’s city council voted in 2021 to remove the steps, which attract an estimated 4,000 visitors each year.

There’s a Fresh Geyser Mystery in
Yellowstone
She Became a Bride and a Widow Within Minutes
Johnnie Mae had suffered two recent losses, including that of her father, when she stood in front of friends and family and committed to the love of her life on
Monday. But within the hour, her groom was dead, too. As Mae and new husband Toraze Davis of Omaha, Nebraska, left the church where they said “I do,” Davis suffered a blood clot that made his heart stop. “It happened within seconds ... just after the ceremony had begun,” friend Jewel Roberson said. Family and friends are now rallying behind Mae, director of ECO Supportive Living, which assists the elderly and those with disabilities. “Johnnie Mae has suffered through so much,” says Roberson. Now “she’s been widowed and married in a 10-minute span.”
It’s the tallest active geyser on the planet— with an emphasis on “active.” From 2015 to 2017, it didn’t erupt at all. There was another largely quiet period from 1911 to 1961, but in 2018 it logged a record-setting 32 eruptions, a feat it has crushed this year with 47 eruptions, per the US Geological Survey. Why? Good question, and one that hasn’t been answered. It’s one on a long list of geyser mysteries, in fact. The geyser-research field is a thin one, and as Yellowstone National Park’s hydrologist explained the area beneath Steamboat hasn’t been mapped. However, seismic sensors there have revealed that the geyser’s water source may sit as deep as 130 feet.
Ticketmaster’s bad month appears to be getting worse. A well-known hacking group claims to have stolen information on 560 million customers, Quartz reports. In a post on a hacking forum, the group, ShinyHunters, offered to sell the 1.3 terabytes of data for a “one-time price” of $500,000. It provided a sample that included partial credit card numbers as well as names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers, along with details of their Ticketmaster orders, reports Cyber Daily. The Australian outlet notes that an identical post was made on a Russian forum.
Australian authorities said they are “working with Ticketmaster to understand the incident,” the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reports. A US embassy spokesperson told AFP that the FBI has offered its assistance. It’s not clear whether the alleged hack has a specific link to Australia, but “due to the time frame in which the hackers shared their breach, it appears Australian outlets were the first to cover the news.”
“It’s seriously the saddest thing ever,” Tricia Pugsley said. She was supposed to DJ the couple’s wedding reception, but “they went to the hospital instead.” That’s where Mae “had to say goodbye to her new husband.”
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $20,000 for Mae and the children the couple shared. Mae “always helps others; this is our time to help her,” the page reads. Some are finding solace in knowing that 48-year-old Davis died on what was evidently “the happiest day of his life,” a friend said. Another friend says she hopes the tragedy will teach others to care for themselves, including through annual

ShinyHunters has been involved in previous data breaches but this one hasn’t been confirmed yet. “Right now, since we only have the attackers’ words to go on, it’s too early to make any firm statements about whether there was a breach and what, if any, data was stolen,” Christopher Budd at security company Sophos tells Cyber Daily.
If confirmed, the data breach “could have severe implications for the affected users, leading to potential identity theft, financial fraud, and further cyber attacks,” reports HackRead.
The alleged hack comes a week after the US Justice Department filed an antitrust lawsuit against Ticketmaster and parent company Live Nation Entertainment.
Most other geysers seem to be fueled by shallower reserves; deeper equals warmer, so that could be a factor in Steamboat’s ability to propel water to heights of more than 300 feet. Michael Poland with the USGS earlier this year said it’s possible that increased snowfall in Yellowstone of late has led to more groundwater to fuel the geyser. What scientists are saying is that there’s no link between the increased activity and any potential looming eruption of Yellowstone’s supervolcano. “Yellowstone has an incredible geyser system that is unrelated to magmatic activity—other than the magmatic system basically providing heat,” tweeted one volcanologist. USA Today noted that the Waimangu Geyser in New Zealand has managed to shoot water taller than Steamboat has, but it’s been
Real Life Happy Gilmore Hears From Adam Sandler
For the record, his given name is Landon Gilmore. But the teenage Indiana golfer has been going by ”Happy Gilmore” since he was a little kid because he can hit the ball like the fictional player of that name in Adam Sandler’s 1996 movie, per the Indianapolis Star. Now, the two have connected in real life. After Gilmore announced his commitment to golf for Ball State University, Sandler took note on Twitter. ”Go get em Happy,” Sandler wrote. ”Pulling for you.” Replied
Josh Gibson became Major League Baseball’s career leader, with a .372 batting average that surpasses Ty Cobb’s .367. The change came thanks to the incorporation of Negro Leagues records for more than 2,300 players following a three-year research project.
Gibson’s .466 average for the 1943 Homestead Grays became the season standard, followed by Charlie “Chino” Smith’s .451 for the 1929 New York Lincoln Giants. They overtook the .440 by Hugh Duffy for the National League’s Boston team in 1894.
Gibson also became the career leader in slugging percentage (.718) and OPS (1.177), moving ahead of Babe Ruth (.690 and 1.164). “It’s a show of respect for
great players who performed in the Negro Leagues due to circumstances beyond their control and once those circumstances changed demonstrated that they were truly major leaguers,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told the AP.
A special committee on baseball records decided in 1969 to recognize six major leagues dating to 1876: the National (which launched in 1876), the American (1901), the American Association (18821891), Union Association (1884), Players’ League (1890) and Federal League (1914-1915). MLB announced in December 2020 that it would be “correcting a longtime oversight” and would add the Negro Leagues.
and, yes, he enters tournaments under the moniker of Happy Gilmore. One key difference between reality and art: Gilmore doesn’t play hockey and can’t even skate. He has, however, mastered the unique hockey-style tee shot used by Sandler in the movie. ”It never fails,” he says of fellow junior circuit

Owner of McShortagee’s Market
With the grand opening of McShortagee’s already underway it’s called by Bill “The Marketing Market” a deli with local memorabilia. McShortagee’s plans to work with local chefs and restaurants, to bring the many tastes of East Providence under one roof.
By L.A. Reilly
LA: One of the most important questions “What exactly will you be selling at McShortagee’s” from the deli to local honey to fresh produce and products from the Body Bakery?
WH: Boars Head is going to be our staple. I carry Willow tree for our salads and eventually we’ll be making our own salads. We want to start handing out free samples of our products. I have so many amazing cheeses. We have pre-made sandwiches and custom sandwiches made to order. We get our rolls for the sandwiches from Scialo’s Bakery. We will eventually carry soups and seafood. We carry Hood packaged ice cream. We have hot weenies that sell incredibly well. The grocery items that will be selling are to complement our deli.
Shop In RI 7
LA: You’re not a cook or a baker so what made you want to open a deli/market? Tell me how you came up with the idea of opening McShortagee’s market
WH: Growing up I always thought this would be a great “Arnold’s” from Happy Days. I always loved the idea of a community place to hang out with my friends. After I got out of the Telecom business I started growing microgreens. Then I looked into growing lettuce. I switched back to microgreens which was easier than lettuce, so I planned to move into here and was going to just do a vegetable place. I decided it would be great to carry sandwiches and deli meats and here we are…
LA: How did you come up with the name McShortagee’s and Riverside Randy ?
WH: I came up with the name because I’m a short Irish Portuguese person. When Facebook first started Punxutawney Phil the Groundhog was all over Facebook. I started posting “Don’t listen to Phil listen to Riverside Randy” I did it as a joke. I went and got a clam and put eyes on him. He is now part of our logo.
LA: You’re deli/market is more than that. It’s a 70s themed establishment with lots of memorabilia related to Riverside definitely a great way to show townie pride. Tell me about the different memorabilia you have
WH: We have a lot of Crescent Park stuff. Everyone went there. I have everything from a Go-Kart tire to tickets to a menu from their Shore Dinner Hall. Local Riverside football coach “Big Al”… I have his jacket and high school yearbook here. I have a candy case from the Gilbert Stewart movie theater, the “Bubblah” and I’m working a lot with local artists to carry their work including paintings, sculptures and welded pieces
LA: You also have local artists work on display and for sale as well as murals by Walter Canavan. Tell me about this and how someone can get their work displayed
WH: I grew up with Walter and he painted the murals on the walls above the vegetable area. This gave me the idea of the paintings. There are so many local artists. I have four different window frames so that’s four different artists. I have a hundred different artists that want to do paintings
in the windows. I reached out on Facebook to say I would be doing this and as soon as I did, every local artist sent me a private message. I also have room on the walls. I try to feature one artist at a time whose work is for sale. Just message me if you’re interested.
LA: I love the quote on your Facebook page someone asked you “You’re opening a food place and you’re not a cook” and you replied “Frank Lloyd Wright didn’t mix cement” going on to say just like a plant.. the right people in the right place and let them bloom. Tell me a little about your staff
WH: I’m on the 1st rung of the ladder here. I’m working for everyone in here. Whatever my staff is running out of, I go get. I clean the floors, I throw out the trash and wash the windows. I talk to my customers in line. I’m like the stock boy… I’ve run to Restaurant Depot at least three times a day
LA: Tell me about your unique idea for McShortagee’s. You have local businesses come in and sell their goods. Tell me about the different local businesses that would be coming in and what they would be selling.
WH: I reached out to Willow Tree, Cornerstone Bakery, and many other local providers, even local crafts persons.
LA: I love that you’re keeping everything local and local friends and family have helped you. Who would you like to thank for all their hard work and making sure McShortagee’s was ready to open?
WH: My father 1st and everyone in the community. None of this would have happened if it wasn’t for my father. I was thinking a little produce stand but my dad encouraged me to do more. The only reason this is here is because of my father. He motivated me to do it. He’s the first person in and last person out every day and he’s 77 years old.
LA: Lastly when you’re not at McShortagee’s what do you like to do for fun? Sticking with East Providence, what is your favorite restaurant?
WH: I would have to say Town Pizza. I grew up going there. I love watching the Sabin Point sunset, I play in a band and spend time with Paige Elizabeth… she’s my world

Resilient Rhode Island: Thriving through Tourism and Tradition this Summer
by Heather R. Singleton President/CEO, Rhode Island Hospitality Association
identity. They represent the enduring spirit of Rhode Island, providing not just meals but memories for residents and visitors alike.
As the interim president and CEO of the Rhode Island Hospitality Association, I am delighted to usher in another bustling summer season in our vibrant state. While the Washington Bridge reconstruction in Providence has posed traffic challenges throughout the year thus far, causing unexpected disruptions for commuters and local businesses, Rhode Island’s hospitality and tourism industry has proven its resilience, continuing to offer a diverse range of attractions in every corner of the state.
Rhode Island Commerce’s “All That” marketing campaign which debuted earlier this year has been pivotal in showcasing Rhode Island’s best offerings, from its pristine beaches and bustling towns to its renowned culinary scene. By collaborating with state organizations and government entities, this initiative aims to attract visitors from near and far, highlighting our state’s unique appeal. A SECRET LIMONCELLO RECIPE
It takes a few weeks for this limoncello recipe to be ready, but it’s worth it!
by Al Milukas
By: Al Milukas
Many years ago, we visited the Amalfi coast, and spent several nights on the beautiful island of Capri. On our last night, we dined at the historic Grand Hotel Quisisana, and our meal ended with a glass of the most delicious limoncello I ever had. I asked the waiter if it was possible to get the recipe of the limoncello, and he made a big deal about the recipe being a “secret.” Though disappointed, I understood, and I left Capri thinking that I would never taste it again.
slab of beef ribs crusted NY Strip at hand at my own on hand, use your www.livethelive.com.
Two weeks later, back at home, I was reading the latest issue of Conde Nast Traveler, and there in black and white, was the Quisisana limoncello recipe! WTF? After making many batches of this limoncello, I started experimenting with other citrus, and the most successful by far was with grapefruit. Now I make a batch of each: lemon and grapefruit. It’s important to use 100-proof vodka in this recipe. Most vodka is 80-proof, so you’ll need to go to a liquor store with a better selection to find it. Absolut makes a good one, as does Stoli.
Four ingredients, easy to make. The toughest part is waiting for it to mellow a bit.
• 4 lbs. lemons, zest only
• 2 750-ml bottles 100 proof vodka
• 5 1/2 cups sugar
• 6 cups filtered water
Mix well.

Peel the zest off all the lemons, trying not to get any of the white pith that could make the limoncello bitter. (There will always be some…that’s OK.) Place all the zest in the bottom of a one-gallon glass jar with a lid.
Pour the vodka on top of the lemon zest pieces, seal the jar, and keep it at room temperature for a week, swirling the jar around gently once a day.
On the sixth day, combine the sugar and water in a pot over medium-high heat, and stir until all the sugar completely dissolves. Remove it from the heat, cover it, and let it thoroughly cool to room temperature (overnight is best.)
On day seven, strain the lemon zest, pouring the infused vodka into a clean glass jar. Discard the lemon zest.
Pour the sugar/water mixture into the vodka and mix it well.
At this point, you can pour the finished product into bottles. I like to let it mellow for about a month before drinking. (It’s worth the wait…although nobody says you can’t take a few “cheating sips” every now and then!)

Hydration - A Crucial Part of All Exercise Regimens
As the summer sun begins to blaze, it’s time to pay extra attention to a crucial aspect of your fitness journey - hydration. While staying active and working towards your fitness goals, whether it’s building muscle, shedding fat, or improving endurance, hydration plays a pivotal role in achieving optimal performance and overall health.
Understanding Hydration’s Impact
Water is essential for virtually every bodily function, including regulating temperature, transporting nutrients, and removing waste. During exercise, the body loses water through sweat, which needs to be replenished to maintain proper hydration levels.
In the scorching summer heat, the risk of dehydration increases significantly. Sweating profusely in hot and humid conditions can rapidly deplete your body’s water stores, leading to symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and muscle cramps. Severe dehydration can even result in heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion or heatstroke, which can be life-threatening, if not promptly addressed.
Hydration and Fitness Performance
For those pursuing their fitness goals, whether it’s hitting new PRs in the gym, completing a long run, or mastering a challenging yoga pose, staying hydrated is non-negotiable. Dehydration can impair physical performance and hinder progress in several ways:
1. Decreased Endurance: Even mild dehydration can significantly reduce endurance levels during exercise. Studies have shown that as little as a 2% loss of body weight due to fluid loss can lead to decreased endurance performance.
2. Impaired Strength and Power: Dehydration can also impair strength and power output, making it harder to lift weights or perform explosive movements with the same intensity and efficiency.
3. Delayed Recovery: Proper hydration is essential for facilitating the recovery process, post-exercise.
Dehydration can prolong muscle soreness and delay the repair and rebuilding of muscle tissue, ultimately impeding progress and recovery between workouts.
Tips for Staying Hydrated
To ensure you stay adequately hydrated throughout the summer months and support your fitness journey, consider implementing the following tips:
1. Drink Plenty of Water: Aim to drink water consistently throughout the day, not just during exercise. Carry a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go to ensure easy access to hydration.
2. Hydrate Before, During, and After Exercise: Drink water before, during, and after your workouts to replenish fluids lost through sweat. For prolonged or intense exercise sessions, consider sports drinks that contain electrolytes to help replace those lost through sweating.
3. Monitor Urine Color: Keep an eye on the color of your urine as a simple indicator of hydration status. Pale yellow urine generally indicates adequate hydration, while darker urine may signal dehydration.
4. Pay Attention to Thirst: Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink water, as thirst is often a sign that your body is already somewhat dehydrated. Make a habit of sipping water regularly throughout the day.
5. Choose Hydrating Foods: Incorporate hydrating foods with high water content into your diet, such as fruits (i.e., watermelon, oranges) and vegetables (e.g., cucumbers, celery).
Staying hydrated is not only essential for overall health and well-being, but also critical for optimizing fitness performance and achieving your goals. Especially during the summer months when the heat is intense, prioritizing hydration should be a top priority for anyone on a fitness journey. By following these tips and staying mindful of your body’s hydration needs, you can ensure that you’re giving yourself the best chance to succeed and thrive, both in and out of the gym.

A GREAT WORKOUT, WITHOUT EQUIPMENT
By: Susan Gazerro
People 50 and older, especially those who have not really been dedicated to working out, will benefit from reading this article. Anyone can benefit from reading this, but people who have been active and working out for years, may still choose to use weights and machines. It is so important to keep moving our bodies, especially as we age. So, why don’t we? One reason is everything is readily available at our fingertips. We no longer have to drive, walk, or move, to do anything.
Another reason people aren’t moving is that they feel they are too old. That couldn’t be further from the truth. If your legs and arms are still mobile, you need to use them. We need to keep the blood flowing and the one muscle that requires cardio movement to stay healthy is the heart muscle! The good news is that you do not need equipment. You can exercise and get a great workout using your own body resistance. When I teach a stretch class, I do a stretch in which I tell people to take a wide stance. Face your palms forward and put them in front of your toes. Using your own resistance, imagine that you are lifting the entire world in
your hands, slowly bringing it over your head. As you are lifting it, think about how heavy it is. Your forearms should hurt, your shoulders should hurt, etc. When you have the world overhead, hold that position for a minute or two, then release it letting everything feel loose. It is amazing how you feel so light after letting it all go. When doing this stretch, you are engaging so many muscle groups, including your core. The same resistance can be applied to a cardio or strength workout.
An example of a great upper body toning workout using body resistance is standing tall with a slight bend in the knee to support your back. Stretch your arms out to your side and flex your hands. Flex so much that the tips of your fingers are pointing back at your face and the bottom of your hand is out before your fingertips. Now, pulse for at least 30 seconds. Do small circles forward and backwards for at least 30 seconds each, then repeat all three. You can change the size of the circles. Next, slowly bring the hands flexed above your head and let the fingertips meet. Use resistance so it is not an easy movement. You need to imagine
24 Shop In RI
something is preventing you from bringing your fingertips together. Now, slowly bring them down to shoulder height again, then double time that movement. If you do these types of exercises for two to three minutes, you will feel it, and will be giving your upper body a workout.
Pushups are another way to use your body resistance, and a great upper body and core workout. Start in a plank position. Start in a plank, so if and when you have to drop to your knees, your knees are far enough back. If your knees are too close to your chest, it defeats the purpose. The important thing when doing a push up is to bring your torso down, not your head. Bend the elbow and lower your torso. If your hands are aligned right under your shoulders, it is much more challenging. If this is too much, widen your hands. It is much easier to bring your torso down with wide hands. Try to do 12 to 15, three times.
You can also do a standing pushup. Stand facing a wall. Have your palms on the wall slightly above your shoulders. The further back your feet are, the more challenging it is. You can also do mountain climbers against the wall. Start in the same position as the standing push up. Keep your hands pressed against the wall, and alternate bringing your knees up to your chest. You can go as slow or as fast as you want. The faster you go, the more cardio you are doing. A great core exercise is to lie down facing the wall with the bottom of your souls pressed up against the wall. Have a slight bend in the knee. Hands over head or supporting your neck. Crunch up at least 15 times. Inhale back and exhale as you come up. When you elevate your feet, the crunch is more challenging.
Another core exercise is sitting up, slightly leaning back, feet raised. Interlock your fingers and twist bringing your elbow behind you. Twist to the right and twist to the left.
You can drop your feet, but lean back further with your torso.
These are all great exercises that can be done at home and without equipment. The important thing is, keep moving!

Dynamic Thoughts
By: Dr. Pete Dionisopoulos, PT, DPT
When dealing with pain and injuries, it’s important to have a positive mindset and outlook on finding a solution. It is much easier said than done, as chronic pains can be a mental drain and added stress.
Take this scenario for instance. You may have hurt your back in the past, bending over to pick something up. Fast forward months or even years later, and you watch someone do the same bend that caused you pain in the past. Just the sight of that could trigger a painful sensation in you, even though you didn’t do anything.
A better course of action would be to not completely avoid movements or positions that are problematic but rather work towards modifications and being able to do more without worsening symptoms. That does not mean things will be completely normal; it just means you are working towards tolerating more.
Avoidance of things can be stressful, and stress can amplify your chronic pain states. By allowing yourself to do things at tolerable levels, you can start to make your body more resilient and slowly work into positions that you never would have thought about doing.
By improving your capabilities, you may gain a more positive mindset and have a better mood overall. Improved moods are associated with a greater release of endorphins, which can decrease pain.

CONFIDENCE IS A MUSCLE YOU NEED TO EXERCISE DAILY: THE SYNERGY OF SELF DEFENSE, FITNESS,
AND MARTIAL ARTS
By Kevin Kearns | Burn With Kearns
Confidence isn’t an innate trait reserved for the lucky few; it’s a muscle that requires daily exercise and consistent practice. Much like physical muscles, confidence grows stronger with regular, deliberate effort. This is where the worlds of self-defense training, fitness, and martial arts converge, offering a powerful framework, to build and maintain selfassuredness. As a young man, at age 12, when my father died at 48 years young , my confidence was crushed, which was made worse by the constant bullying in my neighborhood. My martial arts training led me to my physical fitness training . They both worked hand to hand to build my confidence and my self esteem. Below, is where I expand on this.
The Foundation: Self-Defense Training
Self-defense training is more than learning how to fend off an attacker. It’s about developing situational awareness, honing quick decision-making skills, and
understanding how to use your body, effectively, under stress. Regular self-defense practice instills a profound sense of personal security. Knowing that you can protect yourself boosts your mental resilience and self-confidence.
Every session of self-defense training is a step toward mastering control over your environment and reactions. The skills you acquire make you feel prepared and empowered, which translates into greater confidence in daily life. Whether walking alone at night or navigating complex social situations, the assurance from self-defense training provides a stable foundation.
Building Strength: Physical Fitness
Physical fitness is another crucial element in the confidence-building equation. Regular exercise improves your physical health, which is intrinsically linked to mental well-being. When you feel strong and fit, your body image improves, and so does your self-esteem. Engaging in fitness activities releases endorphins, the body’s natural mood elevators, which combat stress, and foster a positive outlook. Consistency in fitness routines teaches discipline and perseverance—qualities that bolster confidence. Achieving fitness milestones, whether lifting heavier weights, running faster, or mastering a new yoga pose, reinforces the belief in your capabilities. This sense of accomplishment transfers to other areas of life, encouraging you to take on new challenges with confidence.

The Art of Mastery: Martial Arts
Martial arts combine the physical and mental aspects of self-defense and fitness, creating a holistic approach to confidence-building. Practicing martial arts cultivates focus, patience, and respect for oneself and others. It’s a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
Martial arts training emphasizes mastery of techniques, through repetition and practice. This process teaches that improvement is gradual and requires dedication. As you progress through the ranks, earning new belts or certifications, each achievement marks a tangible acknowledgment of your growth and hard work. This structured progression provides a clear path to building and sustaining confidence.
Moreover, martial arts fosters a strong sense of community. Training with others who share similar goals, creates a support network that encourages mutual growth and accountability. The camaraderie and encouragement from peers can significantly enhance your self-confidence.
Daily Practice: The Key to Sustained Confidence The synergy of self-defense, fitness, and martial arts forms a robust framework for building confidence, but the real magic lies in daily practice. Here’s how you can integrate these elements into your routine:
Set Clear Goals: Define what you want to achieve in each area. Whether it’s mastering a self-defense move, reaching a fitness milestone, or earning a new belt in martial arts, having clear goals keeps you focused and motivated.
Create a Routine: Dedicate time each day to practice. This could be a morning workout, an evening martial arts class, or a few minutes practicing self-defense techniques. Consistency is key.
Stay Committed: Building confidence is a journey, not a sprint. Stay committed to your practice, even on days when motivation wanes. Remember that every effort counts toward strengthening your confidence muscle.
Celebrate Progress: Acknowledge and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Recognizing your progress reinforces your confidence and encourages you to keep going.
Reflect and Adapt: Regularly reflect on your journey. Identify what’s working and what needs adjustment. Adapt your practice to keep it challenging and engaging.
Confidence, like any muscle, requires regular exercise and practice to grow and stay strong. Through the combined practices of self-defense training, fitness, and martial arts, you can build a resilient and self-assured mindset. Embrace the journey, stay consistent, and watch as your confidence flourishes, empowering you to face life’s challenges, with grace and strength. I have been training people for over three decades now, and myself, for four decades. I have seen in myself, at a young age, how it helped mold me on many right paths. I have also seen clients, from ages 8 to 88 , from athletes to the elderly, gain more mentally and emotionally, at times, when training and practicing. Practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes permanent!
Be relentless in pursuit of your dreams!

AccentCare Helps Families With Hospice Care
by Mark Berger
Hospice care is often misunderstood. As a new hospice provider serving Rhode Island, their team’s mission is to help people live in the midst of dying. This concept is often an under-discussed and societally under-represented area of hospice care. This advocacy to ensure access to high-quality care, while their patients live, is what drives clinicians to become specialized in working with those at the end of life.
AccentCare’s hospice team wants to help families understand what hospice care is and what it truly offers to patients and families. It’s care without curative intent, meaning, the patient no longer has curative options, or has chosen not to pursue treatment, due to side effects outweighing the benefits.
Hospice is a scary word for some, but for those who dedicate their lives to the hospice mission, it is anything but scary. At AccentCare, hospice means comfort. It means support. It means care. Most importantly, it means quality of life. These are the things that they focus on: the patient experience. End of life is not an easy topic to discuss, but it becomes very important when faced with a life-limiting illness.
Executive Director, Melanie Machado, who has been with AccentCare since November, is a certified Hospice and palliative care registered nurse, working in Hospice for 13 years. Melanie and her team at AccentCare’s Rhode Island office, lend support to hospice eligible clients and their families, during one of the most challenging times of life. “Facing our own mortality is difficult – we want to help ease the fear and burden that our patients and their chosen families feel,” explained Machado.
Here’s what you need to know, also known as, “Hospice 101.” Hospice care is typically for terminal patients, with a prognosis of six months or fewer to live. Hospice care provides resources, for both patients and their families, with support services like physicians, social workers, nurses, volunteers, and chaplains.
Although hospice care is not intended to prolong life, it is not “care” that hastens death, either. More than 90% of hospice care is paid for through the Medicare hospice benefit, though some health insurance policies also cover hospice care. Patients must get a referral for hospice care from their doctor. Hospice care can be provided anywhere the patient lives, whether that is in a house, assisted living apartment, skilled nursing home, dedicated hospice facility, or hospital.
Machado expressed, “We believe in the work we do and feel that everyone deserves the hospice experience, when dealing with a terminal illness. It’s a gift to receive hospice at the end of life, and we want to be able to give that gift to our fellow Rhode Islanders.”
AccentCare is a nationwide leader and trusted guide in post-acute health care, covering a broad continuum of services from personal, non-medical care to home health, palliative care, hospice, telehealth, and care management. Their innovative care models and strategic relationships with major health systems, physician groups, insurers, and value-based providers, give them a full understanding of how to deliver the best possible experience for patients and their families. Because of these distinct advantages, they can relentlessly reimagine and advance the standards of care in the communities.

How a Trust Could Help You Efficiently Transfer Wealth to Your Heirs
By: Carrie McPherson
Talking with clients about the legacy they wish to leave behind is an essential part of my job as a financial advisor. How do they want to share their wealth with loved ones and charities that matter to them? What values do they want to pass down and what financial goals do they want to support for their children and grandchildren? How can they transfer their assets in a tax-efficient and planful manner? These are some of the many questions we cover in the course of these conversations.
If you find yourself asking similar questions about your own legacy, it may be time to think about whether a trust would make sense for your situation. Read on for a primer on how trusts work and their key benefits.
What is a trust? In the simplest terms, trusts are legal entities that hold assets for the benefit of another. Trusts have three core components. A grantor is someone who creates and typically funds the trust. A beneficiary is someone who receives benefits from the trust assets, such as income, principal, or the right to use property (like a home). A trustee is someone who holds the legal title and manages the trust assets according to its terms. The trustee can be the grantor, another person considered qualified to handle trust administration, or an institution, such as a bank.
When the grantor sets up a trust, they specify:
• the intended purpose,
• named beneficiaries and trustees,
• provisions about when and what benefits/distributions each beneficiary will receive,
• the trustee’s duties, and
• when the trust will end.
Key trust attributes: Trusts might take effect while you’re living or upon your death. Here is a brief overview of the most common types of trusts:
Living trusts vs. testamentary trusts: Living trusts, as the name implies, are established and funded during the grantor’s lifetime. The assets in a living trust can remain available for the grantor’s use and benefit during their lifetime, and usually pass to beneficiaries only after the grantor’s passing. Similar to a will, a living trust provides the grantor broad discretion to specify how assets are distributed to the named beneficiaries. For example,
a beneficiary may need to reach a specified age before receiving assets from the trust. Because assets held within a living trust typically avoid probate upon the grantor’s passing, they may be transferred with less delay and expense. The trust’s assets and terms typically remain confidential among beneficiaries, as compared to the public disclosure usually involved with probate.
A testamentary trust is established at your death based on instructions laid out in your will. A trustee is identified who will manage assets on behalf of the trust’s beneficiaries. After the will goes through probate, designated assets are shifted into the trust. The grantor can specify in advance how trust assets should be managed and how they are to be distributed to beneficiaries.
Revocable trusts vs. Irrevocable trusts: Trusts can be revocable or irrevocable. Only trusts that are established during the grantor’s lifetime might remain fully revocable. This allows the grantor to alter the trust or even cancel it altogether if desired. While that flexibility can be beneficial, there are no immediate tax advantages and no creditor protection for assets held in the trust.
An irrevocable trust typically limits the grantor from making any meaningful changes to the trust. When established, the grantor often gives up ownership and control of the assets contributed to the trust. While this might involve making a taxable gift, this type of trust can be potentially advantageous from a tax perspective and for protecting assets from creditors. Note that testamentary trusts are generally irrevocable and cannot be changed except in very limited circumstances, such as a court amendment.
Consider trusts in your planning process
Keep in mind that trusts are not just for those with significant wealth. Anybody seeking to preserve assets for children or grandchildren, avoid the expense and delay of probate, maintain greater privacy about their estate or protect assets from creditors may want to explore the advantages trusts can offer. Trusts are complex and there are fees associated with setting them up. Consult an experienced financial advisor and an estate attorney to review your situation and consider whether a trust makes sense for your estate plan.

Corey Phinney of Creative Phinn Consulting mixes celebrities with memorable events.
By Mark Berger
When the seasons change, what remains constant are people looking to plan something exciting. That often pertains to events ranging from small, private functions to large corporate events with hundreds of attendees. Regardless of its scope or theme, those who are charged with putting such events together also plan for them to operate smoothly. They want everyone attending to remember the great time they enjoyed.
A company with locations in Cumberland and Boston strives to create the best party or event for their clients. That is the emphasis for Creative Phinn Consulting and its Owner, Corey Phinney. His job is putting together parties and other soirees designed to enlighten, entertain, and become enviable. He said while his goal is to be all-encompassing, his passion comes from helping others.
“I look to companies that are looking to do something outside the box,” Corey said. “We work to develop the best plans and consider how our services can liven up their event or function. What we do has a strong connection with what the clients seek. Then, we work to exceed their expectations.”

Corey Phinney
Phinney has been in the catering and conference events industry for more than two decades. He has connections to celebrities from cousins who live on the West Coast and work in the entertainment business. That provides another layer of service he can provide for his clients.
Some celebrities that Corey may be able to call upon include athletes, musicians, and actors/actresses. They work with these groups to enhance the experience for a given event. He said the themes vary from ma “wow” factor to an inspirational one.
“We also worked with Gronk (Former Patriots Tight End Rob Gronkowski) for some various events,” he continued. “Although he may come across as a ‘dumb jock’, Gronk is actually very smart. I also worked with (Rapper) Macklemore on promoting a show in Rhode Island.”
Phinney got the urge to enter this line of work from an early age. His first job was working at Chuck E. Cheese as “The Rat”. From there, he worked for McDonald’s planning and hosting birthday parties. That led to him working in various businesses for some time. Many of the events were in the Boston-to-Braintree (Massachusetts) region. In that time, he would build up sales teams once the project became finalized to carry out the logistics.
During that period, he worked on such festivities as bachelor parties, birthdays, and school events. He noted that many people wanted to know what types of events could be done for a bachelor party, for example. He once oversaw an event for an electrical company that held 400 guests.
He has also done private tours for clients.
“I had a client travel in from Korea. It was a group from Tour Hello USA, who hired an interpreter to take them to me. The group wanted to learn more about how a karting facility runs that held fun things to do, such as laser tag, karting, and ax throwing. We were able to give them a tour and let them try out some activities with a Q&A afterwards,” Phinney said.
Phinney noted event venues such as golf courses, banquet halls, wedding facilities and activity centers like bowling alleys and golfing attractions are perfect places that want to hold events. They can offer special pricing and amenities to get people to come.
As for his company, Corey has several packages that are designed to get the most service for their money. The deals include various levels and amenities. You may visit his website at www.CreativePhinnConsult. com to learn more about these and other details.
At Creative Phinn Consulting, they are passionate about turning event visions into reality. Let them handle the logistics, negotiations, and content creation while the hosts focus on enjoying a flawless and memorable event. Get in touch with them today, and let’s embark on a journey to create unforgettable experiences together!
Not only do they excel in finding venues, but they also generate leads for event entertainment venues. The company’s comprehensive approach to event planning means that they not only cater to those seeking venues but also assist venue owners in attracting the right clients for their spaces.

Strategies to Protect Your Goals from Consistent Inflation
By: Edward Pontarelli Jr.
If you’re like most investors, you’ve noticed the impact of higher inflation in recent years – whether at the gas pump or the grocery store. American investors are experiencing the effects of prolonged inflation for the first time since the early 1980s. As a result, many are concerned about how inflation levels will impact their ability to reach their longterm financial goals. While it may not be possible to avoid the effects of inflation altogether, there are several strategies investors can utilize to mitigate the impact of inflation on their financial plan. Here are three investment considerations that may help address inflation concerns and better prepare your goals for long-term success.
1 – Keep your money invested
When the inflation rate soared in 2022, stock and bond markets declined. Some investors responded by pulling money out of the market. This can be counterproductive as investors too often miss much of a market’s recovery gain before they put their money back to work. For example, the U.S. stock market (as measured by the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index, an unmanaged index of stocks often used as a benchmark of market performance), declined 25% between January and October 2022. But by the end of 2023, the S&P 500 regained nearly all of the ground lost in the bear market. 1
It is normal for markets to go through ups and downs. Investors that stay the course and keep their money invested commonly see their investments make up gains that were lost in a sudden downturn. While it may be tempting to remove yourself from the market during volatile periods, it could be helpful to stay invested at a level that reflects your risk tolerance.
2 – If time is on your side, take advantage of stocks
Over time, stocks have historically outpaced inflation, an important consideration as you try to build wealth to achieve your ultimate financial goals with more confidence. This doesn’t mean that year-in, year-out, stocks will keep you ahead of inflation. 2022 is a good example of a year when stocks declined as inflation rose. But if you have time to let your money work for you, stocks have historically outpaced the rise in living costs. According to data collected since 1871, stocks have grown faster than inflation for holding periods of 20 years or more. 2
Investors who can ride the highs and lows of markets are often better suited to keep up, if not pass, the rate of inflation.
3 – For short-term money, seek higher yields
You may have money set aside for short-term needs, such as your emergency fund or to cover upcoming expenses. In these times of elevated inflation, you’ll want to find ways to earn more competitive yields on your short-term savings. Search out options such as money market funds, CDs, short-term U.S. Treasury securities and other savings vehicles that offer yields that may keep pace with inflation. Utilizing these tools may allow you to stay more liquid with your investments while hedging against the impacts of inflation.
Whether an economic cycle brings conventional or elevated inflation it should be considered as a factor of your long-term financial plan. A financial advisor can help develop a comprehensive strategy that addresses the inflation environment today and over the long term.

Fixed Income There are risks associated with fixed-income investments, including credit risk, interest rate risk, and prepayment and extension risk. In general, bond prices rise when interest rates fall and vice versa. This effect is usually more pronounced for longer term securities. Stock Investment Stock investments involve risk, including loss of principal. High-quality stocks may be appropriate for some investment strategies. Ensure that your investment objectives, time horizon and risk tolerance are aligned with investing in stocks, as they can lose value. Alternative Investment Alternative investments involve substantial risks and may be more volatile than traditional investments, making them more appropriate for investors with an above-average tolerance for risk. Options Options involve risk and are not appropriate for all investors. Before entering into any options transaction, clients must receive the document entitled Characteristics and Risks of Standardized Options. Hedge Funds An investment in a private fund involves a substantially more complicated set of risk factors than traditional investments in stocks or bonds, including the risks of using derivatives, leverage and short sales, which can magnify potential losses or gains. Restrictions exist on the ability to redeem units in a hedge fund. Private funds are speculative and involve a high degree of risk. What Is the Purpose of Lattice?
A number of years ago, I was having a conversation with a client. They were excitedly telling me a story of how on the previous day, they were looking for a paint product that they knew was around their home, but they just could not figure out where they had left it.
Their search took them to the shed in their backyard, where upon opening the shed door, they discovered - to their heart-dropping surprise - a napping coyote!
Although beyond startled, the client had enough sense about them to softly close the door and quietly tiptoe backward, until they were comfortable that they were far enough away, and were able to quickly hurry into their home.
While not as dramatic, it would not be unusual for us to find animals taking shelter in various areas around our homes, particularly under porches, decks, etc.
One way that this can be prevented is by utilizing lattice to – in a nice-looking way – close off these areas, which would otherwise be tempting for many wild animals that are looking for a place to hang out and set up shop.
Though lattice would not keep out mice and tinier creatures, which may be able to fit through their openings, it certainly can be effective in keeping out rats, squirrels, raccoons, groundhogs, and yes – coyotes!
Lattice is a type of framework made of wood, metal, or plastic that is often used around people’s homes for various purposes – not just for keeping animals out from where it is preferred they not be! It’s made up of crisscrossed strips or bars, creating a pattern, with open spaces in between.
Lattice is fairly easy to find for purchase at any lumberyard, neighborhood hardware store, big box hardware store, many department stores, or plenty of places online.
One common use of lattice around homes is as a decorative element. It can be attached to fences, decks,
or porches to add a touch of style and charm. Lattice panels come in different designs, such as diamond, square, or oval patterns, allowing homeowners to choose one that matches their aesthetic preferences.
Another popular use of lattice is for privacy and screening. By installing lattice panels around a patio or deck, homeowners can create a sense of seclusion, without completely blocking off the area. Vines or climbing plants can be trained to grow on the lattice, providing additional privacy, while also enhancing the visual appeal of the space.
Lattice can also serve as a support structure for climbing plants and vines in gardens. By attaching lattice panels to walls or fences, homeowners can create vertical gardens, allowing plants to grow upwards, and save space. This is particularly useful for small yards or areas, with limited ground space for gardening.
Lattice is a versatile and often practical addition to homes, offering functional benefits, as well as those that are cosmetically pleasing - and it can be super for enhancing privacy!
Whether it’s used for keeping out coyotes, improving outdoor aesthetics, creating privacy, or supporting climbing plants, lattice is a popular choice for homeowners looking to beautify and improve their outdoor spaces.

Meet The Dream Team: Daryll Issa
Each month, Shop in RI Magazine profiles one member of “The Dream Team,” a weekly networking group that meets in Smithfield. This month, we feature Daryll Issa of Newport Electric Construction Corp. (NEC) Solar in Bristol.
In addition to providing the best solar and battery backup options available for either your home, business, or farm, Daryll employs a “whole house” approach. He inspects the entire property, from top to bottom, to identify other energy-saving, low cost/ no cost opportunities, available through Rhode Island Energy, such as heating/hot water tank replacement, pool pumps/ heaters, attic/basement weatherization work, mini split heat pumps, and lighting upgrades.
“Many consumers assume that they are taking on another bill when they go solar, which is simply not true,” he said. “You’re basically taking a monthly electricity bill, that is subject to future increases/price gouging, for energy that is generated by fossil fuels, and replacing it with a monthly solar payment that is fixed. You start out ahead and you never look back. The ‘meat and potatoes’ savings of going solar occurs when the system is paid for after the 10- or 15-year term, and you no longer have an electricity bill, and/or a solar payment!
Issa said that he has a particular goal in mind when meeting potential clients.
“My goal is to identify either a low-cost or no-cost ways to reduce your electric bill before modeling your home or business for solar,” he said.
Issa is a veteran of the US Army, and a BPI certified energy auditor, with four certifications in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and energy storage. He resides on Common Fence Point in Portsmouth, RI, with family and the family dog, Zeus. Daryll is an avid fisherman and a “stuffie” connoisseur.
To date, NEC Solar has completed over 4,000 solar installations. NEC Solar offers a more personalized service for its residential and commercial customers. They are one of a handful of local solar companies that can offer a variety of residential and commercial electrical contracting services, such as mini split heat pump installation, panel upgrades, and battery storage options.
“The bottom line: there is no added value to your home and/or financial situation when you continue to “rent” your electricity from the utility companies. Furthermore, solar is the only type of home improvement that adds 100% equity into your home, without the assessed tax value,” Daryll explained.
Daryll may be reached directly by calling 401-6026578, or via email, at daryll@nec-solar.com.
As for joining The Dream Team, Daryll said that having the ability to network with like-minded professionals that he knows and trusts, makes it well worth the onehour drive to weekly meetings in Smithfield. He also enjoys the camaraderie that involves the group, and the possibilities that ensue.
“The Dream Team” currently has 26 members and is growing. They meet every Wednesday morning, from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM, at the Home2Suites Hilton on Douglas Pike (Rte. 7), in Smithfield, across from Laura’s Bar and Grill. The group is looking to grow its team and is interested in meeting professionals from various businesses, looking to connect and help each other grow through referral business. The Dream Team is all about “Friends helping Friends.”
Further information about the group may be found by contacting either President Rocco Elgar at 401265-0857 or at therockhbi@msn.com, or Vice President Tim Richard at 401-766-4200 or at tim@ estenandrichardinsurance.com

AJT Supplies Unveils New, One-of-a-Kind Party Shop
by Mark Berger
The warmer weather means more outdoor activities. People will be planning for various occasions, such as graduations, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or other celebrations. What if someone wanted to throw a unique, unforgettable party that guests will never forget? AJT Supplies believes they have the perfect answer: Foam Parties!
AJT Supplies, an enthusiast of all things fun and exciting, recently opened its mobile “one-stop party shop.”
Albert J. Todesca, III, is the driving force behind this endeavor. He has been in business for two decades, but always sees a wonderful opportunity for bringing smiles to people’s faces, while providing endless memories.
“This was something that I really wanted to do,” Albert said, when asked about his latest project. “There are two or three such places doing this in Massachusetts, and one more in Connecticut. However, there wasn’t anyone providing this type of entertainment in Rhode Island. My mission, here, is introducing a new way to be fun, entertaining, and different.”
Albert recalled how his new start-up company came to fruition, all of which happened within the last few years. Around the time when Covid-19 raged, Todesca purchased six bounce houses from a vendor, who had no further use for them. Albert added more inflatables to his collection, and now boasts more than 60 bounce houses.
They offer a variety of products, from inflatables to concession machines, to make any event shine. Not only do they bring the fun to you, but they also set up and break down everything needed for your event. It’s less stressful for you!
“Foam Parties” are exactly what they sound like. Kids and adults can run around a huge pile of foam, with ageappropriate music coming from a DJ that is supplied by the company. It takes roughly 20-30 minutes for them to
set up the ultimate party experience! AJT uses a topof-the-line foam cannon that shoots over six-feet high, and can fill half a tennis court in size. Whether you rent their “Gaga Pit,” as your foam zone, your driveway, or your backyard, AJT has you covered. They can accommodate any size party or occasion.
The foam they use is non-toxic, pet friendly, nonirritating, and doesn’t ruin the grass—making this a fun activity for all.
For more excitement, they bring beach balls and other goodies, to elevate the party experience.
“I attended ‘Foam Universe 2024,’ which was a three-day training session about hosting these events,” Albert said. “There were face painters, balloon professionals and others who were making their living doing these things. I learned a lot from everyone there. Most importantly, I could foresee foam parties becoming huge in Rhode Island, because there isn’t anything else like this around here.”
It was then that Todesca realized he had something
56 Shop In RI
56 Shop In RI
new and different to offer Rhode Islanders, and early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
“Who wouldn’t want to feel like a kid again?” he asked. “We know that once this idea gets out there, other groups, organizations, and nonprofit groups, are going to want to follow suit. We also give back to charities, such as donating thousands of dollars to Boston Children’s Hospital, and other worthy causes. We want to make our mark count throughout the communities.”
For even more fun, event organizers can add other amenities to their event, such as a dunk tank or a water slide. For those who feel lucky, they can try their luck by renting their new claw machine that is filled with stuffed animals and other giveaways.
In addition to their foam parties, AJT Supplies has inflatables available for rent. People can choose from various types, ranging from a traditional bounce house, to combos and waterslides. There are enough options available for any occasion or any age.
Their website has several party packages listed, as well as availability. For anyone looking to make a fun statement, they may bundle the foam party or bouncy house with one of the other concession rentals, at a great deal.
With schools having end-of-the-year events, such as field days, graduation parties and other activities being planned, why not do something different with them? Albert said that the day would be something the students and faculty would not forget.
Foam Parties can also be a great team-building event for businesses who seek a new and exciting opportunity to impress their clients. He added that summer camps, campgrounds, gender reveals, and other kid-oriented organizations, would be great partners. They provide daily or weekend rental rates and request a one-day notice. They offer free pick up and drop off services.
They are currently scheduling parties throughout northern Rhode Island, and as far south as Warwick and Cranston, through their website.
For more questions about AJT Supplies and their upcoming events, please visit their website at: www.AJTBounce.com.

“RAMP”ING UP
By Mark Berger
Tina Guenette of RAMP, champions accessibility, statewide and beyond.
Everyone loves a comeback story. Anyone who overcomes obstacles to do some good in other people’s lives can be seen as a trailblazer or something very similar. These people see a problem and work tirelessly to either improve or outright solve the issues before them. They are also at the forefront of change.
Such is the case of Tina Guenette. She survived multiple cancer diagnoses, heart attacks, and strokes, only to become a wheelchair user ten years ago, due to complications stemming from minor surgery. Five years ago, Tina founded Real Access Motivates Change (RAMP) to educate and advocate the public about accessibility and inclusion. She works with local, state, and federal officials on these topics, so that more people are able to participate in events that may come as second nature to most other people.
Tina’s situation opened her eyes to the many people who already face challenges getting from place to place.
“When I started going to events, I discovered that I couldn’t get into them,” she said. “There would be stairs or other barriers that would prevent me from entering. Add those who use crutches, canes, and wheelchairs, and the number of people who cannot access a building rises to 55 percent. That is a large part of the population that is not being served,” she continued.
“If businesses want to make more money, then they need to open their minds toward including more people who can visit,” Tina added.
Tina began RAMP five years ago, after seeing first-hand what many others like her experience daily. Her mission is showing the ways access can be improved positively. She wants to make it easier for those with accessibility issues to gain entry into establishments. While she’s happy with the progress that has happened, she is well aware that there is more work to be done.
For example, the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) was written 34 years ago. Since its inception, there have been limited changes to the statute to keep up with the advances in technology, and life in general. Most people see improvement with bathrooms and front doors. However, even with that, it still can be a barrier toward complete access.
“If the entrance has even one step, if the doors open up the wrong way, or if going to festivals where the event tables are placed too close, and/or a food truck is parked in the wrong place, then those facilities become inaccessible,” Tina said. “A simple change in layout can make all the difference.”
With RAMP, Tina will go into a place and roll around, to point out areas that could be changed. There is no charge for this service,
60 Shop In RI
and the company or establishment involved can take the necessary steps to becoming inclusive to all. Another thing she would love to see more often is people with challenges having the ability to use the front door. She said that some places where she goes to speak have accessible entrances to the back or sides of the building. She believes everyone, regardless of their situation, should be able enter and exit through the same doors. Finally, when she speaks at various events, having the stage with ramps, instead of stairs, serves their needs.
Tina also made note that when it comes to purchasing a home, those with accessibility issues face certain other battles. Only a fraction of the available homes are equipped with accessibility compliance. She said those numbers need to change.
“A person who does not have accessibility issues can purchase any home. However, someone with mobility challenges cannot,” she explained. “There are grants for home modification of up to $4,500 to age-in-place, up to a $5,000 Work Ability Grant, and up to $15,000 in tax breaks, annually, for businesses to continue the process. These are geared toward businesses to accept more people. That would potentially raise their bottom line by allowing more people inside.”
In 2024, so far, RAMP is sponsoring two events. The first one occurred on May 24, at the Steelyard in Providence, with its RAMP Business Sticker Initiative. This was a significant milestone in their mission to promote accessibility and inclusion in Rhode Island. This innovative initiative was designed to recognize and support businesses that have achieved mobility aid accessibility through the roll-through by RAMP. Their goal was to empower every business to become fully accessible, utilizing the Work Ability Grant to overcome any obstacles.
“The RAMP Business Sticker Initiative was a badge of honor, symbolizing a commitment to inclusivity, and welcoming all customers, regardless of abilities. Participating businesses were listed on our website, and in the future, there will be a dedicated app, making it easy for visitors to find accessible venues across Rhode Island,” Tina explained.
Their other event called, “Accessibility is Beautiful,” will take place on August 24, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, at the Steelyard, 27 Sims Ave., in Providence.
Their annual free outdoor festival celebrates diversity and inclusion, so they can all be a part of the IDEA – Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility!
To date, more than 1,500 people have registered for the event.
Anyone interested in attending this free event may do so by visiting their website at: www.eventbrite.com/e/accessibility-is-beautiful2024-tickets-798893410697.
RAMP breaks down barriers and proves that we are all the same—we just need proper accessibility. With the help of people with disabilities, family members, and allies, RAMP works toward educating people about and advocating for inclusion in schools, business, and the community-at-large.
RAMP is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, and 100 percent volunteer organization. They rely on donations and grants to continue their work.
Tina was appointed to the Governor’s Commission on Disability, and voted in as vice chairwoman in 2018. She was later appointed to the Commission of Aging in Rhode Island. In 2023, Tina was appointed by President Joseph Biden to the United States Access Board.
People can get involved by volunteering their time or by donating to the cause by contacting Tina at 401-524-6256, or emailing her at RAMPtina@ yahoo.com.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THIS ON YOUR OWN.
A hot pan left unattended on the stove started a fire that not only destroyed the kitchen pictured above, but also spread toxic smoke, sticky soot, and other residues throughout every room in the house. A furnace puffback at another property belched smoke and soot throughout the home via its air duct system, coating walls, ceilings, floors — just about everything inside — with oily, black grime.
Almost as bad as the flames from a fire, smoke, soot, and other toxic residue left behind by these types of property disasters need to be cleaned away quickly before even more damaging effects can develop.
Eliminating smoke and soot residue is one of the most difficult aspects of disaster restoration and to safely minimize further damage, these substances must be strictly handled by specially trained restoration professionals, like Rhode Island Restoration.
Expertly trained in soot and smoke removal as well as water damage and full building reconstruction and repair, both homes were quickly and thoroughly cleaned and then fully restored to their pre-disaster conditions within weeks — much to the relief of the grateful homeowners. I don’t know a single person who does not want to look their best, while being the healthiest they can possibly be, and that absolutely includes myself. When we get to a certain age, however, it’s not always a given that maintaining either will be an easy feat.
As we age, the foods we eat can greatly affect our fitness, appearance, quality of life, and disease risk.
Our bodies rely on various nutrients to support the natural aging process. The foods we eat can play a role in the health of our skin, including in how our skin changes as we get older. Some nutrients may help slow signs of aging, such as by promoting healthy skin.
It’s important to note that eating specific foods isn’t going to make us look immediately noticeably younger, and that nutrition is only one aspect of aging well.
Still, adding nutrient-dense foods to our diets, can help us look and feel our very best, as the years pass us by.
In particular, foods that are high in protein, healthy fats, and antioxidants, are linked to the most skin benefits.
Along with eating a nutritious diet full of whole, plantbased foods, consider protecting your skin with other habits, such as wearing sunscreen, avoiding smoking, staying physically active, and using appropriate skin care products.
These anti-aging foods, in particular, are among the long list of foods that will help us all to eat our way to a longer life expectancy, and to age with grace. By adding these delicious foods into our daily diets, we could also be decreasing our risk for illnesses and age-related problems.
If we actually pick just one or two to add each week, that in itself, will be of great benefit to our overall health.
Avocados have to be one of the most delicious foods out there. Mix up a little guacamole or slice a few up on your salad for an anti-aging treat. Avocados are one of the best foods around for anti-aging and longevity. Why? First of all, they are delicious. But more importantly, avocados are filled with healthy fats and other nutrients to help your body live longer and work better.
Walnuts are the perfect snack for anti-aging. They give you protein and omega-3s in a safe, convenient form. Eat a handful every day. Walnuts are a great anti-aging food because of the amount of omega3s in just a handful. These omega-3 fatty acids are real longevity tools. They fight off heart disease by improving your HDL cholesterol level. Make walnuts part of your day, every day.
Berries For an anti-aging dessert, have a bowl full of sweet berries. Pack in those vitamins and avoid sugary alternatives. Berries are a great source of antioxidants and other nutrients. Eat more strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries to help

with anti-aging and longevity.
Not only do berries fight free radicals that cause damage to your body, they also provide other essential nutrients.
Spinach is super hydrating and packed with antioxidants, and it’s considered a superfood that has a whole host of health benefits that include oxidative stress, eye health, and even cancer prevention.
It’s also rich in vitamins A, C, E, and K; magnesium; iron, and lutein. This versatile leafy green’s high vitamin C content supports collagen production to keep skin firm and smooth. But that’s not all. The vitamin A it provides may play a role in hair health, while vitamin K has been shown to have health benefits.
Sweet Potatoes The orange color of the sweet potato comes from an antioxidant called betacarotene which is converted to vitamin A, which may help restore skin elasticity and promote skin cell turnover.
Though it’s considered a starchy vegetable, this delicious root vegetable is also full of vitamins C and E — both of which may protect our skin.
Dark Chocolate Dessert lovers rejoice! It is believed that dark chocolate may increase the blood flow and circulation in the skin, which may increase the moisture in the skin. This can reduce the formation and appearance of wrinkles. This food is also high in antioxidants, and may also aid in reducing inflammation levels in the body. Dark chocolate can be enjoyed by itself, or with nuts, such as dark chocolate almonds.
Flaxseeds Hydration is key to helping to ward off wrinkles and keep your skin looking supple and youthful. One study found that participants who supplemented their diets with flaxseed oil experienced a 39% increase in skin hydration after a period of 12 weeks. An improvement in skin roughness and smoothness was also observed from eating this anti-aging food.
Legumes Whether they are lentils, chickpeas, split peas, or black, kidney, navy, or pinto beans, legumes are packed with nutrients that support mental health, such as folate, calcium, copper, magnesium, iron, and zinc. The folate in beans protects against a memorydestroying compound called homocysteine. The antioxidant phytonutrients in legumes, such as
saponins and phytosterols, may help protect against wrinkles and, per Somer, can also help lower cancer and heart disease risk. Try legumes in chili, bean burritos, or split pea soup.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil This delicious oil is rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fatty acids, which can help to improve the health of our hearts. Use olive as a salad dressing, mixed with balsamic dressing, or drizzle it over vegetables and roast them in the oven for additional heart-healthy benefits. You can also apply it topically for some extra moisturizing. Olive has been linked to potentially helping to ward off skin cancer.
Carrots are not only good for your eyes, but are also amazing for smooth skin. Carotenoids, found in carrots, are your protection from everyday pollutants, and can help to ward off wrinkles.
Fatty Fish is a highly nutritious food that can promote healthy skin.
Its long-chain omega-3 fats are beneficial against heart disease, inflammation, and many other issues.
Furthermore, research has shown that omega-3 fatty acids are linked to a strong skin barrier and may help decrease inflammation that damages the skin).
Salmon & Tuna are two of the most popular types of fatty fish, and have additional aspects that may help support your skin’s health.
Salmon contains a carotenoid antioxidant called astaxanthin, which is responsible for its pink hue.
Plus, salmon and other fatty fish, such as tuna, are high in protein, which is important to eat so your body can produce collagen and elastin. These two molecules are responsible for skin’s strength, plumpness, and elasticity. Eating protein also promotes wound healing.
Finally, fish is high in selenium. This mineral and antioxidant plays a role in DNA synthesis and repair, and may help reduce and prevent skin damage from UV light. Having adequate levels in the body may also reduce the severity of skin diseases like psoriasis.
So, I think it’s clear that by consuming any of these healthy foods, or by choosing any of the many others that are available, we are doing what necessary to win life’s race by aging with grace!

Recognizes its Staff, Service
By Mark Berger
Since opening several years ago, Toyota of Smithfield has used its knowledge and experience to provide their customers with the best service. From the moment people enter, they are treated with the utmost care and respect. There is not the “hard sell” that often happens at other dealerships. Their ultimate goal is providing exceptional customer service in sales, parts, and maintenance.
General Manager John Durrani said everyone who visits will leave impressed with the dealership’s overall customer commitment.
“Our staff is trained to help and provide the best services possible,” he said. “We take immense pride in giving everyone the same level of care— regardless of their reasons for visiting. This is not lip service—employees want to be here and make every effort to ensure our customers enjoy their experience.”
Located on George Washington Highway (Rte. 116) on the Smithfield/Lincoln line, Toyota of Smithfield has been recognized with numerous awards and promotions during the past few months.
Among the Toyota of Smithfield employees who were promoted included: Erica Miller, who went from Service Advisor to Assistant Service Manager,
Raphael Estrada, a former Sales Associate is now Business Manager, Nadine Lovelace recently became the new Customer Service Manager.
Durrani said the staff not only grew because of the hard work, but they also saw the additional need for help.
“We hired three new technicians and three new advisors to address the need to lower service wait times,” he said. “That is the number one complaint from customers in shops all across the country. This is a customer service team that dedicates itself to the Dealership’s Peace of Mind Purchase Process.”
Not only have they expanded their staff, Toyota of Smithfield also received numerous awards for their work. They earned the 2023 ASE Certified Mechanics as well as other certifications.
The dealership currently has new and certified, pre-owned vehicles available to own.
Regardless of what type of car or truck you are searching for, Toyota of Smithfield has the experience to make purchasing a car simple.
Durrani hopes anyone looking for their next vehicle should work with their award-winning Sales Department to discover dealer incentives.
“Anyone who trades in either their used or certified, pre-owned cars, will receive an additional $1,000 over its book value,” he said. “There won’t be a better time for anyone to trade in their cars. Your trade is worth more than it ever has before, and it’s worth more now than it’s ever going to be worth.”

For those who already possess either a car and/or truck, customers should visit their award-winning Service Department to keep their them running smoothly. Their highly-trained staff are adept at diagnosing the small problems before they become major problems.
With still lower-than-normal inventory, Durrani said they are searching all available used cars throughout Southern New England and beyond. He said there are various incentives designed to persuade anyone from trading in their older car for into a newer, more fuel- efficient and technicallysavvy model.
“We are appealing to the public to come in with their used vehicles. Right now, we do not have available inventory to fulfill orders,” Durrani said.
The dealership asks anyone who has additional certified, pre-owned vehicles to consider trading it in to them. Toyota of Smithfield will provide 115% of the book value for any incoming used cars. It does not matter if customers decline to purchase a car from their lot.
“We will buy your trade-in, even if you decide not to purchase one from us,” he added.
The dealership holds a monthly private sale. This month’s event is scheduled for Friday, June 28, and Saturday, June 29, from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM, by appointment only. Attendees will have access to their inventory. Managers will be there to answer questions and offer additional incentives.
The Dealership’s Peace of Mind Purchase Process means no hassles over pricing, trade-in values, cash back and rebate incentives offered up front and the best available leasing and financing terms up front. Durrani said this is just part of the all-around, customer-driven experience he implemented to ensure the process does not get bogged down in miscommunication.
