The restaurant employs a dozen people and prides itself on serving dishes with a nod to the “Old Country.” Diners can feast on several signature dishes, including their bone-in veal chops that are so big that they take up the entire plate, their linguini and clams and their Italian stuffed artichokes. Patrons can also dive into their fresh fish dishes, chicken or veal parmigiana with pasta, or perhaps for dessert, their amazingly delicious homemade cannolis.

Perhaps their calling card is their "World Famous Expresso Martinis,” among other specialty cocktails that are infused with rosemary, ginger and other herbs to give them an authentic flair and taste.

Palmisano said that his goal for operating a successful restaurant is simple: “I want people to feel like they are eating at my house.”

He noted about how meals are cultivated back in Italy. “It starts with visiting the local butcher shop for the freshest meat, then walking to the garden to select the vegetables, and maybe to the local store to pick up a bottle of wine. Palmisano said that the restaurant strives to maintain this tradition because “farm to table” offers the best quality and flavors for their customers.

“I hope that when customers visit Anthony’s Italian Cuisine, they enjoy a little piece of Italy with every made-to-order dish,” he said.

The restaurant is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM, and Sunday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Flying This Summer? Cut TSA Lines for Free

A young girl went overboard on a Disney cruise returning to Florida from the Bahamas, prompting her father to jump in after her. It was a terrifying moment that ended in cheers as rescue crews helped both father and daughter from the water. Footage shared on TikTok showed two heads bobbing in the ocean before the father lifted the girl into a rescue boat, then climbed in himself. “He jumped in to save his child ... That man is a hero,” one passenger was recorded saying in other footage, per CBS News. Another wondered aloud, “How did he survive that long?”

Already dreading long security lines for your next flight? There’ve long been services that allow you to cut those lines, but you’ve got to open your wallet and do a good amount of prep work for them. Now, an option for those short on funds and time: the Reserve service by Clear, a free program that allows customers to book a spot ahead of time that sends them to the front of the line at TSA checkpoints.

It’s unclear how the child went overboard on the Disney Dream, which reportedly has plexiglass safety barriers on its decks. She reportedly fell from Deck 4, which includes a walking track, per USA Today. A Disney Cruise Line rep applauded the crew’s “exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes,” adding “this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols.” The ship was returning to Florida on the final leg of a four-day cruise to the Bahamas.

Delta is No. 1

The Clear site explains how the process works: In advance of your flight (how long in advance depends on the airport), you’d simply log on to make a reservation for the time you’d like to pass through security. You’ll receive a QR code that, on the day of your flight, you’ll show to a staffer in the Reserve lane near the TSA checkpoint. The service isn’t available at every airport (there are about 20 in the US, Canada, and Europe currently listed) and even at those airports, the service may be limited to certain areas. A company rep said they’re working on adding more airports into the mix.

Delta Air Lines retained its spot atop the annual ranking of US airlines by The Points Guy. The ranking takes into account factors such as reliability, cost, loyalty programs, flight availability, and other metrics, and Delta has come out on top for seven straight years now, reports USA Today. The airline didn't finish first in all the categories, including pricing and its SkyMiles reward program, but its overall performance won out. The rankings:

Reserve customers must still remove their shoes and jackets and take their electronics out for screening. Clear also offers a paid service called Clear Plus, which for the price of $189 per year allows users to not only skip to the front of the line, but also to not have to show ID; instead, your eyes or fingerprints are scanned. TSA PreCheck also offers a paid service ($78 for five years) that, because you’ve gone through advance vetting, means you don’t have to remove your shoes, jacket, laptop, or other items. Reserve remains an option for those who don’t want to pay. “Travelers can now save even more time by seamlessly reserving their spot in the security line,” a Clear rep said in a statement.

Shop In RI Selects: South Beach, Miami as the #1 party destination of the month.

South Beach, Miami stands out as one of the best party vacation destinations thanks to its iconic nightlife, celebrity-studded venues, and non-stop energy. As soon as the sun sets, the city comes alive with a mix of world-famous nightclubs like LIV, STORY, and E11EVEN, each offering high-end entertainment, live DJs, and themed events that attract partygoers from around the globe. The nightlife scene is fueled by international music, luxury bottle service, and an atmosphere that blends glamor with a carefree beach vibe. Whether you’re dancing under lasers until sunrise or enjoying a chic rooftop bar with ocean views, South Beach offers something for every type of party traveler.

Sugarbush is an overlooked gem among its peers, with many skiers heading to nearby Killington, Stowe, or Mad River Glen over this double mountain resort. So why shouldn’t you do the same? To put it simply, Sugarbush offers practically everything that those more popular ski areas boast, minus the crowds. So if you fancy schussing down a freshly groomed slope without queuing for a lift or dodging snowploughers this could be just the place for you!

There are a few food items that are synonymous with Maine, one of them being the ever-so-delicious lobster roll. Tourists have been flocking to every corner of the Pine Tree state for decades to devour the delicacy. However, not all lobster rolls are built the same. Often, the biggest complaint people have about a lobster is...not enough lobster. So, the Taste of Maine restaurant in Woolwich decided to solve that problem once and for all. Shared on Facebook by Taste of Maine restaurant, they claim to be serving the world’s largest lobster roll, a monster sub at least three times the size of a typical lobster roll. The number one question in comments seems to be about the price. Given current market conditions for lobster, the daily market price for the ’world’s largest lobster roll’ has been between $150 and $170. Some will scoff at the price, but if you’re traveling from afar just to get your hands on a Maine lobster roll, why not try the largest one?

By 27% From Last Year

Travelers who plan to fly over the Fourth of July holiday weekend can expect to pay less for their domestic tickets this year, as round trip tickets will be 27% lower this year than they were at the same time in 2022.

Beyond the clubs, South Beach is known for its sun-soaked days that flow seamlessly into unforgettable nights. Beach parties, poolside DJ sets, and oceanfront bars keep the energy high from morning to midnight. With its art deco charm, palm-lined streets, and cosmopolitan crowd, the area delivers a one-of-a-kind fusion of culture and fun. You’ll find everything from Latin-inspired lounges and EDM mega-parties to laid-back beach bars with live music. Add to that the warm weather, upscale accommodations, and endless people-watching opportunities, and it’s clear why South Beach is a top-tier destination for anyone looking to celebrate in style.

Terrain: The resort is made up of two interconnected mountains, Lincoln Peak, where the majority of trails are, and Mount Ellen. Other lower peaks include Castle Rock, Gadd Peak and North Lynx. For the type of gnarly terrain you would expect from Mad River Glen, just hop aboard the Castle Rock Double chair to Castle Rock. From the top at 3,812 ft, you’ll have the steep double black chutes of Lift Line and Rumble to get stuck into. If clocking up maximum vertical drop is more your thing then you’ll find the slopes here laid out much better for top-to-bottom shredding than at Killington. Even if you ski all 111 trails here, there’s also 2,000 ac of backcountry to explore in the Slide Brook Basin area!

A round-trip ticket this year will cost a traveler a little more than $300, which is over $100 cheaper than last year. The prices of round-trip tickets are in line with how much round-trip tickets cost in 2019, according to an analysis by Hopper.

Looking to get out of Dodge? Your trip experience often begins and ends at the airport, and some are more pleasant than others. The Washington Post surveyed its readers for their top picks, spurring more than 2,300 responses. The paper’s “Department of Data” columnist, Andrew Van Dam, added his own analysis via an algorithm he built, using those responses, plus more than 450,000 Yelp reviews for restaurants and shops inside airports, as well as the airport buildings themselves. His findings? Oregon’s Portland International Airport is No. 1, which he describes as “an airport that has fun and wants you to do the same.” Here, the top 10:

June 29 and June 30 are expected to be the busiest days of the holiday weekend, with 3.7 million people expected to depart from U.S. airports on both days. The least busy day of the long weekend will be on the Fourth of July itself. A total of 3.5 million people are expected to depart from airports on July 5.

The busiest airport in the country is expected to be Atlanta’s, where over 1.8 million travelers are expected to pass through. Other airports which will be exceedingly busy include Dallas (DFW), Denver (DEN), Los Angeles (LAX), and Las Vegas (LAS).

Town: If all that wasn’t enough, Sugarbush is generally a notch cheaper than pricey Stowe, but not at the sacrifice of luxury. For lavish lodgings, look no further than Lincoln Peak Village. For these reasons and more, when it comes to the most practical ski destination in Vermont, Sugarbush is a fantasic choice for a winter weekend getaway!

Announcing the RI Hospitality Latino Council

We’re thrilled to announce the formation of the new RI Hospitality Latino Council, created to strengthen our engagement with Rhode Island’s vibrant Latino community.

This council will play a crucial role in two key areas: fostering legislative involvement and expanding Spanish-language training opportunities within the hospitality sector.

We are particularly excited to announce that Maria Jacobo will lead the RI Hospitality Latino Council. With her extensive experience and deep commitment to the community, Maria is exceptionally well-suited to guide this important initiative. Her leadership will be invaluable as we work to empower Latino professionals and businesses within Rhode Island’s hospitality industry.

Empowering Legislative Involvement

The Latino community is a vital part of Rhode Island’s economy and culture, and their voices are essential to shaping policies that affect our industry. Under Maria Jacobo’s leadership, the RI Hospitality Latino Council will actively encourage and support greater legislative involvement among Latino hospitality professionals and business owners. This means:

• Creating a direct channel for concerns and perspectives from the Latino hospitality community to reach our association and, in turn, our legislators.

• Organizing informational sessions and workshops in Spanish to demystify the legislative process and explain how proposed bills could impact their businesses and livelihoods.

• Encouraging participation in advocacy efforts, such as attending legislative hearings, contacting elected officials, and sharing their unique insights.

• Building a network of civically engaged Latino leaders within the hospitality industry who can advocate for their interests effectively.

Expanding Spanish-Language Training

Recognizing the growing number of Spanishspeaking professionals in our industry, the Latino Council, spearheaded by Maria Jacobo, will also lead the development and promotion of expanded training programs in Spanish. This critical work will ensure that:

• Essential skills training and professional development opportunities are accessible to a broader segment of our workforce.

• Safety protocols, operational best practices, and customer service standards are clearly communicated and understood by all employees, regardless of language barriers.

Career advancement opportunities become more attainable for Spanish-speaking employees, fostering a more inclusive and skilled workforce.

The council will identify specific training needs, develop relevant curriculum, and facilitate the delivery of these programs—ultimately enhancing the professionalism and success of our Latino workforce.

By establishing the RI Hospitality Latino Council— and with Maria Jacobo at its helm—we are taking a significant step toward building a more inclusive, representative, and empowered hospitality industry in Rhode Island. We believe this initiative will not only benefit the Latino community but also strengthen our entire association and the broader hospitality sector.

Red, White & Move: Ignite Your Summer Fitness This July!

As fireworks light up the sky and grills fire up across the country, July is more than just a month to celebrate our nation’s independence — it’s also a perfect time to declare freedom from excuses and recommit to your fitness goals.

Summer is in full swing, and with longer days, warmer weather, and a natural burst of patriotic pride, there’s no better moment to move your body, sweat with purpose, and honor your health.

Freedom to Move — Anywhere, Anytime

You don’t need a gym to get moving this summer. July is ideal for outdoor workouts that embrace the sunshine and fresh air. Think:

• Bodyweight circuits in the park

• Patriotic fun runs or walks

• Water workouts like swimming laps, paddle boarding, or kayaking

Backyard boot camps with friends and family — burpees, pushups, squats, and laughter included

Fuel the Fire

With summer barbecues and holiday spreads, it’s easy to overindulge. But fueling your body doesn’t mean skipping the fun. Try:

• Grilled lean proteins like chicken, turkey burgers, or salmon

• Fresh, hydrating fruits like watermelon, berries, and cucumbers

• Staying hydrated with water — infuse with mint, lemon, or blueberries for a festive twist

Independence from All-or-Nothing Thinking

Remember, progress doesn’t demand perfection. Whether you’ve had a long break or you’re

just starting your journey, give yourself grace. Independence is about choosing — choosing to show up, even if it’s just for a 10-minute walk, a few lunges in the kitchen, or choosing water over soda.

A

Challenge for You: “The Stars & Stripes Circuit”

Try this simple patriotic-inspired workout you can do anywhere:

Perform 3 rounds of the following (rest 30 seconds between exercises):

• 7 Burpees (for July)

• 4 Push-ups (for the 4th)

• 17 Jump Squats (for 1776)

• 25 Mountain Climbers (for 2025)

It’s a quick burn, easy to remember, and a great way to bring purpose to your holiday hustle.

Final Thoughts

This July, celebrate your strength. Celebrate your freedom to move, nourish, and care for your body in ways that make you feel empowered. Whether you’re watching fireworks or lighting your own spark — let this be your month to shine bright, inside and out.

Here’s to health, freedom, and fierce independence — Happy July!

• Ease into your return.

Don’t rush. If your injury kept you out for a month, give yourself two months to fully recover. Your body is affected in more ways than just the injured area, so allow time for a full recovery.

• Start slow.

There are many things you can do to regain flexibility and range of motion. Begin with basic stretching. Once you feel comfortable, incorporate light weights and slow walking for cardio.

• Do not ignore pain.

People who exercise regularly often push themselves, but post-injury is not the time to challenge your body. If you feel pain, stop and consult your doctor.

• Adapt your favorite activities.

Whether it’s running, golf, or swimming, start slow. Walk before you run. Putt or hit balls before playing a full round. Lean against the edge of the pool and kick, or use a noodle to swim gently.

If you want to return, you will. It all starts in the mind. Having the will to do something is more than half the battle. Most injuries heal. A strong, determined mindset will help the healing process and get you back in motion sooner rather than later.

Eventually, you can—and will—return to what you love. Use this time to revamp your routine and observe how your body responds.

On a personal note, I hope this encourages and inspires you to keep moving. After being told I shouldn’t and couldn’t run anymore, I knew I had to find a way to mentally and physically achieve the results I used to get from running. Truthfully, it forced me to change my routine—and my body responded positively. I actually saw and felt changes I hadn’t noticed before.

This shouldn’t have surprised me, because I’ve always told my training clients, “You need to change things up to see a difference.” Change is good for the body.

“Recovery is a marathon not a sprint”

Do not rush back thinking you can do everything exactly the way you were doing it prior to the injury. Give yourself and your body time.

“Setbacks happen. You can either let them destroy your or let them strengthen you”

THERE IS NO OFFSEASON FOR FITNESS

This should be pretty apparent for most people. We all like to go on holiday a couple times a year. The challenge is trying to stick to your or some type of workout regimen, while trying to enjoy the beach and eat some ice cream. Okay, I eat frozen yogurt.

One of the concepts I learned from one of earlier mentors in the nutrition world is “athletes need a cheat meal once a week, but keep it reasonable.” The same holds true for us vacation fitness warriors. You must keep your workout regimen reasonable. The other concept is how to get a workout in, when your family does not realize what you’re doing.

For me, my family and I go to Cape Cod every year for 2 weeks. Now that I’m 50, I realized what Randy Couture said when they asked him how much time he takes off between training. His answer was 4 days. When asked why he responded by saying, “at my age, it hurts too much to come back.” I could not imagine taking 2 weeks off from training. When most people do, it’s even harder to come back. Since we are away for 2 weeks, we need two vehicles. This is a perfect opportunity to bring my kit with me. Again, I try to keep it reasonable. This year, I set up a circuit that could be done in 30 minutes or less. My concept was to keep moving and get it done so we can be off to have fun. However, that did not keep me from seeking other workouts in such activities as swimming and kayaking. Both are great workouts and they attack muscles differently, when you have not done either for a bit. My kit included the following.

50 Rage Soft Touch Atlas Ball

4 lb sledge hammers

Ko 8

40 lb Kettlebell

20 lbs med ball

My goal was 20 to 30 reps on each drill, with 3 rounds, and a “Grit Challenge” at the end . A “Grit Challenge” is something really taxing after your full workout, pushing you over the edge. Mine was the 50 lb Rage ball fully extended over my head and walking up a 20 percent grade for 100 yards. Yes, it was ugly.

Here’s the circuit:

Med ball twists 20 reps - Hold the medicine ball as far out as possible from your body and then rotate from side to side.

Med ball big circles - Hold the med ball over your head, as you squat down, draw a big circle in front of you from your head to your legs.

Single leg KB deadlift - Stand on one leg and hold the KB in the opposite hand. Now, bend your ankle, knee, and hip, and touch the KB to the ground.

KB Snatches - Stand with the KB in front of your legs, with a bent knee position. Next, as you expose up, launch the KB up until shoulder lock out position.

KO 8 - suspension rows - with the KO 8 or other suspension training, lean back with your arms straight and then, pull your body up to chest height.

KO8 - Pushups - with the suspension trainer set up, place your feet behind you, and your hands in the loops. Now, perform a push up as you normally would.

Rage Ball Fireman pick ups- with the ball between your legs, squat down and lift the ball to one shoulder. Now, place the ball back down and repeat on the other side.

Rage Ball Thai Knees - with Rage Ball in front of you, place both arms on the Rage ball in a plank position. Now, push the ball away and drag back in as you knee the ball.

Thor Hammer - sitting on the ground with your knees bent and feet elevated, take both the 4 lb sledge hammers and circle your head one way, then the other.

Iron T - in the same position as above, with the hammers behind you, extend the hammers out to the sides of your shoulders at the same time.

Grit Challenge - Take the 50 lb Rage Atlas ball and extend over your head. Now, try walking 100 yards.

As I have said, there is no off season, even when you’re on a vacation.

A Developing Story

Jonathan DePina works to turn neighborhoods into beautification destinations.

The places we live change over time. Sometimes, these areas are given a face-lift to enhance the charm and appeal for would-be purchasers. Other times, they fall into disrepair and remain that way because nobody sees the benefits of rehabilitation. What someone sees as an eyesore could become someone else’s canvas. Through the years, styles and tastes give way to the newer and (usually) better, more affordable ways of doing projects.

One area real estate developer doesn’t see properties without hope. Instead, he and his team look at rundown areas and see vision, hope and opportunity.

That is how Jonathan DePina, President and founder of Maximiliano Group, transforms properties in disarray and turns them into luxury homes for those looking to move either from across the state to across the country. His current project, located on 60 Angell Street in Providence, is one of those.

Jonathan DePina views Rhode Island as a preferred destination to live.

“There are many people on the West Coast, particularly the ‘Tech Corridor’ between Silicon Valley and Seattle, who want or need a change of scenery and consider coming to the East Coast, I’ve worked with a few people already who moved from the west coast to RI,” he said. “Rhode Island has a lot to offer between its history, beaches, dining, entertainment, and other amenities. There is a charm here that isn’t available elsewhere. The proximity to Boston is so appealing, the best of both worlds. There is a growing need for additional luxury homes in this area because there is a high demand for them.”

DePina backed up his words by featuring one of the buyers he’s been working with: Vanessa Alvarez is a native Rhode Islander who’s making her way back after over a decade in Silicon Valley and Seattle, working in big tech companies and startups. After her startup was acquired, she decided to return to Rhode Island and help grow the entrepreneurial

ecosystem. She reached out to Jonathan to show her one-of-a- kind properties, the homes that she knew were unique to Rhode Island, but with a modern touch.

She believes the goal for them is simple. “Providence is a beautiful city,” said Vanessa, signifying her desire to return east as proof. “I am aligned with the goal of beautifying the city, particularly on the East Side, and love the idea of developers building one-of-a-kind, single-family homes to encourage people to settle here.”

What sets Jonathan apart from other such developers is his passion for his projects. He said while other people in his industry are looking to put up homes quickly, he bides his time. For DePina, it’s more about the quality of the work over the quantity of properties they can build and sell.

He would rather take time to find the types of finishes that will bring out the charm, craftsmanship, and décor, than just use supplies at national chain stores and be done. That is not how he works, Jonathan noted.

“Many developers average between two and three months to complete their project. That doesn’t often provide the time to find the right theme for the home. They may be thinking about their next project somewhere else.

“It can often take more than a year to finish a home,” Jonathan continued. “I want to find that special lighting, such as a chandelier, or a molding that will enhance the home’s beauty. It may be just a project for some developers. For me however, it represents something more. I want to return to the homes and see how it breathes and evolves over time and know that we had a hand in making all of that happen.”

One big misconception DePina faces is being thought of as a “house flipper.” He said that notation does not sit well with him because his work stands for the long-term buyers, families looking for their forever homes. While there are people who buy properties just to fix them up with a gloss-over job and resell them for profit, Jonathan said that is not his plan—now or ever.

DePina is not confined to the city. Besides the East Side, he noted other projects happening throughout the state, including Charlestown, several other up and coming neighborhoods in Providence, a 24-unit development in Brockton, MA, all throughout New England, Florida and North Carolina.

Jonathan has spent years in the mortgages and real estate industries and was instrumental in expanding the region for a real estate tech startup based in Seattle. He’s now venturing into another mortgage startup, still in stealth, but tying his expertise in mortgages and real estate together to create a more seamless real estate experience for buyers. He understands the power of using technology to build a better real estate experience.

His ideal clients are potential buyers in the luxury market, investors looking to make long-term, rewarding bets on luxury real estate, and real estate agents looking to be a part of something amazing. They can both be of service to him on locating possible building sites and places that could benefit from a transformation.

Jonathan takes pride in turning eyesore properties into eyepopping ones. He says by being someone who can potentially change the look and feel of a neighborhood, he is making a difference in Rhode Island communities as well.

How to Help Recent Graduates Achieve Financial Stability

Graduating from college often marks a time in life when young adults take on responsibility over their finances. If you’re the parent of a recent graduate who you’ve supported financially through college, you may be looking forward to passing the torch to them – but you may also want to help them get off on the right foot. Here are some tips you can pass along:

Study your employee benefits. For many recent grads, this is the first time they’ve been offered a 401(k), health insurance or the chance to purchase additional time off. Before enrolling in benefits, graduates should thoroughly research and understand their options. Remind them that it’s okay to have questions, such as whether they should consider disability insurance or if a plan with a Health Savings Account (HSA) is the right fit. Their company’s human resources department or benefits provider may be good resources for information and support.

If they have questions specific to their financial situation, they could consider meeting with a financial professional. A financial advisor can provide objective advice and answers to more technical questions.

Have a plan for your debt and credit. Graduates today have more student loan debt than previous generations, which means balancing their postgrad lifestyle with student loan payments should be a top priority. They should consider the value of consistently paying above the minimum amount due. Establishing this responsible habit can help them avoid costly interest rate charges and late fees.

The same thinking should be applied to all forms of credit. It’s important for young adults to establish a good credit history, so opening a credit card

can be a wise financial move. In general, however, it’s best to stick to one or two credit cards to avoid overextending.

Develop a budget. Remind your new grad that without careful planning, it’s easy for their hard-earned paychecks to trickle away. Creating a budget can help young adults feel in control and accountable for their cash flow. Budgeting, while often a mundane task, can help ensure their money is being spent on or saved for the items that are most important to them.

This is exciting time for graduates, but it’s also an important time to get the right financial discipline in place. Your guidance can help them build a solid foundation.

What is an Independent Adjuster?

One of the more frustrating experiences that one can work through is that of dealing with a homeowners insurance claim. The ironic part about this, of course, is the endless array of commercials that one sees from the various insurance companies touting their wares through creative marketing, celebrity appearances, and a whole lotta superfluous exaggeration, as to how well taken care of their clients are.

What I can only assume is that the marketing departments of these said companies are unintentionally promoting product benefits that, other than offering a cost savings, which may be realized in choosing one company over another, simply do not exist.

This plays itself out in real world scenarios on a daily basis, particularly in the home improvement industry.

When someone experiences a loss that is covered by their homeowners insurance policy, whether it be due to a broken pipe, a tree falling on the house, etc., many times it is assumed that their insurance company will simply “take care of them.”

Even for those folks who realize there may be some initial ‘hoop jumping’ when filing a claim, there is still often the assumptive approach that the insured has nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, this utopian mindset seldom truly plays itself out in reality.

The majority of homeowners really do not have experience filing a homeowners insurance claim. For many, taking the insurance company’s word and following its verbatim guidance could very well leave the insured in a quite compromised position. In fact, in almost 30 years of working directly with insurance companies, I can say with absolute certainty that the truth of these types of situations is that as the adjuster assigned by the insurance company works through the claim, 50% of the time, they are reasonable to deal and work with.

The other 50% of the time, the adjuster is out of their mind (please excuse the crass descriptor). Literally, it is black & white. 50% of the time, a reasonable situation (all things considered) & 50% of the time, a situation in which the homeowner could really get raked over the coals for the simple reason of just not knowing any better.

Enter the Independent Adjuster (the ‘IA’).

An Independent Adjuster is an Adjuster that does not work for an individual insurance company, but who works entirely on their own. While they may, at times, be hired by the insurance companies themselves to adjust claims, many IAs work strictly with insureds as an advocate for them to make sure that anything the insured is entitled to under their homeowners policy, is properly compensated for by their homeowners insurance company.

Many IAs are former adjusters that have been employed in the past by an insurance company, hence, the reason why they are often so much better at what they do than the potentially junior adjuster, which the insurance company happens to assign to any given case.

It is important that the IA has a copy of your policy (it is wise to keep a physical copy of it in a safe place, as well as an electronic version), as they will use the policy to aid in making a case for the amount the insurance company should ultimately be paying out on the claim.

IAs usually get paid 10% of whatever the total value of the claim is. Considering how far off insurance companies’ initial analyses can often be this is very much worth it.

If you are in a pinch and are able to connect with a really good IA after reviewing your particular case, they will be honest with you and let you know whether they will be able to help you out or not. Although involving an IA can potentially drag a case out much longer than if the insurance company properly ponied up the money related to the claim right from the very beginning, in those instances, where I evaluate a situation and recommend an IA become involved, I believe that the wait will be well worth it.

Having to deal with some type of insurance loss at your home can be painful enough, or having to deal with an insurance company that is intentionally or unintentionally not working in the best interest of their insureds, is additional excruciation that no homeowner should have to experience.

Fortunately, aligning yourself with a professionally competent IA can be as relieving as having Batman arrive on scene when any downtrodden damsel finds themself in distress.

Rhode Island History

A-Veterans Pest Control Knows What Bugs You

It’s Summer in Rhode Island. After a long, cold winter the warm weather is finally here and there are a multitude of fun outdoor activities and experiences awaiting both our residents and visitors alike.

With the longer days and warmer temperatures, not only are people more active, but so are a variety of insects who emerge from their dormant states that they enter into when the mercury drops and food is scarce.

By now you’ve seen many of the seasonal insects around your property and inside your home, from ants and lady bugs to spiders and beetles. Most of the time they are harmless, but it’s a short jump, or a

crawl, from nuisance to infestation. You might be tempted to experiment with some do-it-yourself remedies, but if you don’t completely get rid of the pests, the problem will only get worse. This is something that Bruce Beaumier, owner of A-Veteran’s Pest Control, sees often. Bruce has been in this business for forty years now, and he and his team are prepared to handle any situation.

“One thing I’ve learned over these forty years is to remain open-minded,” Bruce says. “I’m always willing to learn something. That’s something I pride myself on, because every time the phone rings it’s going to be a new client, with unique needs, and that’s the approach you need to last in this business.”

While Bruce handles the administrative work at A-Veterans, he also goes out into the field, which is something he loves. In fact, if you request a consultation, you almost certainly will see Bruce at your door to

provide you with the answers to any question you may have.

“There isn’t one customer I haven’t talked to personally,” Bruce says. “There isn’t anyone sitting in my office. I’m the office. I take the phone call and if my technician is busy, I’ll take the job myself.”

Climate certainly plays a factor in the populations of insects and rodents, and Rhode Island’s unpredictable and sometimes extreme seasonal weather patterns always makes Bruce’s job challenging.

“We got a lot of rain this spring, and this excessive amount of moisture creates a huge increase in insect movement beyond what you would typically see,” Bruces says. “Homeowners and businesses can expect to see the uptick of insect activity as the summer gets underway.”

First and foremost, Bruce strives to educate

his clients. He operates a no-pressure business model, giving his client options by providing them with the information they need to make their own decisions.

“This can be done over the phone or in person,” Bruce says. “Whatever is convenient for the customer. I treat my customers the way I want to be treated. I return all phone calls within 24 hours and I’m prompt with my appointments. If I say I’m going to be somewhere at a certain time, I’m there.

Bruce is fully licensed and certified for residential, commercial, and industrial properties, providing interior and exterior treatments. A-Veterans handles demo inspections and bird control, and they can eliminate any problem a homeowner or businessowner is having.

“We provide monthly, quarterly, weekly, annual, and bi-annual programs,” Bruce says. “We provide services for all rodents and insects, including ants, termites, bees, mosquitoes, ticks and conduct inspections for any real estate property; transaction, refinancing, and pre-demolition.

Bruce’s four decades in the industry speaks for itself. Questions and consultations are always complimentary.

Winning the war on pests, one customer at a time, is more than just a motto at A-Veterans Pest Control, it’s an approach to an ongoing battle to keep multi-legged guests outside client homes and places of business.

A-Veterans is located at 600 Putnam Pike in Greenville. For prompt, professional answers and service, call 401-349-3433 or email bbeaumier@cox.net

Meet The Dream Team: Chris Colarusso

Each month, Shop in RI Magazine profiles one member of “The Dream Team,” a weekly networking group that meets in Smithfield.

This month, we feature Chris Colarusso of Paynada in Hanover, Massachusetts.

His business specializes in credit card processing for numerous business ventures. He uses a number of area processing units to provide clients with ways of generating revenue while providing excellent service between vendors and their customers. While he has been involved with the industry for some time, Chris has been planning to expand.

He believes there are numerous opportunities for him to grow his business.

“My business specializes in implementing dualpricing, in which a small convenience fee is passed onto the customer. This fee offsets the credit card processing fee for the business owner.” he said. “If the customer pays with cash, then they receive a discount.

“I see a lot of ways in which my experience can open doors toward creating revenue streams,” Chris added.

He is moving towards having his own company, CLC Consulting, also in Hanover. He believes that by going out on his own, Chris can devote more time toward helping more customers.

A wonderful client for Chris would be small, medium and large ventures. He is targeting a wide array of industries, ranging from towing companies and food trucks to cannabis and pest control facilities.

You may contact him directly at 508-846-9113 to schedule time to meet.

As for joining The Dream Team, Chris cites member Corey Phinney for inviting him to a meeting. Since becoming a member eight months ago, he knows first-hand how impactful the group has become to his company.

“I knew Corey a long time,” he said. “He said I should start coming to these meetings. It has been a wonderful experience and has been very helpful in growing my business. It is worth the time driving from the South Shore to attend every week!”

“The Dream Team” currently has 40 members and growing. They meet every Wednesday morning from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM at the Home2Suites Hilton on Douglas Pike (Rte. 7) in Smithfield, across from Laura’s Bar and Grill. The group is looking to grow its team and is interested in meeting professionals from various businesses looking to connect and help each other grow through referral business. Dream Team is all about, “Friends helping Friends.”

Further information about the group may be found by contacting either President Rocco Elgar at 401-265-0857, or at therockhbi@msn. com, or Vice President Tim Richard at 401-7664200, or at tim@estenandrichardinsurance. com.

Summertime is…“Deal Time!”

Nestled by the Lincoln and Smithfield town line, Toyota of Smithfield has new and certified, preowned vehicles available for purchase.

Regardless of why you are shopping for a vehicle, Toyota’s staff ensures that your car-buying process happens smoothly.

General Manager John Durrani said those seeking their next vehicle should connect with its awardwinning Sales Department to find dealer incentives.

“Anyone trading in either their used or certified, preowned cars, will receive an additional $1,000 over book value,” Durrani said. “There won’t be a better time for anyone to trade in their cars. Your trade is worth more than it ever has before, and it’s worth more now than it will ever be worth.”

For those who already either own or lease their vehicles, customers may visit its award-winning Service Department for maintenance. Their staff can diagnose small problems before they become costly.

Durrani said they welcome customers to trade in their used cars. He said there are Toyota incentives to move someone from their current car into a newer one.

“We want the public to drive in with their used vehicles. We need more inventory to fulfill orders,” he said.

To help facilitate their need for additional certified, pre-owned vehicles, Toyota of Smithfield also offers 115% of its book value for any used cars. It doesn’t matter whether or not the customer buys from them.

“We will purchase your trade-in, even if you don’t buy a vehicle from us,” he added.

The dealership holds a monthly private sale. This month’s event is scheduled for Friday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26, from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM, by appointment only. Attendees will have access to their inventory. Managers will be there to answer questions and offer additional incentives.

The Dealership’s Peace of Mind Purchase Process means no hassles over pricing, trade-in values, cash back and rebate incentives offered up front and the best available leasing and financing terms up front. Durrani said that this is just part of the all-around, customer-driven experience he implemented to ensure the process does not get bogged down in miscommunication.
