Westerly Community Credit Union Expands to Coventry

Westerly Community Credit Union (WCCU) has recently opened their h location at 2405 Nooseneck Hill Road in Coventry. In celebration of their newest location, they held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and had a Grand Opening Celebration Week in early January and are currently o ering Grand Opening specials.

e new branch features the latest technologies, including an ITM (Interactive Teller Machine), technology zone, co ee station, and a kid’s play area. “We wanted to create a warm and modern branch where our members could visit and meet with our friendly sta to nd solutions to all their nancial needs,” stated Meg Sisco.

e ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by honored guests, including Lauren E.I. Slocum IOM, Resident & CEO of the Central Chamber of Commerce, Stephen Lombardi, Executive Director of the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, Donna Jennings, O ce Manager of the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, Pete Stefanski, Chairperson of the WCCU Board, and Steven Scales,VP Chairperson of the WCCU Board, along with WCCU sta . Steve White, President & CEO of WCCU, remarked, “ is new location provides a convenient location for our current and potential members in the area and is also a great location to support future expansion and sta recruitment. We are looking forward to getting involved and meeting people in the local community.”

To celebrate the opening of this new branch, they are o ering great specials and holding exclusive events all year long.

ey just held their biggest event, the 2022 Annual WCCU Holiday Basketball Tournament. Since its inception in 1984, the tournament has been solely sponsored and underwritten by WCCU. All gate receipts are donated back to the four participating schools. To date, the tournament has raised more than $250,000. e event takes place during the school break between Christmas and New Year’s Day. It’s unique because the boys’ and girls’ varsity and junior varsity teams all get to play in the event.

WCCU also strongly focuses on providing nancial education for its members and the local schools. New in 2021, WCCU launched its WCCU Financial Education Center on their website, www. westerlyccu.com. is free center is available for all ages and provides information based on speci c topics like ‘Just Starting Out,’ ‘Loans and Lending,’ and ‘Small Business Essentials,’ or to create a customized playlist based on your speci c needs. ere are over 50 nancial education modules to choose from with quick three- to ve–minute videos designed to help provide the information you need to make your nancial decisions easier.

WCCU sponsors nancial education initiatives in local high schools, including the Ever Online nancial education, and CU4Reality Financial Literacy fairs.

WCCU is also the sole sponsor of a new on-line nancial literacy program at URI, the Rhody Financial Education Center. is program has even been incorporated into the freshman syllabus. In addition, departments and student organizations have access to help teach nancial literacy to the student body.
