Anthony’s Authentic Italian Cuisine: A Fixture on the Hill

Owner of Anthony’s Italian Cuisine, Anthony Palmisano, knows Federal Hill in Providence well. His family has been a part of that neighborhood 842 for more than a century after emigrating from Sicily and Naples, Italy. His family grew up close to the area, and when he opened his restaurant on 441 Atwells Ave. in Providence three years ago, it was a homecoming for him and his family.

“I left in 1989 to work in Las Vegas and Florida at various Italian festivals,” said Palmisano, who is a third-generation feast festival promoter and a well-known local philanthropist. THE GUILD Keeps Pouring and Chugging Along

Since the pandemic gripped the country back in March, businesses large and small had to adjust on the fly. That meant closing down, purchasing protective equipment for employees and customers when they returned, adhering to the state’s rules and guidelines and above all else—keeping everyone safe.

That was why Jeremy Duffy, co-owner of The Guild Brewery, located at 461 Main Street in Pawtucket, succeeded in balancing the juggling act of staying open and ensuring the health and wellbeing of everyone.

“The best thing I heard a customer tell me was, ’Thank you for making me feel safe to go out, but still feel like I was part of a community,” said Duffy.

“We wipe down the rails and tables after every use. We have plenty of space to serve customers and provide table service. It’s been an adjustment, but we are happy to be open and giving people a release.”

Duffy said their business was booming before COVID-19 hit. They had 85,000 visitors last year alone and had numerous events ranging from corporate events to weddings booked. The first two months of 2020 has over 1,600 people patronizing the brewery a week along with booking functions.

After the state-mandated shutdown last March, The Guild had to cancel some 50 events and their in-person service. While that was a major hit, the Brewery continued to brew and package that keep all the employees working.”

Once they were able to reopen in May, they operated at roughly two-thirds capacity. Fortunately, the customers started returning and business has since picked up, though Duffy adds it has not reached the pre-pandemic numbers.

“We see ourselves as a community-based company,” said Duffy. “We had local food trucks, music and art exhibits here before the pandemic. We brought back the music on Saturday and Sunday nights outside, but the rest will have to wait until more restrictions are lifted by the state.”

One of the reasons why they were able open their doors sooner rather than later is their campus-like layout. Duffy noted they initially had a spot in Providence picked out when they started the business a few years ago. However, a fire at that location took away that endeavor. In searching for a new place, they came upon a historical site in Pawtucket that had 131,000 square feet of space. They envisioned a place for storing tanks and having function rooms.

When they originally opened in March of 2017, they had a main area, a Beer Garden, a Beer Hall and a Function Room. The vast amount of space meant plans for expansion and large scale events.

Today, they can host smaller events such as weddings for up to 50 people. Their 5,500 square foot space allows them to spread out their customers for more than the required six feet. An advantage to the extra space they have at their disposal.

Duffy said The Guild is a partner brewery that processes for eight existing breweries as well as produce their own for the beer hall and beer garden. Boston brewery is Night Shift Brewing (IPAs to Hard Seltzers). Cape Cod brewery is Devil’s Purse that focuses on European style ales including their Kolsch.

Duffy said the limitations are only saddled by the experimenter.

“We had one brewer suggest a Peanut Butter Stout, so we said let’s do it?” he said. “We went through the process that can take as it needs to be perfected. We all sampled the brew, and liked it enough to add it to our list of offerings. Some of the drinks we serve comes from our staff as well as patrons who want to try something new and different.”

Looking toward the future, Duffy said the state’s “Take it Outside” campaign energized them to host a Beer Garden at the I-195 Pedestrian Bridge. He said the initial reception there has been quite positive. It’s a six-week pilot program that ran until November 1. He said the response has been terrific and The Guild is excited to open a larger beer garden in 2021.

The Guild is open from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday (with social distancing trivia night), Wednesday and Thursday nights from 12:00 noon till 8:00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. They are closed on Monday.

Walk-ins are welcome, but people are encouraged to make reservations online at www.theguildri.com. That way, The Guild Brewery Staff can accommodate all parties and have enough time to clean appropriately.

This recipe of Candy Kiss Chocolate Chip cookies has always been a favorite of my family and a Christmastime tradition. They are easy to make and can be made as a single cookie, or added to a cookie tray. There are variations to this recipe, some using peanut butter as an ingredient, however; for families with allergies, this recipe is without worry.

Ingredients: 2 ½ cups flour 1 tsp baking soda ½ tsp salt 1 cup butter ½ cup granulated sugar ¾ cup brown sugar 1 small package instant vanilla pudding mix 2 tsp vanilla 1 egg ½ package chocolate chips (red and green) ½ cup dark chocolate chips (optional) 1 bag of Hershey Chocolate Candy Kisses or Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses for a different taste and more of a holiday appearance. (Mixing it up with both flavors is another option.) Holly Sprinkles (optional) Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. Stir baking soda, flour and salt; set aside.

3. Combine butter, sugars and pudding mix, beating until fluffy.

4. Add vanilla and egg; beat until smooth.

5. Add dry ingredients; mix well.

6. Stir in chocolate chips.

7. Roll dough into balls and bake for 8-10 minutes.

8. Remove cookies from oven, place on a wire rack to cool.

9. Before cookies cool, press candy Kiss in the middle of the cookie.

10. While the Candy Kiss is still warm, gently add holly sprinkles to the top of it.

15 oz cooked or canned pumpkin 5 large eggs 2 cups Supreme Ricotta Cheese ¼ cup milk ¼ cup maple syrup 1½ tbsp melted butter 1 cup sugar Dash of lemon juice 1 tbsp cornstarch ½ tsp cinnamon ½ tsp ginger ½ tsp nutmeg Pie crust (single 10” shell) Sift sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg together in a medium bowl.

Set aside. Beat eggs slightly in large bowl with high speed mixer. Add milk, maple syrup, pumpkin, Supreme Ricotta, melted butter, lemon juice and sifted ingredients to beaten eggs.

Beat this mixture at medium speed until well blended and smooth (about 5 mins).

Pour mixture into uncooked 10” pie crust.

Bake in 450 oven for 15 mins.

Reduce temperature to 350 and continue to bake for 50 minutes. Serves 10.

Cookies •1 cup butter or margarine softened • 2 cups sugar • 2 eggs • 2 cups Supreme Ricotta Cheese (Whole Milk) • 2 tsps vanilla • 4 cups flour • 1 tsp baking powder • 1 tsp baking soda • Few drops of lemon extract Frosting • Powdered sugar • Milk In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time and beat.

Add Supreme Ricotta Cheese and vanilla, and beat for 1 minute. In a separate bowl combine last 3 ingredients together and add to the ricotta mixture and beat until well blended.

Drop dough by teaspoonful onto a cookie sheet and bake at 350° F for 11 to 15 minutes until bottoms are light brown. Mix powdered sugar and milk into a glaze and frost cookies.

By Jennifer Coates For Kristen Moshiek, the owner of Salon Moshiek, styling hair and making people look and feel their best is just second nature. She has, after all, been doing this for over twenty years, during which time she earned the highest designation of “Master Stylist.”

Over the course of her career, she has become an award-winning stylist and has garnered a loyal following that began in her early years as a stylist in Boston.

While Kristen was working in an upscale salon on Newbury Street, she received the 2008 Boston’s Best award and the 2012 award for Best of Boston “Best Bridal Hairstylist” by Boston Wedding Magazine. These distinguished awards reflect her dedication to her craft, but mostly to her clients, from the beautiful brides whose hair she styles, to clients who have been with her from the very beginning. She has earned a reputation for her signature bridal looks and is sought after for her wedding and special occasion hairstyling. Her resume boasts of well over one hundred formal events.

In addition to her extensive experience styling hair, Kristen has formal training in Japanese Hair Straightening (with permanent results), Keratin Hair Straightening, razor cutting and texturizing, coloring, and “Great Lengths Hair Extensions.”

She also specializes in hair-thinning products.

For Kristen, her work has always been more than a job, it is a passion. Kristen brought this passion to Portsmouth over three and a half years ago, when she moved to the area and opened her high-end boutique salon, aptly named Salon Moshiek. She poured her heart into creating a sophisticated, chic, and serene space, where clients can come to be pampered and to escape from the cares of the world. Salon Moshiek was a labor of love for Kristen and so she was very selective about who she chose to share it with; this is why she carefully hand-selected her talented co-workers. Merri Russo, who came on board this summer, is just one of those talented assets to the team.

Merri is a “Senior Stylist” whose career spans 22 years. She, like Kristen, is devoted to her clients and takes great pride in the enduring relationships she has built with them over the years.

Both stylists listen intently and communicate clearly with their clients, before creating a custom look that is uniquely their own.

Merri specializes in custom foil techniques, which bring life and dimension to hair. She is trained in Global Keratin Taming and Matrix straightening systems. Along with Kristen, she has an expert level of prowess with many top-of-the-line brands such as Goldwell, Redken, and Wella. Merri loves to showcase the natural flow and shape of hair and can tame just about any rogue cowlick! She also does waxings. The only thing that Merri loves more than styling hair is her clients themselves, many of whom she has known her entire career.

Kristen and Merri are joined by the youngest member of this close-knit team, “Junior Stylist” Cara Peloquin. Cara, who began at the salon in 2017, had just graduated from Paul Mitchell, when she was hired by Kristen. Cara fell in love with the salon the first time she came through its doors, and her youthful energy and design aesthetic make her a huge bonus to the salon. She, like her co-workers, follows the latest trends and techniques, from cuts to colors and more. 4th Annual Christmas Eve Dinner

Despite the ongoing pandemic and the implications of having to stay closer to home, one area business woman continues her tradition of helping those people who are less fortunate during the holidays.

Ilanna Ball, the owner of two North Smithfield companies, is once again hosting a Christmas Eve dinner that will be held at the Millrace Kitchen, located on 40 South Main Street, in Woonsocket.

Ball initially held the event in 2017, as a way of bringing people together, who may not have someplace else to go and/or do not have families nearby to visit. She said her drive to hold something then centered around one very basic reason.

“I saw that there were Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas Eve dinner events, but there wasn’t anything happening on Christmas Eve,” said Ball. “It sounded like a novel idea to hold something then, and it has since grown into a community oriented event.”

In addition to receiving a hot meal, families will have a chance to pick out gifts as well. The event is free and open to the public.

This year will have a different feel from previous events, for obvious reasons. Because of COVID-19 protocols, patrons will be spread out, and everyone—including volunteers—will be wearing masks. The serving times are staggered by last name to ensure everyone who comes gets to participate. The event begins at 3:00 pm for people with last names beginning with A through G. At 4:30, visitors with last names beginning with the letter H to P will be welcome, followed by a group of people from the letters Q through Z at 6:00 pm.

Adeline’s, A Speakeasy Kitchen Bar, located on Mendon Road in Cumberland, will once again be doing the cooking and serving food for this event. Owner Philip Giguere has donated his time for this event and is known to help out when asked by the community.

“It’s a chance to help out at a time of need,” said Giguere.

“Ilanna has been very supportive of the restaurant, and she does a lot to help out others. I am pleased to be a part of the Dinner once again.”

Ball spends a great amount of time advocating for the homeless and related causes. She spends a couple of Sundays a month handing out lunches to homeless people in Woonsocket and at other places around Northern Rhode Island. She has also delivered meals to homeless shelters in Greater Providence.

Hollingsworth’s studies instilled in her a passion for travel and adventure, but also for the beauty of textiles, clothing, and design. Upon her college graduation, she opened a small antique clothing store on the second floor of a walk-up on Thayer Street in Providence. In time, an

empty storefront across the street became available and Hollinsworth leapt at the chance to open a new dress shop, which she named “ZuZu’s Petals.” That was in 1989, over 31 years ago.

Though the shop is now commonly known as ZuZu’s, its original name was inspired by a heartwarming scene in the iconic film, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Many may recall George Bailey’s daughter ZuZu; she is the one who gets to say the unforgettable line, “Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings.” When ZuZu brings a rose home from school and mourns the loss of some of its petals, George, played by Jimmy Stewart, stuffs the fallen petals into his pocket, as he comforts his sickly child. Those petals ~ “ZuZu’s Petals” ~ later become a symbol of life and second chances. It is only fitting that Hollingsworth

should choose this metaphor of hope and life to represent her store, for she, too, celebrates the wonder of life and all its beauty.

Beauty is indeed what you will find at ZuZu’s in East Greenwich. Hollingsworth opened this shop twelve years ago (her original Thayer Street store closed in 2013, but she maintains many of its first customers). She describes her merchandise as “classic with a twist” ~ a twist of elegance, a twist of superior workmanship, a twist of timelessness. The store has a SoHovibe straight from the artsy neighborhood of New York City’s lower East Side, but it also has an aesthetic all its own.

The Scituate Business Association will kick off their first Annual Festival of Trees - local businesses will be decorating trees that will be placed around the North Scituate Gazebo for all to view and enjoy. On Dec 4th from 5:30- 8 they will have a Tree Lighting sponsored by the Scituate Business Association of RI, Fredrickson Farms and the Scituate Recreation Department, with music from the Nightlife Entertainment Brass Quintet, and weather permitting, a train for children to ride and a visit from Santa (all COVID safe). How to Feel Fit and Healthy, Even Over the Holidays

Holidays are usually enjoyable.

However, unhealthy habits can be attached to the parties and gatherings.

I hope to give you some tips to make this holiday season more healthy. I did some research with the Mayo Clinic and this is what I found. Number one do not skip meals. Skipping a meal with the goal of saving calories, prior to a holiday event, can often backfire and lead to overeating due to ravenous feelings of hunger. Having a filling snack, such as fruit, string cheese, yogurt or a small handful of nuts, can help to curb your appetite and prevent overeating.

Following are some tips to hopefully help you if you are attending a gathering: Contribute a healthy dish.

Make something somewhat healthy but enjoyable. There are plenty of options.

Guacamole with healthy chips is one option. Shrimp cocktail is another. A tasty Salad is another. There are plenty of healthy, tasty options.

Choose your splurges.

Scan the buffet or dinner table and choose a couple holiday favorites to splurge on instead of foods that you can have any other day of the year. Tell yourself, “I can have that anytime I don’t need it now”.

Aim to cover half the plate with Fruits and Vegetables.

Choose drinks wisely. Don’t think you can’t have a tasty or alcoholic drink but try to stick to low calorie or calorie-free drinks. If you have alcohol put club soda or flavored water in your alcohol instead of juice or soda. If you have eggnog or a festive drink limit it to one.

Remember why you are there. You are there to visit the people, not the food. Move socializing away from the food to prevent mindless eating.

Say no to food pushers (politely). Do not let people pressure you into eating. It’s usually because it makes them feel better if someone is eating with them.

Savor seasonal treats. Having treats once a year will not make or break your weight. Make sure you take time to really taste and enjoy that special treat when you have it. You also do not have to eat the whole piece or the whole treat. Tell yourself “I know what this taste like I don’t need to eat the whole thing”.

Eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed. No one likes that awful, stuffed feeling after a meal. Eat slowly, and ask yourself if you are full before you go for seconds. Remember there are always leftovers! We just don’t stop if the food is in front of us but most of the time we are not even hungry anymore.

Don’t feel guilty. If you did overindulge, don’t beat yourself up. Just make sure your next meal is healthy, and be sure to incorporate exercise into your routine. It’s always a new day.

Offer to bring a healthy dish along that you will eat.

Pick very little on unhealthy foods and eat more of what you brought. If you have a sweet treat, try to stay away from carbs (like potatoes and bread) during the meal. Carbs and sugar are what stores fat. Do not have both, carbs and sugar in the same meal.

Don’t skip meals to save up for a feast.

It will be harder to manage your blood sugar, and you’ll be really hungry and more likely to overeat.

If you slip up, get right back on track the next day.

Don’t fall into a slump. Wake up and make it a new start.

Do some physical activity everyday even it it’s just walking for 30 minutes.

When you face a spread of delicious holiday food, make healthy choices easier by having a small plate of the foods you like best and then move away from the buffet table. Eat slowly. It takes at least 20 minutes for your brain to realize you’re full. No food is on the naughty list.

Choose the dishes you really love and can’t get any other time of year. Slow down and savor a

small serving, and make sure to count it in your meal plan.

You’ve got a lot on your plate this time of year, and physical activity can get put on the back shelf. Being active is your secret holiday weapon; it can help make up for eating more than usual and reduce stress during this most stressful time of year. Get moving with friends and family, such as taking a walk after a holiday meal.

Going out more and staying out later often means cutting back on sleep. Sleep loss can make it harder to manage your blood sugar. When we don’t get enough sleep we tend to eat more sugary foods. Try to get seven to eight hours of sleep per night.

Most of all, remember what the season is about. It’s about celebrating and connecting with the people you care about. Focus more on the fun, not on the food.

The Passing of Giants

Over the last few months, the State of Rhode Island lost two giants of the retail industry. These two gentlemen were my heroes. I knew both of them, and whenever I got the opportunity to interact with them, I considered myself to be in the company of legends. These men were fixtures in the menswear business, and even more, were part of the fabric of the city of Providence. Their passing has left a big void in the city. These men had a larger than life aura about them. Over the last fifty years that I was in retail, customers would mention them to me time and time again. I don’t think these gentlemen ever knew the awe and respect that the general public had for them. They were part of the fabric that gave Providence the reputation of being a Mecca for men’s clothing. These men were Briggs Doherty Jr, and Tony Conte.

Briggs and Tony were, among other things, in the custom suit business. Briggs was a larger than life character. He should have been born at the turn of the 20th century, as he would have been very comfortable in the 1920’s with a mink coat and a Stutz Bearcat. He was the spitting image of Clarke Gable in Gone With The Wind, right down the mustache and aura of confidence about him. I first met him around 1974. I was in the women’s clothing business then and had stores in Wayland Square and garden City. One night I was in the Garden City store up on a latter changing a fluorescent light bulb. This distinguished looking man walked into the store looked at the clothing and said to the young lady who was working with me that night, “I know your stuff is crap, but I need to buy something for

my wife’s birthday”. My first thought was who the hell is this guy, but one good look at his face and I just knew. I said “Your Briggs Doherty”. He replied, “Who are You?” I told him. A big smile came over his face. He came up to me extended his hand, and said It is always nice to meet a fellow retailer. We talked for a while, we became fast friends, and he bought some nice outfits that night for his wife, told be how great my clothing really was, and left.

I remember the first time I met Tony Conte. I had just opened up Franklin Rogers Ltd, and Tony came in to congratulate me. I told him that we would never compete with him. As long as he was around, I would never go into the custom suit business. I remember the first time I went to his shop on Peck Street. I remember the old circular stairway. It was a trip into the past. I was mesmerized by the bolts of fine quality fabric and linings. He showed me completed suits, and I was so impressed with level of workmanship. He was an old school craftsman from Italy, the best of the best. Over the years we would visit each other often, and always enjoyed the comradery.

In the last few years, we have entered into the custom suit business. The business has changed dramatically in the last few years.

Clothes are now designed digitally, they are hand sewn all over the work, and the availability of fabric is much more than it used to be. We have our own custom suit designer, Nathan Viveiros, who manages our custom suit department. He can design you a one of a kind suit, within your budget, and actually show you a picture of it as you pick your style, fabric, and options. Lighthouse Skatepark: Indoor Fun On Wheels

Rhode Island has many great skateparks but none of them are indoors. Ben and Elizabeth Lane wanted to remedy that, and soon their plan was launched. On July 4th, 2020, Lighthouse Skatepark opened to the public at 881 Main Street Pawtucket. Located inside the Creative Commerce Center, a 4500 square foot space provides room for the skatepark and a library; that’s right…a library.

The Lanes believe that education is very important and is an essential element to a joyful life. They wanted to offer local youth the incentive to read and use critical thinking skills in exchange to skateboard for free.

Skateboarding is a fun activity for all ages, male and female. Many people don’t find it very accessible because you commonly have to learn it on your own; people are also afraid of falling. Lighthouse Skatepark is hoping to bridge the gap between skateboarders and would-be skateboarders by providing them with a safe environment to learn in. They offer private sessions, lessons, memberships, summer camp, one hour drop in and skate sessions for $5; their personal favorites are Read To Skate and Chess To Skate. These are programs where kids can read or play chess for twenty minutes earning themselves 40 minutes to skate for free, helmet, skateboard, and lesson included.

Although the programs are geared towards kids, the age group that has been attracted to the indoor skate park has ranged from 5-52.

Generally, it’s been kids in the day and young adults later in the evening. On the weekends, families come out and people of all skill levels are skating. With the winter upon us, they are expecting to see an increase in activity at Lighthouse Skatepark as skaters seek an indoor alternative. And of course, everyone has enough room to keep a safe distance. COVID-19 rules are all in place and being followed. The pandemic has been hard on the Lanes and their business but they pushed forward and made it happen.

Ben explained, “Finding the balance between promoting our business and trying to keep the customer threshold below state mandates, has definitely adversely affected our bottom line and our spirits. If we didn’t think we were helping people, we wouldn’t have opened at all.” He went on to explain, “We are starting to rely heavily on fundraising efforts, and it’s our hope that the generosity of others will sustain the skatepark and library until winter hits and people are more consistently drawn to an indoor skating alternative.

A quick stop by their website will reveal an easy to read daily schedule of events for members and non-members. Book a session online or call with any questions you may have. No bikes are allowed but you can use skateboards, scooters, free skates and rollerblades. A session costs $20 for up to ten people and that includes access to the park, library, boardgames, Bluetooth speaker, skateboards and helmets. Session add-ons include lessons for individuals or groups, video recording of session, photographed sessions, arts and crafts, and even make your own skateboard deck! How cool!

Ben and Elizabeth and their kids are skaters of all levels. They truly love the sport and encourage you to come give it a try. Their Facebook page mentions, “First you crawl, then you walk, then you run, then you skate, and finally…you ollie.”

A New Look to Year-End Tax Planning in 2020

return. At that level, most people claim a standard deduction rather than itemizing deductions. In 2020, you can claim an additional $300 for cash contributions to qualified charities. Be sure to take advantage of that opportunity before the end of the year. This is a one-time deduction for those who don’t itemize.

TAKE EARLY WITHDRAWALS IF NEEDED If your financial circumstances have been directly af affected by COVID-19 (such as a job loss), or you or others in your household have been diagnosed with the virus, you can tap your retirement savings. If you have not yet reached age 59-1/2, you can do so without penalty if you qualify, but the early distribution must occur before the end of the year. The tax burden associated with these early distributions can be spread out over three years.

HARVEST INVESTMENT GAINS OR LOSSES

At this time of year, you often hear advice to take steps before year-end to limit your tax liability. Yet 2020 is a unique year in a variety of ways – while many of the normal rules regarding managing income and timing deductions still apply, new provisions for 2020 have been implemented by The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act that may impact your year-end tax planning. Consider if any of these actions make sense for you.

RECONSIDER REQUIRED DISTRIBUTIONS Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from workplace retirement plans or IRAs are optional due to The CARES Act in 2020. If you haven’t yet taken your RMD for this year, you can let your money continue to grow.

If you have taken your RMD, there is a 60-day window where you can redeposit those funds in your IRA and eliminate the claim to an RMD. As another option, if you have earned income from work you may want to take all or part of your RMD for this year and invest some or all of the proceeds in a Roth IRA. This allows you to build up your Roth savings, which ultimately can qualify for tax-free distributions later in retirement and aren’t subject to RMD rules.

When I launched my television program entitled “Fur, Fins and Feathers” two years ago, I never realized never in my wildest dreams this show would be so successful.

Most people of all ages love animals so once the show was launched (Brian Lowney - You Tube, Fur, Fins and Feathers), viewers from Southern New England, the Midwest, and Europe began to watch the twice-monthly broadcasts and learn about various canine breeds, horses, iguanas, alpacas, goats, rabbits, cockatiels, felines and so much more. I have produced 53 episodes in the studios at Swansea Access Television and plan to continue to educate and entertain viewers about the enrichment and enjoyment that animals bring to our lives.

My interest in dogs began in 1980 with the purchase of a Kerry Blue terrier, an enthusiastic Irish breed that I owned and exhibited for many years. I began judging Junior Showmanship several years later and now serve as the Vice President of the Rhode Island Kennel Club.

Author Robert Hyldburg, Jr. recounts some of the most interesting moments of New England’s pro football team in his new book.

Bob Hyldburg worked for thirteen years as a photographer for the NFL for every home game of the New England Patriots and has written two books on the Patriots. He is known in the press room and on Twitter as @BobtheStatMan. “Hyldburg is the master of the odd moment and a historian without peer. If there is an arcane statistic or an esoteric incident in Patriots history, Bob not only has the story, he has the story behind the story,” said Ron Borges, Pro Football Hall of Fame contributor and sportswriter.

Hyldburg’s new book, “Reliving Patriots History” recounts hundreds of iconic moments and fun facts of the 1,268 men, who have played for the Patriots, even if their entire career was in just one game. “Hyldburg probably knows the history of the Patriots better than anyone has ever known the history of any sports franchise,” says Sean Glennon, football historian and author of five books of the Patriots.

“Reliving Patriots History” is Hyldburg’s second book. His first, “Total Patriots,” recounts the first 49 years of the history, and would have been published sooner if they had gone undefeated in 2007. In that 802-page tome, Hyldburg provides a wealth of knowledge and facts that probably should have been broken into four books instead of just one. It continues to be sold around the globe, and in fact, has traveled with our great service men and women to many countries.

One serviceman shared that he could only pack 50 pounds of gear while being transferred to Korea and he chose to take this five-pound book with him. Bob wants to highlight his enormous gratitude for everyone else in the military for their service.

“Total Patriots” is prominently displayed at the Patriots Hall of Fame at Patriot Place, and much of the information in his new “Relive Patriots History” book can be found in the newly installed Patriots All Time Roster interactive display on the 3rd floor.

“It is totally worth the time to travel to Foxboro to visit this award winning Hall of Fame. You will be there for hours,” he said.

Brown eventually broke into the lineup as a wide receiver and was even used as a defensive back, where he recorded three interceptions and had a very critical forced fumble in a playoff game against the San Diego Chargers. He is referred to as ‘Mr. Patriot’ for his can-do, positive attitude and execution. That drive and playmaking ability earned Brown a place in the New England Patriots Hall of Fame.

How Cold is TOO Cold to Paint Outside?

One of the questions that I can bank on getting overwhelmed with like clockwork at certain periods of the year is, “How cold is TOO cold to paint outside?”

If you were to ask this question of almost any painter, contractor, paint supplier, and the like, you would most likely get very similar (although possibly slightly different) responses.

I think our company is a bit unique when answering this question because of the type of warranty we provide.

if the daytime high is projected to be 35-40 and long term (3+ days) overnight lows are projected to be above 15 degrees, we are beyond ok conducting our exterior painting work.

What?!?! Why - this must be SACRILEGIOUS!!!!!

How dare I suggest that you can paint outside when it is below 40 degrees?? Sorry, not sorry (as the modern hip saying goes), but this is what we have found to be the threshold. Any painter, contractor, supplier (heck, even any chemist) can try to debate with me all they want.

The “proof is in the pudding,” however.

We are the only company I know of in our area that has been in business at least as long as we have been (over 25 years) and guarantees our work for 5 years after it is completed – this includes exterior painting on non-horizontal surfaces.

In other words, unless it’s a deck, porch floor, or anything else that rain or snow can sit on for extended periods of time, we warranty it for a 5-year period after we are done. It is not unusual for people to look at me a bit odd when they find this out, given the fact that we live in New England and our weather is so temperamental.

Rapid, drastic fluctuations in weather conditions are not uncommon in New England, and in order to honor our work as we promise, we have had to develop systems over time that align appropriately with this volatility.

Most painters, contractors, and suppliers would probably say that they would prefer temps to be in the fifties (Fahrenheit) when painting.

I appreciate their thoughts.

Most painters, contractors, and paint suppliers on the other hand, do not own companies that have been in business for over 25 years and carry 5-year warranties on their exterior painting projects (in New England!).

It is actually really that simple.

We have had the awesome opportunity to paint the exteriors, literally, of hundreds and hundreds of homes over the past 25+ years, and a good portion of them have been at time periods of the year when temperatures have not been in-line with what many would visualize as being “ok” to do so in.

Utopically, with the products we utilize, we like to see daytime temps in the 40s (Fahrenheit) when painting exteriors – though

With the volume of work that we do on the exterior painting side of things when the temps are in the 40s or slightly below, I don’t think we could comfortably continue to warranty these projects the way we do, if we couldn’t deliver on our promise.

I have to admit though, I do find it comical when someone who has never painted a day in their life (or on a regular basis with the systems that we have longtime utilized) attempts to dictate to one of our job site managers that it is too cold outside to paint.
