The redesign of the Dike East Park in Fargo aimed to provide a space for community gatherings and events while also incorporating natural elements to create a connection with the surrounding environment. The amphitheater was designed to be a focal point of the pgpppark, providing a space for outdoor concerts and performances. The two active uses were designed to accommodate sports and recreational activities, while the two passive uses were intended to be areas for quiet reflection and relaxation. The main building was designed to house restrooms, park maintenance, and rental space for events. The parking areas were designed to meet the required standards for accessibility, including regular and handicap parking spaces. The park was also designed with sustainable features such as permeable pavers, drought-resistant plants, and rain gardens to manage stormwater runoff.





The design of the park was meant to provide a beautiful and scenic destination in the fall, with the added bonus of a Farmers Market and live music events. The choice of vegetation was carefully considered to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the park, and create an inviting atmosphere for visitors to spend their day. By incorporating these features, the park not only becomes a visual treat, but also an active hub of community events, adding to its overall value and appeal.



This approach was chosen to help with the drainage issues at the site and to also provide a method of watering the vegetation without having to rely solely on manual watering. The use of the planters and grading of the hill helps to create a visually interesting space while also addressing practical concerns such as water management. The open mesh design of the planters also adds to the aesthetic by allowing the trees and other vegetation to be seen from different angles and perspectives.

The series of graphics showcases the conceptualization, design development and implementation process of the planter component in the park. The objective was to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing design that not only served its purpose of water drainage and tree irrigation but also added to the overall beauty of the park. The final design was the result of a thorough design process, incorporating the practical aspects as well as the aesthetic considerations.
