AI Governance Rules The rules I hold my teams to. Which system handles which work. What every deliverable discloses. How slop stays out.

AI drafted. First pass by Claude from Andrew Hillman's notes. Verifier: Andrew Hillman.

Which system, when 1. Is the reader relying on my judgment?

Yes

FDA sign-off, consent language, court filings, any number an investor sees.

No AI. Stop here. A person writes it. A person signs it. No draft, no edit, no research pass.

No

2. Does it touch confidential data?

Yes

Patient records, PI case files, unreleased regulatory drafts, investor financials.

Local model on hardware we own. Ollama or MLX on Apple Silicon. The data stays on our metal.

No

3. Repetitive job with a checkable output? Outbound campaign builds, data cleanup, document assembly.

Yes

Agent framework. Claude Code, tool-calling pipelines. Every run leaves a log for human audit.

No

4. Everything else Strategy memos, first drafts, code, research synthesis. Reasoning quality is the bottleneck.

Frontier hosted model. Claude, GPT, Gemini. Only when the data is not confidential.

Every deliverable carries one of three labels

Label 1

Label 2

Label 3

Human written

AI assisted

AI drafted

No AI in drafting or editing.

A person wrote it. A model edited or researched. A person verified every fact and citation.

A model produced the first draft from a human outline. A person rewrote and verified it.

The label names the tool. The label names the verifier. If the content contains a citation, a statute, or a dollar figure, a named person checked it against the primary source.

Slop is unverified content, not AI content The test: if nobody on your team will defend a sentence to a regulator, a judge, or an investor, delete the sentence.

The model fills a structure you own.

Against the primary source. PMID, CFR section, docket number.

If it sounds like everyone else's post, it is.

The rule under the rules

AI is a drafting engine. Judgment stays with the person accountable for the outcome.
