TRAVEL with an ARCHITECT This is an online photo report of the places me and some friends have visited around the world and which are worth seeing. The project can pe followed on instagram @TRAVELwithanARCHITECT
MORE ABOUT ME I am passionate about technology and technological innovations, and also equally fascinated by architectural heritage. I enjoy very much to discover and admire historic buildings, as they always have a unique beauty and an interesting story to tell. Sadly though, many of them are very poorly conserved, and their restoration often require the latest technics and technologies. So i like to believe the two passions are very well connected. Because of the interest in architectural heritage and in architecture in general, I have also developed a hobby for travelling. It all started with the study trips organized by the faculty to Turkey and Switzerland. After that, alongside other friends, we started discovering and visiting historic building all around Romania, and that is how we started the project TRAVEL with an ARCHITECT, project that is actually a photo report of places worth seeing. Currently I am looking to expand the search for great architecture all around the world, discover new fascinating places and interesting people that share my passions and interests.

Vanke Mix-Use Competition China, Shenzhen | 2018
position|project architect type |commercial, office & soho phase |concept design area |350.000 m2
The main challenge of this project was to create an accessible commercial space well connected to the city and the future development plan of the area. As a result, the vegetation aisle which was planned to cross our site had a crucial role in developing the design, as it carved our main volume the same way in nature a river erodes a mountain in it’s path. Responsibilities: team leader for concept design, facade design, landscape design, architectural illustration

Foshan Nanhai Hotel China, Foshan| 2016
position|senior architect type |hospitality & commercial phase |under construction area |35.000 m2
The site of the project is situated in Foshan, China, in an area with beautiful landscape, close to a lake and surrounded by green hills. The first challenge was to use the full potential of the site when designing the layout of the masterplan. We managed to do this by alternating main functions along the waterfront. This way, both the hotel and the commercial benefit from the direct relationship with the lake, and the mix of functions on the site create an even distribution of activities. Responsibilities: concept design, facade design, landscape design, architectural illustration, video presentation

Panyu Library Competition China, Guanzhou| 2016 position |senior architect type |library competition phase |concept design area |16.700 m2
The library’s design takes its roots from the local culture, and more specifically from the Daliang Village Complex, which is one of the most significant historical heritages from the area. As a result, our new building borrows a few key elements like the curved line of the roof and the white solid walls with small window openings . These were combined with new technologies and materials like the media façade and which together are subject to modern principles of sustainability. Responsibilities: concept design, facade design, architectural illustrations

Hotel Renovation
China, Lianyungang | 2016 position |project architect type |hospitality phase |completed area |7.500 m2
The goal of this project was to come with a new fresh design for an already existing hotel. The approach was a modern one, but not without paying attention that were dealing with a space where people will have to spend live. Therefore, we used warm colors and materials in the design in order to achieve a cosy feeling and offer the future guests the highest level of comfort.

Qipao Town Competition China, Wujiang | 2016 position |project architect type |mix use phase |concept design area |45.000 m2
The concept of the main buildings is inspired from the cocoon structures spun by silk larvae, in an attempt to protect themselves while they evolve. One of the stages of the Qipao dress is determined by a simple insect which is capable of creating a strong and amazing material. Our Idea was to use the cocoon shape in order to highlight the importance of this small creature, by using it’s principles of silk web design. There are also main lines which anchor the cocoon, which we used for pedestrian lines and the outer shell which hardens in time and is strong as an outer shell.

Private Club I 2015 China, Beijing
position |project architect type |office & commercial phase |completed area |2.000 m2
The requirements for this building were to create sales offices for a new residential complex with a private and exclusivist design. In order to achieve this, we opted for a symmetrical composition, a facade with repetitive elements to create rhythm and a feeling of monumentality. Moreover, the building and the small yard are separated by the public area with an imposing fence and they are accessible through a main gate with a large floating canopy.

BBQ Shaoyang Commercial China, Shaoyang | 2015
position|senior architect type |commercial + office phase |concept design area |42.000 m2
For this large commercial project the approach was to create an interesting and visually appealing facade towards the street in order to attract the public and invite them inside. The big stone walls that offer the building stability and strength are alternated with large glass curtain walls that basically mark the entrances and other special spaces of the complex. What’s more, the smart use of landscape and lighting design is creating a real spectacle for the guests to enjoy and encourage them to return for the experience.

Vanke Commercial River China, Changsha| 2015 position |senior architect type |commercial phase |concept design area |12.800 m2
The main idea for this project is based on the landscape team concept of the stones in a river. This is why the whole layout of the plan is organic and asymmetrical. To emphasize the concept, the small commercial buildings with irregular shape are finished mostly in stone material, while the flow of people among them, as the main dynamic element, will represent the river.

KYMS Office Facade China, Shanghai | 2015
position|senior architect type |office phase |concept + schematic design area |15.000m2
For this project we had to redesign the facade of an existing building in Shanghai and the goal was to obtain a new and modern feeling without major interventions on the structure and openings. In the end, the main concept was to create a sandwich-like design by alternating bright colored sides of the building with dark color tones ones. Moreover, the dark sides also present carefully positioned glazed boxes that break the monotony of the existing small openings and create a much more appealing view.

Vanke Sales Office China, Changsha | 2014
position|senior architect type |office & commercial phase |completed area |6500 sqm
The sales office always needs a special design to differentiate itself from the other buildings and be the main point of attraction in a new complex. In order to achieve that, we created a dynamic facade that catches everyone’s eye through the sharp cuts of the facade during the day. Also, during the night the building gets noticed through the special lighting effect created by the perforated boards on the facade.

Vanke Sports Commercial China, Changsha| 2014 position|senior architect type |commercial phase |concept design area |16.000 m2
This project is based on the fluidity and accessibility of the space for the public. The main elements to achieve this are the inter-connected floating terraces. Functionally speaking, they act as multiple squares that increase the public space in the area, and visually they contribute to the dynamic facade making the building very easy to recognize and remember.

Vitraj Premium Lounge Romania, Bacau | 2013 position|project architect type |restaurant & bar phase |completed area |200mp
The project started with the beneficiary’s desire to create an extension for an existing pizzeria in the Gepex Park Complex in Bacau. Simultaneously a project was carried out for the parking, which has been for us an opportunity to create a dialogue between the two areas. The opening of the new building towards the green space was achieved by glazing on three sides. We opted for sliding doors that once opened it is created a strong bond between the interior of the building and the exterior setting.

Year |3rd year Type |part 1 - team project part 2 - individual project Location |Bucharest, Romania Program |housing, public space, commerce The project was divided in 2 stages: first we had to generate the architectural concept based on the urban study and the constraints analysis of the area, and then each of us had to choose and detail one module. We thought at the concept of living and how one of the main challenges is keeping the relationship with nature. This is why, the main element of the project is the courtyard. Besides the main courtyard of the complex, each apartment has a large balcony resembling the traditional yard of a house.

UAUIM | 2012
Year |5th year Type |part 1 - team project part 2 - individual project Location |Bucharest, Romania Program |public space, library, concert hall, restaurant The fundamental idea of the project is to create a cultural center by conversion of the industrial patrimony. To do this, first we made an urban, social and economical study of the area and suggested the most relevant functions for the site. After that, I evaluated the existing buildings from the site and discovered the most valuable elements that should be conserved, and tried to integrate them in the new project.

UAUIM | 2012 Year Type Location Program
|5th year |team project |Bucharest, Romania |public space, library, concert hall, restaurant
Tensegrity, tensional integrity or floating compression, is a structural principle based on the use of isolated components in compression inside a net of continuous tension, in such a way that the compressed members (usually bars or struts) do not touch each other and the prestressed tensioned members (usually cables or tendons) delineate the system spatially. The term tensegrity was coined by Buckminster Fuller in the 1960s as a portmanteau of “tensional integrity. We used the tensegrity icosahedron, discovered by Buckminster Fuller in 1949, as a module for our complex spatial structure. Finally, we made a 1:1 model which was basically an exibit for other students to interact with during a period of one month.

organizer |Maria Tibanesti Association & Styrcea Family type |course & workshop responsibilities |learn & help with the restoration of the wooden doors & frames School of Bunesti is a school-site for student architects and more. It takes place every summer since 2008, in a clearing in the Valsan Valley in Arges Country. Working exclusively with natural materials, the school is exploring the potential of traditional techniques, learning from vernacular architecture and applying it to current needs, with no desire to imitate or innovate at all costs. Over the past years, the purpose of the workshops was an obvious one: to reveal meanings that the use of local natural materials send to the act of building and to the building itself.
