Flores são muitas vezes utilizadas como representação de carinho e recordação de alguém, no entanto, depois da morte as flores naturais são muitas vezes substituídas por artificiais. Aparentemente frescas e coloridas, esta falsa vida não precisa de alimento, amor ou atenção, mas a necessidade que temos de mostrar que esse alguém é recordado leva-nos a usar este símbolo antagónico.

Flowers are often used as a representation of affection and remembrance, however, after death natural flowers are sometimes replaced by artificial ones. Fresh looking and colorful, this false life does not need nourishment, love or attention, but the need we have to show that that someone is remembered leads us to use this antagonistic symbol.

The use of flowers on graves is one of the oldest forms of memorial, with records since 62,000 BC, representing all aspects of the life cycle and as a symbol of human frailty, however, only from the late nineteenth century did it become a habit. The fascination

Actualmente a importância deste culto mantém-se nos nossos cemitérios sendo mais comum a presença de flores artificiais. Especialmente em regiões com uma grande exposição solar, compreende-se a razão de por vezes se escolher um substituto mais durável. uma última recordação como um tributo constante a quem lá habita e que ficará para além da sua memória viva.

A dedicação que temos com os nossos mortos leva-nos, mesmo com o actual modo de vida, a sentir alguma estranheza ao ver uma campa sem flores, sendo que estas parecem ser, de alguma forma, uma companhia a quem já partiu. Mas o que nos leva a achar que esta representação ausente é melhor que uma campa vazia?

Idilicamente desejamos que a memória seja eterna, no entanto nada é, nem a memória ou as flores artificiais que colocamos a simbolizar essa ideia.

The dedication we have with our dead leads us, even with the current way of life, to feel some awkwardness when we see a grave with no flowers, as they seem to, somehow, be a company to the departed.

But what makes us think that this absent representation is better than an empty grave?

Idyllically we want memory to be eternal, however nothing is, neither memory nor the artificial flowers we leave to symbolize this idea.
