TRAVEL with an ARCHITECT This is an on-line photo report of the places that I have visited around the world and which are worth seeing. The project can be followed on instagram @TRAVELwithanARCHITECT
2017 - present
ZWARTpro™ | Travel & Photography Gear This is both a brand and product development project. Starting a brand from scratch included: Idea generation; Research and development; Testing; Analysis; Rollout; The final stage in new product and service development was rolling it out to the market. Promoting the product through marketing and advertising to help make the launching a success.
MORE ABOUT ME What I must say in the first place about me is that I am very passionate about traveling, discovering traditional buildings, people and places all this closely related with my passion about photography. This is why I have started a project called “ Travel with an Architect ” which is actually a photo report of the places I have visiteed. The mission of the project is to make people realize they are surrounded by unique things as for example buildings, landscapes or eaven traditions that worth of being rememberd and transmited from generation to generation. The more we know about our traditions we can get a better understanding of who we are and as architects eaven if we design for the present and for the future we have to do it with an awarness of the past. My interaction with design started in a small town in Europe. In 2007 I moved in the capital city in order to attend the most prestigious Architecture and Urban Planning University in the country. After 4 years in school I started my first job as a junior architect, while I went on with my studies. Two more years later, I was the proud owner of a Master Degree, but unfortunately in an environment still affected by the economic crisis, with little to no activity in the construction business. As I wasn’t ready to abandon my dream for practicing architecture, I started searching opportunities where the big things were happening at that moment. This is how I arrived in Shanghai, China, just half a year after graduation.
The cultural and language barrier was something both challenging yet rewarding for me to overcome. I soon started taking Chinese lessons and HSK exams, I started to embrace some local habits and cultural elements and managed to make Shanghai my home for the next 6 years. During this time, I got the chance to collaborate with 2 companies, working around 3 years with each of them. Most of the projects that I joined there were at a scale that I couldn’t have dreamed to find in Europe, and at a pace that forced me to always organize and work better and faster. Still hungry for knowledge, I also managed to travel to Cambridge, USA, and attend Harvard GSD Executive Education courses for 3 years in a raw, courses about Hotel Project Development, Real Estate Fundamentals and Digital Buildings. Now, after 8 years of working and constantly interacting with Design and Architecture, I plan to make my step towards a new working environment here in Hong Kong. I truly believe that the lifestyle here is exactly what I’m looking for right now, and I’m confident I’ll find a great team of people to join and grow together. Below you can find my Portfolio. If you feel I would be a good fit in your team, I would be more than happy to discuss with you more and find the perfect way for us to collaborate. And of course, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me! Thank you again for taking the time to go through my resume!

WOOD PAVILION
Shanghai, China | 2014 position|architect type |showroom phase |completed area |800 m2 The project is located in Minhang District, Shanghai, China. It’s a showroom and management office for the entire industrial office park. We design the building as a piece of paper floating above the water ,only touching the ground in two points. The building has a simple structure system : A: 900mm high concrete base, which can protect the wood from the rain and water. B: wood bent structure with 3.6 meters distance. C: two way folded roof with skylight. The wood columns take the vertical load, and a solid concrete core takes the horizontal load. The core is operated as a precise machine: carve the solid volume by the circulation, function and the view. We also combine the different functions with the concrete base according to the locations: can be a showcase, cabinet, coffee bar or even a sofa lounge. In two corners where the roof goes to the ground there is double height space. We put Electric skylight above ,which allows light into these spaces and also improve the ventilation. The whole building is a wood pavilion with a clear logic, thus we treat the interior design in a simple way: expose the original concrete, wood, steel materials and the joint as much as possible. Only hide the lights and equipments.

Gouding Office
Shanghai, China | 2014 position|senior interior architect type |office space phase |completed area |1300 m2 year |2014
Project Overview The project is located on Guoding Road, Yangpu District, Shanghai. The actual area is about 1300 square meters. The original design of Tongzhou Building is: five floors above ground. Before redesign, the building was mainly used as office space and hotel. The first stage of this project was the facade reconstruction and then the interior decoration design. Apart from preserving the original structure and satisfying the functional needs in the office, we also added some bold spaces where people can think quietly. Taking the public working area as the core, we created functional areas to inject new vitality.

Vanke Office Reconversion Shanghai, China | 2016
position|senior architect type |interior design, landscape phase |schematic design area |20000 m2 year |2016 Project Overview The project is located 1.6 km from Disneyland, 500 meters from Kangxin Highway Station of Metro Line 11; it belongs to Zhangjiang Kangqiao, with a total area of 20442.57m². Initially, all the 11 builings were built as office spaces but the owner later decided to change the function into apartments for young people due to the proximity to Disneyland in Shanghai. Our design scope was to create a common area for the people living in the apartments located on the site. The pedestrian walkway in the center can be used to set up a “rain promenade” to direct the flow of people from other buildings to buildings 8 and 9 so that people can use their public space.

Hongqiao WELLarch Office China, Shanghai| 2019
position|senior interior architect type |office phase |completed area |200 m2 year |2019
The main challenge of this project was the budget allocated by the client. So we had to try to get the maximum effect out of the minimum money invested. Also, the customer didn’t want a classic design, but one more suitable for young employees. As a result, we played with the textured paint color and some wallpapers in order to avoid the monotony of the space. We combined the standard furniture with the custom made pieces. Responsibilities: concept design team leader, interior design, construction site visits

Zhoushan B&B Villa China, Zhoushan| 2019 position|senior architect type |hospitality phase |completed area |1.500 m2 year |2019
Xiaowu Shitang Village is surrounded by mountains on three sides, facing the sea in the east, large mountains in the north, and Niunitang Mountain in the south. Although this two-story building is in a bad condition, it is quite different from the surrounding buildings. The strong vertical lines and small windows, as well as the small courtyard in front of the door, make it a unique in this area. The renovated B & B has a new name-40,000 roses. In the design concept, the characteristics and forms of the original building were almost retained, and white and black became the main theme; pure white, stone paths, wooden fences, and flowers of the family Rosaceae in the yard; The previous sloping roof was transformed into a resting platform, where you can enjoy the setting, feel the sea breeze, enjoy picturesque scenery, enjoy a leisurely life.

Shanxi, China | 2015 position|senior architect type |church phase |schematic design area |700m2 year |2015 The site is located at the foot of a beautiful mountain in Shanxi, surrounded by mountains on three sides and on the other side of the city. The natural resources are excellent; Site area is 1,400 square meters. The total construction area of the church is 700 square meters. Large steps are arranged in front of the main building, allowing people to directly enter the lobby and combine with the square to form the square’s iconic landscape. At the entrance of the main building, a 20-meter-tall tower expressing a spiritual symbol is arranged so that people can watch from a distance.

New Guggenheim Finland, Helsinki | 2016 position|senior architect type |museum phase |competition area |1500 m2 year |2016
Concept design for New Guggenheim Helsinki The new museum represents an important knob along the bay which will activate the whole linear open space and the city. It’s waterfront location would act as a welcome center for visitors all year round becomeing the central gathering place for city residents of all ages and a must see destination. Beeing an urban space of great national and cultural significance, it forms a symbolic gateway to the city from the sea. The conceptual transition between spaces is transposed into our architectural design by using the arch shape simbolizing the natural element and the frame which sits for the city’s urban profile. The goal is to create a public space that both welcomes new visitors and serves as a key cultural destination for the community The interior space is defined by the arch shape in an attempt to organize the basic museum programs and also to explore additional programmatic possibilities. The highest arch of the museum marks the main exhibit area and provides a flexible exhibition space.

Reinventing the Beijing Courtyards Beijing, China | 2016 position|senior architect type |exhibition area phase |competition area |150 m2 year |2016
BREATH IN & OUT The building is like a living organism and it has a life cycle: birth, growing, getting old, ill and dying. The renovation is meant to give a second life to the old building. The site is located in the Conservation Area. The design follows the city’s context, area requirements, roof and building heights and view control requirements. We insert three movable metal boxes into the old buildings, making the whole building flexible and changeable. The movable installation adapts to the different needs of usage like breathing in and out making it feel truly alive.
