who is NCT ?
NCT , an acronym for ‘Neo Culture Technology’, is a 26 member boy group under SM Entertainment. They are described as having an unlimited number of members and sub-units until late 2023 where it was announced that NCT Wish would be the last sub-unit of NCT, and no more members would be joining.
The group consists of members Taeyong, Taeil, Johnny, Yuta, Kun, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Mark, Xiaojun, Hendery, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Yangyang, Chenle, Jisung, Sion, Riku, Yushi, Jaehee, Ryo and Sakuya. NCT also promotes in different subunits. The current sub-units are NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV, NCT DoJaeJung and NCT Wish.

Pre-Debut
Before they offically debuted in 2016, majority of the NCT members were introduced as part of SM Rookies, a pre-debut training team created by SM Entertainment.
SM Rookies was created on Decemeber 2013. The first 2 members of NCT to be introduced were Taeyong and Jeno.
The rest of the members were introduced under SM Rookies until early January 2016.
Graduated members consists of trainees who have debuted into an SM Entertainment group or as soloists and are now full-fledged artists of their own right.

Rookies are trainees who are apart of the SM ROOKIES project. They are sorted according to the current year and their gender.

Debut Era (2016)
The first sub-unit to debut under NCT is called “NCT U”.
They debuted with 2 singles that are called “ The 7th Sense’ and “Without You”. Both were released on April 9 and 10 , 2016.
NCT U stands for “NEO CULTURE TECHNOLOGY UNITED”.
They are the main group of NCT and does not have fixed members. This means the line up keeps changing for every comeback, OST,or dance stage depending on who fits well with the song.
Introduction
NCT 127 is the second sub-unit of NCT. They were introduced on July 1, 2016.
This sub-unit is based in Seoul,Korea. The number 127 represents the longitude coordinates of Seoul.
It started off with 9 members which includes Taeil,Taeyong,Yuta,Jaehyun,Winwin,Mark,Haechan, and later added Johnny,Doyoung and Jungwoo.
On July 7,2016, they had their official debut with the title track called “Fire Truck”.
Their debut EP NCT#127 was released digitally on July 10,2016 and physically on July 11,2016.
Currently the members line-up are Taeil,Taeyong, Yuta,Jaehyun,Mark,Haechan, Johnny,Doyoung and Jungwoo.
Introduction
NCT Dream is the third sub-unit of NCT. They offically debuted on August 25,2016.
This sub-unit consists of Mark,Haechan,Jeno,Jaemin, Renjun,Chenle and Jisung
On August 24,2016, they had their first single called “Chewing Gum” and their debut stage on August 25,2016.
Introduction
Wayv is the fourth sub-unit of NCT based in China, making WAYV the first sub-unit in NCT based out of Korea,under SM Entertainment’s China Exclusive Label, Label V.
They offically debuted on January 17,2019 with the single album ”The Vision”. This sub-unit currently consists of Kun,Hendery,Xiaojun,Winwin,Ten and YangYang.
On May 10,2023, SM Entertainment and Label V officially announced that Lucas would be parting ways with both NCT and WAYV to pursue his individual endeavours.
Introduction
NCT DOJAEJUNG is the fix sub-unit from NCT as a whole who made their debut on April 17, 2023.
This sub-unit consists of Doyoung, Jaehyun and Jungwoo.
Introduction
NCT Wish is the sixth sub-unit of NCT. They were formerly known as NCT New Team formed through the survival show NCT Universe : LASTART.
This sub-unit consists of Sion,Riku,Yushi,Jaehee, Ryo and Sakuya.
They released a pre-debut single “Hands Up” on October 19,2023. And they offically debuted on February 21,2024. Their debut single is called “Wish” which was released on February 28,2024.
Throughout NCT’s whole career journey , they have received many projects and awards from the entertainment industry. NCT’s fandom “NCTZENS”, it can be found every where all around the world. They are a group of people that has amazing visuals and many artistic talents. Every few years since their debut in 2016, there were many additions to the team. In 2016, total they had 15 members which includes NCT 127 and NCT DREAM. The year after that, NCT 127 added 2 new members. So in 2017, the total number of NCT members was 17. Then through year 2018-2020, NCT has added 8 more members. Making the total number of NCT members 23 in 2020.

STRUGGLES AND CHALLENGES
The main struggles and challenges that NCT has faced in is interactions with obssesed/stalker fans or known in Korean as “sasaeng”. These fans either make phone calls to their personal phone numbers or they somehow dug out their full schedule especially with travelling overseas, These stalker fans will follow them around and even go with them on the same flight or even staying at the same hotel , so they could be closer to them.
There were instances where when some of the NCT members were on live stream on a platform called V Live, they were dialling their phones like at least 20 times.
These stalker fans not only do these things, there are many more scary things that they do to harm NCT.
One of the NCT members ‘Renjun” also have received messages from sasaeng which caused him to have panic disorder and anxiety. And it made him to go on hiatus for the time being. This also just happended recently too like back at the end of April.
Ever since their pre-debut to now , they have slowly built their legacy and impact . NCT stands for NEO CULTURE TECHNOLOGY,which is a simply a term that shows this group could have a limitless amount of members. But this infinite expansion concept has stopped after NCT WISH debuted back in January 2024.
The overall impact of NCT has impacted fans all over the world in terms of their music,genre,choreography,and even the members themselves has a strong impact on every fans lives.
NCT’s song genre has always been called “Noise Music” to K-Pop fans. The reason is due to it’s experimental and unconventional nature. Their music oftens has a mix of different sounds,tempos,style and also interesting musical elements. And not every fan will like it due to it’s expereimentl style of sounds and melody.
This concept is overall a very different from any other groups out there. It is innovative and pushing the genre barrier. NCT has always been known to constantly exploring new song territory and challenging the boundaries of K-POP. The willingness to take risks and combine unique elements into their music is what they are.
In short, I would say that NCT is a group of talented men that are willing to explore on different kind of music,choreography and even their lyrics.
