Since&Pianowasestablishedin2018,ourgoalhasalwaysbeento showcase&introducepeopletoamazingworksofmusic:tohighlight andguidelistenersaroundthestoriesthepiecescantell,theworldsthey cancreate,themoodstheycanevoke,andtheemotionstheycanstir withinus.
Musiccansovividlytransportustoanotherplace,whetheritexplicitly hasastoryornot.Butthisyear,weʼretakingtheidealiterally-witha weekofexceptionalmusicalworksthatarethemedaroundJourneys, physical&emotional.
Someoftheseworksmighthavebeenwrittenover150yearsago,orin countriesontheothersideoftheworld,yetthejourneystheytake,&the storiestheytell,arejustasfamiliarandsimilarastheups&downsthat weexperiencetoday-journeysoflove,heartbreak,adventure,longing &nostalgia.
Iʼmthrilled&humbledthatonceagainweʼreabletowelcomesome incrediblemusicianstoHuddersfieldtoperformatthisyearʼsfestival.So manyofthemhaveperformedalloverthecountry-eventheworld,in
someofthebiggesthalls&theatres,orwithsomeofthefinestmusical organisations.Manyofthemalsohappentolive,orhavegrownupin theNorth.
Weʼvealsoexpandedourperformancevenuesagain-thisyearkeeping everythinginthebeautifulColneValley-withwhatshouldbeavery excitingandatmosphericeventhappeningforthefirsttimeatZapato Brewing,andourPerformancePubtakingplacethisyearattheNorthof EnglandCentreforMusic&Arts,inMarsden.

DvorakʼsʻDumkyʼPianoTriowaswrittenayearbeforeheembarkedon anewlife,inanewjobinAmerica.Thepieceisrootedtohishomeland, withslavic-inspiredmelodies&harmonies,jumpingfrommoody& reflective,tolively&foot-tapping.
50yearslater,duringWW2,FrenchcomposerOlivierMessiaenwrote 'QuartetfortheEndofTime',whichwaspremieredinthecamphewas aprisonerin,onJanuary15th1941,infrontofabout400prisoners& guards.Themusicisincrediblypowerfulandpoignant,withequal momentsofdiscomfort,calm,frenzy&reflection,tension&resolutionsummarisinganewworld,foreverchangedbythebrutalityofpower andwar.

Inourefforttoencourage&promotethecontinuedappreciationof classicalmusic,threeyearsago&Pianoestablishedanannualschools recitaltour,deliveringclassicalmusicperformancestosecondaryschools aroundKirklees&Calderdale.Thisgivesstudentstheopportunityto experienceandinteractfirst-handwithprofessionalclassicalmusicians performingawiderangeofmusicfromJSBachtoJohnWilliams.
Lastyearweperformedtoaround1500studentsacrossKirklees& CalderdalefromEllandtoNewsome.Thefeedbackandengagementwe hadfromstudentswasamazing-listeningintentlytosongsperformedin foreignlanguages,askingquestionsaboutthemusic,andaboutthe professionandtheindustry.
