There’s nothing more basic than the elements that hold Mother Earth together and give perfection to the function of life on this planet. Air, earth, fire and water are such basic materials that we often overlook their fundamental importance to our well being and lives. Our environments are so overwhelmed with incoming distractions, new technologies, masses of media and information overloads, that our apathy towards the basic elements is increasing in a harmful way. This is detrimental to our evolution and spiritual growth.

However, the true mystic understands the importance and relevance as well as the historical legacy the elements impart to the esoteric student and this season we have woven them into this issue, our new class and hopefully back into your periphery so you can engage in a higher level of co-creation with this beautiful planet nature and the Divine.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE Happy Spring!

Although most of you see me weekly via zoom or YouTube, I want to take a moment to pause and connect directly with all our readers and members.I felt it was a good time to communicate the essence of my message beyond my role as the Head Reverend and President of Astara. During our classes and meditations we are so focused on the lesson at hand that the over reaching goals oftentimes get overlooked. I’ll use this space to engage the message of Astara’s direction through my personal commitment to the teachings.

First and foremost, my objective is to serve. That may sound altruist but I sincerely have dedicated myself, through my actions, studies, various roles and businesses, to the spreading of the Light. Through the promotion of understanding multiple religious and ancient wisdoms and pushing beyond all dogma to the appreciation of the best in all, I believe we can create the space to find out who we are personally and therefore contribute to the well-being of society as a whole. In this way the evolution of the individual, can bring, “heaven on earth”.

My aim is to nurture the natural capacity in all of us for empa thy and compassion and to guide in ways that help relieve human suffering -of course, to the best of my current abilities. I want to share my knowledge of the real use of the heart and the tremendous capac ity of Love for both your personal spiritual growth and societal spiritual growth by helping to ta p into the universal consciousness. By exposing the Inner Teachings of Astara in this time via our new Series and Modules, while maintaining the essence of the Book of Life Degree Lesson wisdo ms, I endeavor to be of service to all who come to Astara to seek their own Light and shine it brighte r into the world.

THE FOUR ELEMENTS AND THE “CHRISTED” SELF

The principle is as the higher substance, personified here as the Son of God- operates on the lower substance, personified here as the Son of man- the degree to which the lower is manifesting the One Substance is transmuted to a higher degree and the lower substance in turn becomes a higher. (Christlike)

The basic elements used by the Mystic are: earth, air, water and fire. In each of the elements the others are also found. (I and my Father are One). For instance, in air there is also moisture, or water, known as humidity. There is also fire in the air because light is present in the air, and the light and fire are one. Earth is to be found in the air as there are tiny electromagnetic particles everywhere in the atmosphere. Water, fire, air, earth, and so on through the elements. These four elements, when combined in an unusual manner, establish the difference between the Son of Man and the Son of God.

Consider it in this fashion: When the earthy seed is implanted in the water, or “the material sea,” then the process of transmutation upon the physical vibratory level begins. The Son of Man, or the physical vehicle is evolved. A physical form is thus created by father and mother.

Upon a higher and spiritual vibratory level, when the fiery spark becomes implanted in the maternal air, then the Divine Flame is the result-another and higher process of transmutation. The physical vehicle is created when the physical seed is implanted in the sea-the Son of Man. The spiritual nature bursts into its Divine Flame (or Philosopher’s Stone) when the inner spark becomes implanted in the airy substance-The Son of God.

LETS EXPERIMENT WITH THE 4 ELEMENTS

Become as relaxed as possible. Mentally concentrate upon the process of inner refinement. That you wish to absorb into the crucible of your being certain qualities which can be obtained from outer substances and which, upon being concentrated within your Self, begin the process of transmutation. In other words, that which is base in you is going to be subjected briefly to a refining process. Thus it will become “inner gold.”

(First you are going to attempt to acquire the qualities and properties present within earth.) Allow your hands to lie in your lap, palms upward, as though you were holding earth in them. Visualize the earthy substance or, if you wish, actually obtain a handful of earth for this experiment. Contemplate this bit of earth for a moment. If you are only visualizing that you hold it, try actually to feel that you hold the substance in your hands. Remember, there is enough atomic power in a handful of earth to furnish all the electricity needed by our largest city for years. This atomic power-Life Essence-was first discovered by the ancient alchemists.

Center your attention upon the earth, and mentally begin to question: What quality can this handful of earth give to me? What quality can I absorb from it? I can absorb the quality of stability; of fixity. “Ye are the salt of the earth!” The earth is that upon which the foundation of physical plane structures is placed… it is solid. Metals and minerals in all manner of precious gems are found in the earth. Their radiance and luster are qualities I can acquire as well as fixity and stability. As you contemplate the earth in your hands and let your thought dwell upon these qualities you will begin to absorb into your being all the properties which it contains. Remember: activity follows your thought! Continue to dwell upon these qualities, and the idea of your obtaining them from the earth, for a period of from thirty-seconds to several minutes. Discontinue when there is an indication of mental or physical strain.

Now direct your attention to air. What are the properties present in the atmosphere? Which of them can you absorb? Which do you wish to absorb? It is possible for you to absorb destructive properties of uncontrolled air. The air can be violent, a hurricane or or tornado, and bring death and destruction in its wake. It is possible for you to absorb these qualities of stagnant air-air that is motionless. However, you do not direct your attention to them and therefore are not inwardly attuned to them. Instead you think of the trade winds which are in constant movement. As they perpetuate their currents through the atmosphere they carry with them the warmth which helps to bring greater life, a sense of peacefulness… the touch of the gods themselves. You are going to absorb these qualities from the air which exists all about you, from the air which you continuously breath. By the breath is suggested other qualities which you may absorbconstancy and rhythm. As the trade winds blow, they do so with constancy and rhythmic regularity. Thus you absorb the qualities of constant, fluid and rhythmic movement.

Thus as you bring the finer qualities of the atmosphere into the earth body you inhabit, you help bring the quality of life and spiritual attainment to your soul. Consider these ideas as you breathe slowly and easily, concentrating upon the regularity of your breath. Do this for a period of time similar to that in which you absorbed qualities from the earth.

Now let us continue to the third of the elements. As scriptural incident, also symbolic of the alchemical art, is important here. John the Baptist said: I indeed baptize you with water…but he that cometh after me…shall baptize you…with fire. Remember that fire is present in water, but in that element water is predominant. Through the use of your imagination feel yourself completely immersed in water. Sense that through all the porous openings of your physical body you are absorbing the qualities of

water. You are in the deeps which carry a tremendous potency. As you imagine yourself in these greater depths you become conscious of greater and greater pressure being exerted upon you. You are acquiring a spiritual power which is absorbed from the element of water. It is a cleansing power. Concentrate upon this for the same period of time already established with the other elements.

Now to the fourth element, that of fire. In the element of fire, air and water are also present, but fire predominates, and fire is symbolic of the higher and more spiritualized vibratory level. It is not a consuming flame. Now, sense that you are becoming immersed in a flame. The outer surface of this flame serves as a protective element. It will burn and consume everything not in vibratory harmony with it. It is a protection to you and allows nothing to approach you which is not in harmony with your nature. The inner portion of the flame passes throughout your being and refines all that is present there. It spiritualizes every element of your being and causes it to be elevated to a higher vibratory level of expression. It is a flame without heat. This is the Universal Solvent. Anything placed in it is reduced immediately to its basic atomic structure. Thus you are immersed in the

Alkahest, or Universal Solvent, everything in you that is incompatible with its nature is rejected. On the other hand, every quality and attribute in you that is compatible is accepted by it, is spiritualized, strengthened, and made a more expressive part of your nature. As you become immersed in fire you become a Son of Fire, a Son of God. You incorporate into your being all the qualities of fire. They are protective qualities which refuse to accept anything not compatible with their own higher vibratory nature. They are qualities of Light, or of Astral Light, which is another name for the Light of Wisdom. A consideration of this element does not, suddenly and by itself, make you wise. But the absorption of the vibratory essences of this element, through your own powers of mental direction, activate that portion of your inner nature which is capable of expressing wisdom. This process of activation will take place over an extended period of time, and as you periodically direct your thought to these ideas you become more alert to all the divine potentialities present within your Self. You become more fully capable of expressing the wisdom you possess and that which you may draw from the Universal Storehouse of Wisdom.

Undertaking the process described above, absorbing the qualities of the four elements, serves to stimulate in the crucible of your being those elements which are harmonious with those upon which you concentrate your attention.

It is suggested that you concentrate upon only one element at a time. For instance, with a small cup or bowl of earth, concentrate upon absorbing its elements over an extended period of time. Judge the length of time for concentration upon this one element (the number of days or weeks) according to your own desire or impression. Then after you have “worked” with earth for a while, begin with the element of air. Then go to water, then fire, using your bowl of water and a candle as aids to your power of visualization and imagery.

Consideration of these various elements in this manner, means that you are activating these same qualities within yourself in accordance with the alchemical principles given in the beginning of this lesson.

Finally, you will discover that you are the artificer! By this process you transmute that which is base, or that which is upon a lower vibratory level within you, to that which is gold, or to a higher vibratory level.

ROSE THE MEDITATION

PICTURE A ROSE.

Visualize it completely, and HOLD it before your mental eye. When you begin your meditation you may prefer to let your mind wander. Imagine that it is a lake, and watch different thoughts rise to its surface and float there. Allow each thought to remain for a moment, then force it to depart.

Then select your one object — your rose. In your imagination build a masterpiece of a picture around it and then, one by one, mentally erase the parts of the picture you painted around it until finally, you have nothing remaining but the glorious flower suspend before you.

Hold it vividly there for a moment with every ounce of your mental effort. Then suddenly erase it. Hold before your mind’s eye for a split second a wall of nothingness ... as if you reached out and drew down a white wall to hide the rose.

Gaze upon the wall for a second ... a wall which is void of all things. Hold this blank white wall before you for a flash of a second. It is during this void that the Inner Vision may rise, or some sensation be experienced. As the mind erases the subject of meditation for this split second, the alerted higher consciousness projects a momentary flash of inspiration, of light, or some manifestation of itself, to be mirrored upon the blank wall. What is to be expected to happen during this second of time? Each person will react differently, see different visions, or experience different inner reactions or mental responses.

The mind may be caught in a sudden spiral sensation. The suggestion is, allow it to happen. Spiral with it, mentally, for it is leading you toward a higher level of consciousness. Or there may seem to open in the top of your head a “sliding door,” freeing the mind from its earthly limitations and allowing it to expand from the top of your head to embrace the universe.

Or you may hear the Voice of the Silence, which later we shall describe to you, but which in the beginning may resemble a whispering wind. Or you may hear the sound of a faraway melody ... an actual sound of music ... which will well up from within your own self. Or the vacuum may fade away and thoughts begin to rise in mind, signalling the termination of your meditation.

In the beginning you probably will not be able to sustain the mental vision for more than a few seconds. As time progresses and your mind becomes practiced, a complete visualization will last no longer than two and a half minutes. No human mind, even trained, can usually hold its attention centered without wavering upon any given object for longer than this time. This does not include the preliminary acts of stilling the body and the breath. Nor does it include the time after the mind enters the realms of the inner world. A period of thirty minutes has been mentioned as appropriate for daily meditations, but remember “time” is related to Earth. Once the mind enters the rapture of true meditation, time is forgotten.

PYTHAGORAS

Born 586 B.C. on the island of Samos, he lived about 100 years. He was an older contemporary of the Buddha who attained enlightenment during the 6th century B.C. Shankaracharya and Mahavira were flourishing in India, Zoroaster and Mithras dominated Persia and Lao Tse and Confucius enlightened China. The 6th century was a remarkable time of evolutionary change for the life wave of humanity.

The Executive Staff and Board at Astara are recommitting to one of the original purposes of Astara; The Mystery School. Through the teaching of the Ancient Mysteries, Astara is offering a compendium of the esoteric teachings of all ages. Directed by and presented by Greg Toews, the Light of knowledge and the Light of understanding will continue to help prepare and educate students to uncover their cosmic and planetary significance in relation to the Divine.

Formatted in a series of three with seven modules per series, these practices are derived from the Astara Book of Life Degree Lessons and applied to modern techniques and every day use. These classes are taught in the oral practice as their legacy dictates but are no longer hidden due to the Aquarian Age directives to share the Light with as many as possible.

Astara has set up an etheric school via the internet where the Book of Life Degree Lessons live and are free of charge. The Series Modules will be a paid class (All donated to help fund Astara) in pre-recorded dissertations with live Q&A follow up via zoom for those who have purchased the class.

This was found in an early version of the Voice of Astara and it seemed appropriate and relevant amid today’s chaotic negativism. The line You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and stars fits perfectly with this issue that represents a homage to the elements and the universal struggle of Being. The translation of the word Desiderata means Things Desired or Wanted. Astara’s desire is that this once again, brings peace, hope and beauty to all who read and share it.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

USE OF SOLAR ENERGY

Solar energy will supply your home with all their power requirements. A small apparatus, not much larger than your two hands placed side by side, will capture Cosmic Energy that is radiated from the sun and will transmute it into that particular type of power necessary to furnish heat, light and power to your home.
