Director ’s Corner

One thing I love about my office is that I have a window that looks out over the parking lot, and I get to see people of all ages coming into the building on the daily. My favorite are the parents with little children hopping, skipping, and jumping with their books into the building. Makes my day! I look at data and statistics, but it’s nice to physically see our patrons enjoying the Library.

I presented 5 year statistics at our recent board meeting, and I am so excited to share that the Anderson County Library numbers look fantastic. Just like everyone else, Covid hit the Library hard, and we have been in a recovery phase since. However, I’m pleased to say that comparing FY 19-20 and FY 23-24 shows trends of moving beyond recovery. The Library has seen increases in almost every area, including circulation of physical and digital materials, library card holders, and attendance. Just in the last year we’ve had an almost 30% increase in the amount of visitors and items being checked out! All this is to say thank you! Thank you for using the Library’s physical and digital resources. Thank you for coming to our buildings to attend meetings, programs and just to hang out. Your support is important for our community. It’s important to the Library, and it’s important to me personally!

Library Spotlight

Connecting With Our Community

Whether it’s at the yearly Soirée or a back-to-school night, city festival or a Bookmobile stop, our library workers love connecting with our community. We believe it’s important to go beyond our libraries and meet people where they are. For instance, did you know that our Bookmobile delivers large print books and craft kits to local senior centers, or that our dedicated staff visit dozens of schools every fall? By going into our communities, we’re bringing literacy, learning, and fellowship to those who may not be able to make it to one of our physical library locations. So next time you’re out and about, look for us!

ASK

A LIBRARIAN

“Are there any resources at the library for Spanish-speaking families?”

Even if you only speak Spanish, you can still enjoy the library. We have many resources available for Spanish-speaking families., such as a large collection of Spanish books and audiobooks to teach you basic English. A great resource we offer is Mango Languages, where you can create an account and learn English (or any other language!) Kids can enjoy our Wonderbooks in Spanish, and we offer a diverse collection of bilingual books. Also The Powdersville Branch offers a Bilingual Storytime twice a month. Enjoy stories in English and Spanish, Spanish songs, and a Spanish-themed craft.
