A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham
Check out what our staff are loving this month!
Our summer reading program is new and improved! Join our Summer Adventure Challenge, where participants can read anything they like (and we mean anything!) for 1 hour a week and choose an activity from our weekly adventure list. Finish both of these activities to complete the week, and participants who finish 7 out of 9 weeks will be entered to win fun prizes! See your local library to learn more.
Did you know that you can book a one-on-one appointment with a librarian through our Booka-Librarian service? Whether you’re looking for device help, learning more about Libby, or need assistance finding a long-lost ancestor, our librarians are here to help. Visit our website for more information.
We love bringing the joy of reading to people of all ages! Our Bookmobile team recently began working with local senior living centers to provide large print books to their residents. This program has been a huge success, and we can’t wait to see how it grows in the future!
Summer is all about new adventures, spending time with family and friends, and having fun. Experience all three at our library programs! There’s something for everyone, so visit your local library branch and have a blast.
We’ve got a new collection in the Main Library: Wellness Kits. Browse kits on the topics of walking, blood pressure monitoring, substance abuse, mental health, and more. These kits contain materials and resources to explore a topic or to get help for yourself or a loved one. The bags are located next to the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor, and are purposefully discreet so anyone can feel comfortable checking them out. Take a kit to our Circulation Desk to borrow, or checkout at one of our convenient self-checkout stations. Wellness Kits checkout for 21 days. Check back often, as we’ll be expanding this section in the library soon!
Take part in our Database Discovery game! Dig up the answer to the following questions, email it to communityservices@andersonlibrary.org, and be automatically entered to win a library swag bag! Happy discovery!

Summer is an important time for kids to relax and enjoy taking a break from the rigors of the classroom, but it is not a time for children to stop learning, growing, and reading! Research studies show that children who do not read over the summer lose at least two months of reading development.
So as a parent who is looking for summer activities for their children, remember to build in time for them to read and a perfect way to do that is to bring them to the library for our free summer reading activities! We have a wide variety of events being offered throughout the county so come on by and check us out this summer!
- Pam W., Belton Branch Manager and Librarian
“Viewfinder is a wordless graphic novel for children. The story follows a young space traveler who decides to visit a blue planet in a solar system far away. Upon arrival, the traveler finds a planet oddly empty of people but filled with abundant evidence of the lives they lived in the not-toodistant past. This is an ideal title for child and adult to share and spark discussion around families, communities, and responsible stewardship of our earth.” - Diane S.
City of Heroes by
Richard Côté“Charleston lies on one of the most dangerous fault lines in the eastern United States. The 1886 earthquake was a magnitude 7.3. In an age when there were no disaster agencies, Charleston relied on its citizens to rebuild. Using personal letters and newspaper accounts, Côté provides a captivating account of the trials and triumphs of its citizens during one of the most turbulent events in Charleston’s history.” - Laura H.
