Director ’s Corner

As we head into spring, I’m looking at a packed calendar full of exciting projects coming to life, tons of outreach opportunities, and, of course, the big push into Summer Reading. I’m thrilled to announce that our new Iva location is opening soon! This project has been in the works for a few years, and it’s incredible to see it finally coming together. A huge thank you to Anderson County, Senator Gambrell, and ACOG for making this possible. The new location will feature a fantastic children’s area and meeting space; I can’t wait for the community to enjoy it!

We’re also adding something special to the Food Lion on Highway 24: a book vending

machine! With your library card, you’ll be able to check out adult and children’s books, plus DVDs — all close to home. For patrons who don’t live near a library, it’s a game-changer. This project is made possible thanks to a grant from the SC State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Stay tuned for the opening date.

And don’t forget to catch us out and about this spring! We’ll have a big presence at the Anderson Soirée, and you’ll spot us at the Pendleton Jubilee, Iva Spring Festival, and Spring Water Festival as well. Stop by and join the fun!

As always, see you at the library!

Library Spotlight

Our Gardens are Growing!

The Anderson County Library’s Children’s Courtyard is home to two beautiful gardens — the Sensory Garden and the Carolina Fence Garden — with 25 species of native and pollinator-friendly plants. Open to the public seven days a week, the space has grown from 1,000 visitors in 2021 to over 7,000 in 2024! The Carolina Fence Garden features plants once used by the Cherokee for food, medicine, and more — like Goldenrod, known as "Sun Medicine" for its healing properties. The Sensory Garden is designed to engage sight, smell, sound, and touch, creating a relaxing and fun space for families. With help from Plantsoon and community science programs like CoCoRaHS and Project FeederWatch, the gardens are a great way to learn, explore, and connect with nature.
