Performance Notes The score is read graphically. There are no rests, only instances of texture or melody. The performers can interpret how much time is given to each system however they feel is best, giving consideration to the different textures. * Notes with crescendos directly following are to be understood as a texture. The note should be interpreted as an immediate swell from as soft as possible to the dynamic given (mp-ff). Considering that the score is read graphically, the note should be held for as long as the crescendo extends. If the extension of the crescendo stops at the same place in both staves then the euphonium and tuba should cut off at the same time. ** Open fingering notes with a trail of headless sixteenth notes are to be executed similarly to a trill. The player should rapidly and exhaustively trill between any close note to the open note designated. The goal of the texture is a sense of panic, unrest, work, and stress. Breaths can and should be taken in the middle of this texture whenever needed. The breaths taken should be audible and allude to the emotion of the texture. The projection of specific notes is not the intent for these passages, rather the visual sensation of being anxious and the juxtaposition between high quantity and low volume.
