Tours are held every fourth Saturday of the month at 11am or otherwise by appointment. Each tour last two hours approximately and costs £5 per person.

Randalstown Viaduct

The adventure begins at the River Lookout on Lower Main Street and follows a route which combines stops linked to significant events in the history of the town as well as visits to some businesses for treats along the way.

Randalstown is an attractive small town situated on the River Maine close to the North East corner of Lough Neagh. It is a Designated Conservation Area which retains a number of heritage buildings, a road bridge of great antiquity and the famous eight arched viaduct.

The route will follow the river path, visiting the Webb Clock Tower, a tribute to one of the local linen barons, as well as some of the quiet walking paths and tranquil garden areas, where it is possible to relax and reflect.

Why not take some time to steer a path through this fascinating historic town of majestic beauty. The trail will take you round some of the most historical sites of this award winning town. Discover a unique bridge from the glory days of steam and take in the many reminders of the area’s remarkable industrial heritage and links to the linen and iron industries.

Randalstown’s integrity, as a typical 19th Century Ulster town, is still intact and its original street layout, buildings and structures, dating back to the 18th and 19th Centuries, reflect the character and rich history of the town.

Shane’s Street

The influence of The Old Bleach Linen Company and the O’Neill Estate will be explained and the links to the historic traditions of fairs and markets explored.

One of the highlights of the walk will be crossing Charles Lanyon’s magnificent viaduct which affords wonderful views over the town and into the Shanes Castle demesne. Hear the story of why it is regarded as a symbol of community harmony.

Road Bridge O’Neill Arms Hotel

Returning to the Main Street, by way of the road bridge, the tour will once again enter the town centre from the opposite side and finish by having refreshments and a Q&A session in a local Cafe.
