01 eFFICIENERGY Explore the liminal space between water and land! Arch. Design #8/ Rural educational infrastructure Tutor: Ar. Camilo Restrepo Villa Entrerrios, Antioquia Ana Sofía Vasco 2022-02
The technical educational center concentrates its efforts on research into tannery processes to impact the local economy and the recovery of ecosystems. The project is committed to the restoration of native habitats, creating environmental repair strips that allow the preservation of the ecosystem. In this way, architecture proposes a healthy coexistence between natural environment and built space. Due to the high presence of wetlands in the lot, the project takes on a vocation of a “Rainwater Park” which: collects, filters, stores, and infiltrates with recreational and learning experiences. The building behaves like a water sponge that, in addition to managing its own resources and waste, reeducates regarding the sustainability of the main productive source of the territory. The building proposes “Education for development” with an agro-sustainable approach. Guiding the program on environmental problems but addressing the causes that originate them.

Treatment wetland operation section
Wetlands are the most efficient natural ecosystem for accumulating carbon from the atmosphere. They are used in the project as buffer zones and drainage areas, creating a stormwater park for use, learning and research.
10
Wetlands will serve as “natural sponges” to store rainwater, absorb excess water to avoid flooding, clean water and store it, treat waste, and allow cereal production (harvest agriculture).

Visual from circulation on roof
Geometry is based on the understanding of the formal patterns of nature, surrounding it to integrate with it, resulting in greater interaction between spaces and not only with their natural environment. The circular shape allows integration with the context, becoming part of what already exists and allowing a continuous
flow through its environment, giving the possibility of viewing from all angles. The project seeks to settle on the land, making the most of the natural qualities of the environment and with the intention of generating the least possible environmental and visual impact.
11
Efficienergy
Use of rainwater The rainwater collected by the cover is sent to the ground in the form of a waterfall, being collected and sent to the wetland to be treated there with the principles of oxidation lagoons and removing contaminants, for later use. This contributes to the establishment of local autonomy for greater independence from high energy consumption systems. Thus, by understanding natural cycles, overexploitation of the environment is prevented, taking small strategies that are maintained in the long term and require less energy and resources. What results in a sustainable building which is committed to obtaining renewable resources and services.

Explore, preserve and recover Architecture recognizes and respects the limits of nature preceding its intervention. In this way, the building uses environmental wealth to reduce the carbon footprint, betting on sustainable economic development: Research to impact the local economy (Provides Research classrooms for agricultural, dairy and tannery processes). The educational center intends to explore the limits between the built and the unbuilt. Thus, interacting with the elements of the ecosystem to achieve the maximum effect, with minimal interference. 13

Compost Heating System
Compost increases its temperature thanks to the degradation of organic matter. It is ideal in the climate of the region since it is used to heat water and/or spaces. A compost pile can provide heat for 2 to 3 months and promotes vermiculture. Artificial lighting takes energy through this system, which also provides energy for air conditioning systems.
Low impact supply The project produces its own resources and treats its own waste, proposing circular solutions with zero waste. In this way, energy consumption is reduced, opting for self-regulation. In addition to the search to reduce the environmental impact, these supply networks aim to be part of the educational center’s learning methodology. Thus, educational practice is related to the use of the region’s resources and linked to local development.

Hydroelectric turbine
Composting toilets
“La Torura” ravine is used to generate clean hydraulic energy. This turbine returns water to its channel without affecting aquatic life.
Dry toilets are implemented to avoid water contamination and contribute to the compost energy system. This strategy does not consume or produce water.

Biological resource system A route is planned that integrates the wetlands, passing over and around them, occupying the areas in which there is no presence of water. Compactness is allowed by decentralizing spaces of the transversal infrastructure. The program is situated with the intention of preserving and recovering native habitats. Thus, integrating an edible forest that allows the project to be provided with organic food, a botanical garden in which native species are recovered and preserved and which is part of the research and learning of the educational center. The agro-sustainable environmental development center provides valuable environmental services for society as it proposes a system of biological and natural resources to produce food (dry food production).

Circulation and landscape The circulation functions as a transition space between interior/exterior; sifting external conditions such as lighting, ventilation, visuals, and noise. This relationship between interior and exterior is also given by the route and the visuals, where the wetlands are of great relevance to accentuate this link.

Managing land and water to create multifunctional agroecosystems contributes to diversity and resilience and maintaining balance between ecosystem and cultural services. Understanding the values of the landscape allows for harmony between project and environment, to simultaneously enjoy architecture and nature.

02 Tropicario circular
Biophilic Organisms Arch. Design #7/ Smart Cities Tutor: Ar. Juan Esteban Correa Elejalde Copacabana, Antioquia Ana Sofía Vasco 2022-01
An integral urban framework is created, where the natural system is proposed as one of the main structuring elements to avoid conurbation and uncontrolled expansion, which also allows protecting the water system, improving thermal sensation, and integrating the natural system with urban activities, sustainability values and with it, urban comfort. At the same time, the slopes of the valley are protected, creating conditions that allow the water system to maintain its natural retreat perimeter, but incorporating public space with it. The aim is to increase the integration of the stream with social activities in the urban center and increase public space with green areas. Therefore, a biotic mixture is formulated, which tries to integrate public space, industry, and equipment with nature, strengthening sustainability values and approaching urban compactness.

Slow speed areas and interaction zones with green and blue infrastructure are proposed, combining with the program to attract greater activity to the corridor. With this, it is expected to obtain a high intensity of public life also thanks to the fluidity with which the systems are connected to each other. The Biophilic runner benefits from soft edges; porous and permeable edges with frequent, pronounced, and varied thresholds, articulated by the presence of terraces, niches, and diffuse limits, which favor the flow of activities between the interior and exterior of the buildings. The senses can encompass the Public Space (Architecture for 5km/h). Public Space is perceived at eye level, focusing on the urban experience (Greater perception at an angle of 0° / Horizontal). The bridge is inserted due to the geographical difference that segregates the municipality and functions as an articulator of systems: equipment, public space, mobility, commerce, and housing; the biophilic corridor being the structuring element of each system. The waste used for circularity is transported by a cable car-type rapid transit system line, which circulates under the bridge, giving another function to this infrastructure.

Circularity is the central core of the urban proposal. An urban framework of facilities, roads and public space is created, which allows the transfer of strengths between rural and urban, seeking a compact and interdependent territory.
This approach is carried out through equipment that promotes the primary sector; agricultural marketing and education, treat waste, self-suffice the region, and promote urban sociocultural activity and natural corridors that connect facilities and public space, thus seeking to fight climate change.
Resulting in a more sustainable relationship between ecological cities and self-sustainable agriculture, sharing urban and rural resources such as water, energy, composting, technology, education, health, and food.

Green and blue infrastructure Strategies such as bioswales and permeable concrete are implemented to create a sponge city, which takes charge of its resources and takes advantage of them to recirculate them and achieve greater efficiency. The public space benefits from a direct ecological connection with the natural systems of the environment. Therefore, landscaping does not aim at the creation of a static image, but rather at the creation of integral, healthy, diverse, and resilient ecological processes.

Passive strategies The purpose of the project is to: preserve the riparian habitat while providing services to the residents of the urban center, control floods by allowing the park to flood, integrate organic forms into the surrounding environment to create a cohesive landscape and connect through the bridge the separate city districts with the natural riverside landscape to strengthen the community and cultural identity of the city. The corridor proposes paths for pedestrian traffic, active mobility, and indigenous public transportation. Which wind and intersect with the intention of reducing speeds and thereby increasing traffic safety. In addition, these crossings seek to erase the limits a little.
30
The hybrid equipment (Nutrient Technical Pavilion) is a programmatic public building which contributes to the economic circularity of the region, without leaving aside its public intention. To this end, it includes in its program educational rooms, a cradle-to-cradle center (Laboratory and transformation), restaurants, auditoriums, an exhibition of materials, loading and unloading areas for wagons and an experimental compost bin.

The biophilic corridor incorporates diversity of activity along the line. Due to its extension and configuration, its soft edges vary in activity and program, alternating areas of greater commercial intensity on the first floor with areas of less activity where housing prevails. However, a relationship of permeability is maintained between the buildings and the corridor, allowing direct access and transversal visual relationships between public and private spaces.

03 HYBRABITAT
Hybridizing ecosystems Arch. Design #9/ Experimental workshop Tutor: Ar. Manuel José Jaen Posada Rionegro, Antioquia Ana Sofía Vasco 2023-01
The accelerated growth of the population, economic and industrial activities and the urbanization of the rural area have caused Rionegro to begin its transformation into an urban culture. In this way, Rionegro has become an ideal territory for tourism, culture, entrepreneurship, and education. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a park that contains multiple complementary activities, which function as a system of elements that are inserted into the territory. Although this building aims to become a place that can host orchestra concerts, it also aims to be a place that makes it possible to teach, rehearse and disseminate music throughout the department. The lot in its lowest part has flooding areas that are accentuated with the rain, the question raised is: Are these a problem to be solved or a resource to be used?

What story does the building tell?
The project takes as its starting point three relationships with its context, the first is with runoff waters which are enhanced with the construction of micro-terrains that accentuate their presence and use is made of them as part of a sponge infrastructure that take a stand against climate change. The second link established by the project is ecological connectivity, in order to guarantee the passage of biodiversity, ensuring uninterrupted transit of fauna and relating to the existing ecological route in the municipality. Consequently, the project establishes a future railway station that will pass in front of it, allowing for greater equity, social mix, and age variety.
Blanca Uribe Music Cultural Park
This becomes evident from the use of various strategies such as the restoration of habitats, native species and native vegetation, through the enhancement of runoff waters, and design for fauna.
The park closes the cycle with a sponge infrastructure, which decentralizes energy and converts waste to zero.
37
Hybrabitat
Programmatic relations Hybrid spaces: They promote activity at night such as dance concerts and civic activities during the day (Pavilion). Implementation of spaces in the program that are not associated with music to attract diverse communities in order to avoid cultural, age and social segregation and that in turn allow the hybridization of learning ecosystems so that it is multidisciplinary.

List of activities on the route
Once the program is in place, points of conflict between the parties are identified and the tensions created through the hybridization of learning ecosystems and ecotones are addressed. Activities are implemented that allow the project to be developed as a park, promote its use at night, promote economic development, complement musical development, attract people to carry out activities not associated with music to avoid borders and allow dreaming of a future vision of the territory. Activities are related to identify points of tension and remove pressure by deagglomerating along the route and creating hybrid spaces that mix functional ecosystems.
39
Hybrabitat
Diversify users and create ecotones from ecosystem tensions The project interacts with its context through its park structure, which avoids borders by being fickle, without absolute behaviors, social diversity being inevitable and forming tensions to be resolved between various uses.

Other strategies are implemented such as: the creation of ecotones, the activation of nodes between uses through soft edges, mixing learning ecosystems that allow multidisciplinary and shared training, blurring the limits a little and with flexible spaces that change
use and form in response to future conditions, making spaces more sustainable over time.

04 ENTRÓPICO “A neighborhood within a neighborhood” Arch. Design #5/ Collective housing Tutor: Ar. Santiago López Posada Belén Los Alpes, Medellín Ana Sofía Vasco 2021-01
Road. 84
Gross area 1044m2
Retreat
St. 31A
The housing project, through it, responds to the connection of two roads, mainly activating the interaction with Calle 31, which borders El Parque Quimbaya. The platforms in this sector of the neighborhood lack width and areas of permanence.
St. 31
The building formulates alternatives to the problem of collective housing in Medellín, developing new ideas about living, analyzing how the ways of living in housing have changed in the new reality, confinement.

Place of implantation
48
As the main component of the urban fabric, the residential project is committed to building the city by vitalizing the street, generating spatial structures that integrate into the context and qualify it. Furthermore, the project rethinks the concept of density, understanding it beyond the necessary optimization of the land.
Collective housing

Entrópico
Module design guidelines.
The spatial structure of the homes is divided into a cubic grid of 3m x 3m x 3m. Each of the modules can be built.
Module already built, surrounded by 8 voids, which make up its neighborhood.
Empty modules surrounding a built module can be replaced by a garden module.
The incorporation of common and private spaces in the program is proposed to allow the inhabitants’ daily activities to be carried out. Areas of interaction with nature are also implemented that give way to serenity and rest, private and permanent instances that allow intimacy. 50

A new way to remain in confinement while maintaining life in society
The neighborhood where the building is inserted has characteristics of progressiveness in the homes, that is, the initial useful surface area of the property is varied, increasing, or reducing it depending on the needs of the residents over time. This is why the structure of the building is designed in a porticoed shape with I-shaped Metal Profiles. This configuration is intended to allow the construction of new spaces in the homes in the future, respecting the spaces intended for the community. The first floor is designed to perforate the block, allowing pedestrian passage, creating an internal park and new semi-public spaces: passage, stairs, patio, terraces, and covered corners. The building itself is an urban crossing with several entrances, surrounded by jungle and native vegetation, with a permeable configuration.

A vertical neighborhood, in a tropical climate
This project is designed so that the daily life of the city coexists with the activities of the building and its users. It has been conceived as a vertical neighborhood where various events can be held. In addition, it seeks to promote nightlife, various types of recreation, work, and well-being. Once the confinement is over, the life of the building and the city must mix and complement each other.
54
Thanks to the identification of problems in the sector such as the platforms, which lack width and areas of permanence, the building chooses to set back its façade and thus contribute to the quality of the public space, inviting the pedestrian to enter, enjoy the building or simply shorten distances by passing through it.
Collective housing
Interact through an internal network connected by circulation The habitable terraces have perimeter vegetation and function as observatories of the interior and exterior of the building. In addition, they provide the characteristic of progressiveness to the home, since in the future, they can expand the built area. The building has an internal network with connectivity through hallways and fixed points, giving flexibility and opening unique dynamics in different areas of the route. Each inhabitant can wander through the various spaces of the building in which they can interact (micro experiences).

55
Entrópico
Habitable Cells The homes have 9 different typologies, grouped in 3 ways, to house 1 to 4 inhabitants, stacked in habitable cells from 45m2 to 108m2, separated by balconies, gardens, and terraces, where the tropical climate can access and affect the building with its currents. of fresh air, native vegetation, and pleasant temperature.
56
Collective housing
Typologies 1, 2, 3 & 6
Typology 1 (2-3 inhabitants) The main spaces are associated with the gardens to allow recreation spaces that can be transformed into study and/or productivity spaces.
Typology 2 (2-3 inhabitants) The garden is an element that allows flexibility of activities when it is opened and integrated into the home.
Typology 3 (1-2 inhabitants) The garden allows for future growth of the home. This home is designed for people who have little permanence inside the home.
Typology 6 (3-4 inhabitants) Great productivity and recreational activity, which is why it has large gardens that allow these activities to be carried out.

05 renacer The value of art is not in the finished piece Arch. Design #4/ Courtyard, pavilion & tower Tutor: Ar. Alejandro Restrepo Lalinde Barrio Colombia, Medellín Ana Sofía Vasco 2020-01
The art school explores the functions of the public building and its relationships with the urban space and society through design guidelines such as: connection with the environment, dialogue between the building and the street, accessibility, and civic life. A neighborhood-scale community building is proposed located in a consolidated environment and associated with public space. Exploring three basic formal structures of architecture: courtyard, pavilion, and tower, since using each of these implies in turn being in contact with the history of architecture itself. With this project, the aim is to transform the image of the museum to give it a sense of a multicultural learning space, where cultural and citizen communication promote interaction.
58
Art school
59
Renacer
The museum as a multicultural learning space promotes interaction between visitors and the exhibited works.
Circulation that forces you to go through the building horizontally if you want to go up vertically.
Configuration of voids through three tower modules that form patios in different rooms.
The materiality reflects the process of execution of the building, giving value to the construction of the work. Which also allows the entry of light.
Base building configuration
60
Art school
Social areas that interact with art Spaces are created that encourage socialization and allow permanence, both at the first level and at the last levels of the project. All cultures and social groups have a place in the building, so its spaces become multicultural and inclusive; designed to welcome all types of audiences.
Art goes from being in places whose primary function is the preservation and protection of material treasures, to having a new function of guidance, education, and entertainment.
61
Renacer
Longitudinal section
62
Art school
Three towers are proposed that are interconnected by patios which allow the lighting of the interior spaces of the building. The circulations aim to address the three units that make up the project, horizontal circulation being necessary if you want to circulate vertically. Another important factor is the relationship of the first level with the public and urban sphere. Finally, the double heights and level changes on each floor of the project units are highlighted.
Because the buildings in the implantation site have high densities with few voids, the art school implements patios that allow connection with the sky and natural lighting. Natural light, in addition to entering through patios, is also manifested through large light entrances on the facade.

Circulations that link perception with the sky. The school visit is a social event that produces an informal learning experience that could be described as a mixture of leisure and learning.
64
The circulations are interconnected with the building, horizontally and vertically, allowing a relationship with the sky.
Art school
The building exposes the resources that artists have used to capture the world in their pieces
Learning is not only reduced to the acquisition of data in the classrooms, but also experiences and emotions come into play through interaction throughout the journey, thus turning the viewer into an active element. The intention at the first level is to continue the public sphere, therefore, this level behaves as a passage of commercial activities that dialogue with art.
Building isometric cutaway
There is a serious problem, and it is assumed that the visitor has no interest in knowing how things were done, how a certain painting was painted and for what reasons the painter or artist did it in this way. Often focusing on explaining the finished work without considering the artistic creation process itself. For this reason, architecture strives to demonstrate the resources that have been used to build it, giving value to art from its creation process and not exclusively to the finished work.
