Design Project: Mother and Child Care Centre, at Kolkata 6

Concept and Plan The design of “Healing Spaces - A Mother and Child Welfare Centre” that focuses on the five pillars of ‘well-being.’ 1. Confort- safety, air quality, thermal comfort, acoustic comfort, solar comfort. 2. Aesthetics 3. Sustainability- social responsibility, energy efficiency, economic viability. 4. Health- physical health, mental health, environmental health. 5. Happiness- while this is not exactly a measurable factor, a mother and child hospital is often associated with new beginnings. If the spaces are not sterile and are designed in such a way so as to celebrate new beginnning, it will mostly likely amount to a happy place!

It is a low cost housing project ehich has 1BHK, 2BHK and raw houses of differnet sizes. It also included facilities like school, small shopes, multipurpose hall, post office and health care. The concept here is to design seperate clusters depending on the different area of flats such that every cluster has its own common gathering space.

For 1 there is small open space, no proper wind flow, open space formed will be dark. For 2 there is large open space, opening helps in wind flow through the open space.

Studio Project: A Civic Landscape, at Xiong’an 16

Concept The issue of Waste began with being something of public health concern prior the industrial revolution and from the beginning of the revolution, there has been an increase in the number of landfills and dumping grounds in major developing countries right from western countries to the developing Asian cities. The Xiong’an New Area being a new city with a fast pace developing urban context, there has been a lot of study on urbanism from various perspectives. Keeping in mind the traditional masterplan layout, with the boot area reaching near completion, the focus of our work would be through the theory of landscape urbanism, where the masterplan is treated as a living ecology. The proposal would revolve on the 5 general themes of Landscape Urbanism as outlined by James Corner(Field Operations): 1. Horizontality 2. Infrastructures 3. Forms of Process 4. Techniques
