COMMUNITY TU COMUNIDAD SUMMER NIGHTS UNDER THE STARS HISTORICAL TIMELINE 1922 Pearson Park (known as City Park) development began with the pool (or the plunge), ponds, and cactus garden. 1927 “The Greek Theatre” was built. Vine-covered arbors bordered a grassy picnic area for concertgoers to enjoy afternoon performances. Palm trees overlook the stage, which originally fronted the plunge or public swimming pool. The American Legion Band was first to play regular concerts at the theatre, later home to the allvolunteer Anaheim Community Band until the late 1980s.

1965-93 The “Music Under the Stars” community band concert series performed on Saturday nights, attracting young adults and pop-rock music fans from the ‘boomer’ era. 1975 “The Greek” was renamed Pearson Park Amphitheatre after former beloved public official Mayor Charles A. Pearson. 1979 Audience area was redesigned with seats from Anaheim stadium. The stage raised and extended, and lighting and audio renovation upgrades completed. 1982 “Starlight Specials” variety program series began; originally titled “Thursday Spotlight”

1930s Depression year, the Federal Government sponsored free musical programs.

1985 Front-of-theatre restrooms, box office, concession, and patio were completed; “Just for Kids” children’s program series began with sponsorships from Target Stores and other donors.

1932-57 Anaheim High School’s graduation and baccalaureate ceremonies were held. 1958 Original curved wood bench was seating is replaced by seats from the Gilmore Field baseball stadium. Later, seats were removed in 1968 due to deterioration.

1991 A complete technical renovation with an upgraded stage floor, audio, and lighting equipment.

TODAY... Pearson Park Amphitheatre features “Summer Nights Under the Stars” series

for families and children (replacing the “Just for Kids” and later “Family Friday Nights” series. The Kaleidoscope series replaced “Starlight Specials” on Saturday evenings. “Special Attractions” by guest groups are also included for additional audience information. “Summer Nights Under the Stars” series, performing groups June through August, offering musical plays, storytellers, circus shows, magic, dance, puppetry, music, cultural variety shows, family movie nights, free concert nights, and more. These shows are co-sponsored by the Disneyland Resort, Anaheim Community Foundation, corporate sponsors, and local businesses. Tickets are free for children under 8 and only $3 for regular admission. Pearson Park Amphitheatre is committed to offering quality live family entertainment at affordable prices.
