Stay Prepared for Hurricane Season: Plan Ahead for Less Stress

Hurricane season is unpredictable, and not planning now can lead to unnecessary frustration later. Take proactive steps to ensure your safety and peace of mind by preparing in advance.

Start with a Plan

• Connect with others: Talk to neighbors, reach out to family and friends, or consider places you've always wanted to visit.

• Team up: If traveling with a companion, coordinate your evacuation plans together.

• Decide on a destination: Identify where you’d like to go and how you will get there.

• Vehicle safety: Determine if a car needs to be moved to higher ground and make necessary arrangements.

Use Technology to Your Advantage

• Download travel and booking apps like Kayak, Tripadvisor, Expedia, or Travelocity to explore flight, hotel, and car rental options.

• Research potential evacuation routes and nearby airports.

• Jot down backup travel plans, including flights, hotel stays, and transportation details.

Communicate & Set Expectations

• Reach out to friends or family now to discuss potential shelter options. If evacuation is necessary, they will already be expecting your call, making the process smoother.

• If staying with relatives isn’t ideal, consider booking a nearby hotel for added comfort and privacy.

Consider a Longer Stay

With hurricanes becoming stronger and more frequent in late summer and early fall, a longer evacuation might be a smarter choice. Some individuals opt to leave for several weeks or even a couple of months, traveling to multiple destinations.

Reduce Your Stress

Leaving town during a hurricane not only keeps you safe but also allows professionals to handle assessments, repairs, and cleanup without added stress. You’d be surprised at how much easier recovery feels when you return to a home that’s already on its way back to normal.

Plan ahead now—your future self will thank you!

Meet Mrs. Pat & Mr. Had Asiel

It was very difficult to leave our forever home in the Montenero. But now we are so pleased that we finally moved to The Marbella. The residents and staff are all friendly and welcoming. Thank you!

We have been married for 33 years. While serving on a charity board, we began as contentious rivaling sports fans (Had for NY and Pat for Boston). After a long time, we called a truce, put our rivalry behind us, and became friends. The rest is history. We each have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. Had, known as Grandpa Great has 1.5 great-children. Our blended family brings us the most joy.

Had spent his career in education, administration, and as a tennis coach. For many years, he had his own tax preparation business and volunteered to do tax prep for seniors. After trying multiple professions, Pat culminated her experience in corporate human resources. She dedicated her free time to helping people in crises.

Had grew up in White Plains, NY, as an avid tennis player who later turned to golf. Pat lived in the Berkshires, Fairfield County, Connecticut, and summered on Cape Cod as a youngster. She loved horseback riding, sailing, swimming, water and snow skiing, theater, and modeled for Norman Rockwell. Because Had could always be found on the golf course, she decided to take up the game and thankfully enjoyed it. Now, we spend a few summer months on a golf course in Fairfield County, and at a family lodge in the peaceful woods of upstate New York.

We enjoy music, dancing, and travel, having visited most of the places on our bucket list. New Zealand was a favorite. We have been fortunate enough to play many golf courses in the United States and England. It would not be easy to choose the most special.

A peace treaty still remains in effect so that we can enjoy sports each hoping differing teams are victorious.
