In 1988 there were 40 cases of polio every hour. Now there are less than 40 cases every year.

Today

In 1988, 350,000 children were paralyzed by polio every year. Thanks to the polio vaccine that number was reduced to 13 last year. But polio is preventable. No child should be paralyzed.

The wild polio virus is now only in three countries.

Afghanistan has the highest number of polio cases in the world.
