The program matches clients and counselors, based on language and culture, and offers services in 6 different languages.

It is the only program in San Mateo that specifically serves the older adult LGBTQ+ community. PFS was a main partner in the opening of the San Mateo Pride Center.

Value: Creating a program benefiting clients and volunteers

Clients overwhelming felt the SPC program was very valuable. Value increased with age (except for 85+)

Most counselors felt the SPC Program was very valuable. 77% were very likely to refer others to volunteers.

Impact: Addressing the greatest needs

Most clients were satisfied with how often they met with their counselors and they help they received. Volunteer counselors were also very satisfied with the program, and any shared that they learned a lot about healthy aging.

Looking forward: Meeting the growing needs

The older adult population is expected to more than double in the next 4 decades. PFS is working hard to ensure it's able to meet the need by continuing to invest in and build: an environment that fosters social support and friendship; on-going learning opportunities for healthy aging and wellness; access to resources, particularly in the community.
