Dear Class of 1973, The weeks are passing so quickly now as you complete your senior year and approach the first of a number of important crossroads in life. I understand your impatience to leave and to proceed with another chapter of your life. I would think less of you and of us here at Mount if you were not anxious now to go on to something new, to take charge of your own affairs, to see what you are capable of accomplishing. You will have a lot to talk about these days as you try to wrap up the significance of what happened to you here. Please reserve judgement until you have more perspective about your experience. Try to keep yourÂ self and your Mount affairs in firm control, difficult as that may be, so that you can look back someday with as proud a feeling as possible. During these last days, try to make more firm the close and enduring relationships you have made her. Good friendÂ ship and kindness come most easily when we are happy and content, at peace with God, with others and with ourselves. This, then, is my wish and prayer for you, that the peace and joy of Christ be with you all and that the friendships you made here at Mount continue to be strong and true through the years to come. RING DAY SPEECH

The “Class of 73” brings certain images to mind. Images of wild enthusiasm on Class Day, of unity and school spirit in the Junior Assembly, and visions of smiles and laughter, throughout the year, no matter what the occasion. Throughout your long, hard years at Mount, you have been more interested in giving of your time, effort, energy, and most importantly, of yourselves, than in taking. The Senior Class has stayed together through good times and bad, working with and for each other. Individually, and as a whole, you are honest and open, and have worked hard to keep communication active between everyone in the school. At a time when many of us ignore or make fun of an interest in school, you always know better. Your class has retained your joyful and spontaneous spirit, and really en couraged the rest of us to do the same. And of course, there is your driving magnetism and energy, so difficult to put into words, that makes you so special to us all. I recall coming to Mount last year as an insecure and petrified little “frosh”. I think most sophomores will con fess that the school was overwhelming, and that you tried to make it easier. We shared a picnic, a softball game, and skated together. You were always warm and friendly, and we could turn to you in times of major crisis, like when we got lost or received a detention. You were there and you showed you cared. I think now is the right time for all the sophomores to say, “Thanks for everything.
