I found the webinar to be an excellent academic event, the faculty members were very friendly and dynamic; this webinar also helped me to continue to practice my level of English.

School of Physicians and Surgeons. • Director of the Division of Neonatology at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital in
New York-Presbyterian since 1998. • Chairman of the Executive Steering Committee of the NICHD Neonatal Research

RECOGNITIONS AND PUBLICATIONS • 2005: He received the Physician of the Year Award from the Columbia University
Medical Center of the New York Presbyterian Hospital and the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of the Nursing Division. • 2006: He received the National Prize for Neonatal Education from the Perinatal

Faculty Kathleen G. Brennan, MD EDUCATION • •

After serving as Chief Resident for the pediatrics program at Columbia University Medical Center, Dr. Brennan continued at Columbia with subspecialty training in neonatology. During her neonatal-perinatal fellowship, she honed expertise in evaluating and treating a variety of neonates with common and rare pathologies, including those requiring cardiac surgery, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), high frequency ventilation, and therapeutic hypothermia for hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. Dr. Brennan’s current research focuses on how doctors communicate with families, both in prenatal consultations and in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). She works closely with these families and their infants, both in the NICU/Neonatal Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and following their discharge in the Neonatal Followup Clinic.

Faculty Marianne Garland, MD
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT • Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center. • She is the Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Lactation Program and Donor Human Milk Program and also the Medical Director for the Physician Extender Program. • She also recently established the use of Donor Human Milk for the smallest of babies in the NICU at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. • Dr. Garland oversees the large group of neonatal nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and hospitalists providing direct care to NICU babies and supports many of the quality improvement initiatives they undertake.
Faculty Tina A. Leone, MD

After completing her medical degree and pediatrics training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry - New Jersey Medical School, Dr. Leone pursued neonatology training at the University of California, San Diego, where she developed an interest in neonatal resuscitation research and neonatology education. She also received additional training in neonatal functional echocardiography and uses ultrasound in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to enhance clinical management.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT •
Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center and is the Training Program Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship.

Dr. Leone’s clinical interests are optimizing the stabilization of newborn infants at the time of birth, assessing the newborn physiology during the transition from fetal to newborn life, and improving outcomes for preterm infants and for infants with chronic diseases.

As Training Program Director, Dr. Leone guides pediatricians to develop into neonatologists who provide compassionate care to patients and contribute to advancing the field of neonatology throughout their careers.
Faculty Sandhya Sitaraman Brachio, MD EDUCATION • • • • •
She received her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in Pediatrics, as well as her fellowship in NeonatalPerinatal Medicine, at Columbia University. She has received further training in QI methodology by completing the Intermediate Improvement Science Series course offered by the James M. Anderson Center for Health Systems Excellence affiliated with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She was also selected to participate in the 2020-2021 Columbia Women’s and Children’s Health Faculty Leadership Academy to further develop leadership and mentorship skills and to gain an enhanced understanding of operational and financial structures. Her research is focused on Quality Improvement and how we integrate multidisciplinary teams to successfully bring evidence-based medicine to the bedside.

Faculty Thomas Hays, MD, PhD EDUCATION
• Dr. Hays is a neonatologist specializing in the care of critically ill infants and newborns. • He completed his MD, PhD, and pediatric residency at the Carl Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and his neonatology fellowship at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center. • Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Columbia University Medical Center • His research interests include the genetic basis of congenital diseases, particularly anomalies of the kidneys, and how genetic diagnoses can be used to improve the care of infants, and to help them and their families.
Faculty Rakesh Sahni, MD EDUCATION • After earning his medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi in India, Dr. Sahni did pediatric residency training in India, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He further completed fellowship training in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Columbia University in 1993 and has been a faculty member since then. • Dr. Sahni’s major area of interest is neonatal physiology and behavior. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT • Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center, Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at NewYorkPresbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, and Director of the Infant Physiology Laboratory at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. • He has published more than 75 original papers and more than 95 abstracts, and is a recipient of several grant awards.

Faculty Amy L. Turitz, MD
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT • Co-Director of the Preterm Birth Prevention Center and a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. • She specializes in the care of high-risk pregnancies, including women with poor obstetric histories, medical complications, and fetal anomalies. • She has expertise in prenatal ultrasound and diagnostic genetic testing procedures (chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis). • Dr. Turitz is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. • She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on topics ranging from antenatal surveillance, preterm birth, fetal growth restriction, and medical and obstetric complications of pregnancy.

EDUCATION •
She entered the field of maternal-fetal medicine after an established career in general obstetrics and gynecology and education, having received her medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine and her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College.

She was the Associate Residency Director at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center prior to pursuing her fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT • Assistant clinical professor in the division of maternal fetal medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. • She is director of the Diabetes in Pregnancy Program at the Mothers Center. • Her clinical and research interests include diabetes in pregnancy and the use of telehealth in prenatal care. • She has presented multiple abstracts at scientific conferences and written articles focusing on obesity and offspring neurodevelopmental outcomes, the biochemical composition of the cervix, labor inductions, preterm labor prevention in twins, the use of fetal fibronectin in predicting preterm labor, and fetal congenital defects.
