Blessings to all. I’m excited to bring you the final issue of the year for AMPS Cleveland and AMPS Michigan Magazines. Thank you for supporting AMPS Magazines through all of 2025. We have brought you many exciting, intriguing, informative and entertaining issues. I’d like to thank King Syxx for the Cover and Cover story for Cleveland AMPS Magazine and Chef Chay for the Cover and cover story for AMPS Detroit Magazine. AMPS Cleveland is full of amazing melanated events, our missing and found children, icons, legends and legacies. AMPS Detroit is over flowing with Melanated events and businesses, posters of our missing women, an introduction to the first Female Mayor of Detroit, icons and legends.

King Syxx is a native of Cleveland, Oh who began his music career at age 14.nSyxx Started out As A Producer & Today is now considered One Of the best Rapping Producers.
His Lastest Project LISTEN 2 MY LINGO was released in 2025 Some of his Most Notable Singles include B.O.T.R “Bag On the Regular” (2023), “TURNT MY CITY UP” (2023), and “Bless You” (2022). King has also featured on ‘Billboard Top 100” with smash single “No future” Featuring Malan the artist and in 2016 was named lyricses of the year by the Ohio Entertainment Awards.
Growing up on Cleveland’s east side As the oldest son to a single mother of three He began to focus on music and sports while his mom worked double shifts to provide for him and his siblings, This also led him to collaborate and produce for various Cleveland artists.
King Syxx formerly known as the “Lake Erie Monsta” shook the city with his cunning skills and rapid responses as a battle rapper In the “Bar for bar battle Rap league” which he started at the (Roc Bar) in Downtown Cleveland Ohio in his first ever public Rap battle with ‘Lamma Leek” Who Was recently back from 106 and Parks freestyle Friday battle. After A few years remaining undefeated Syxx decided to take a different route with the music putting down the battle rap and picking up production/studio engineering. Syxx connected with his brother & Now Manager (King Ace) to start a record label called (A.M.P Entertainment) in 2008. That also led to the collaborative project AMP-UP!
Merging “Up Their Entertainment” and. “A.M.P Entertainment” U.T.E was A brother duo from the city’s Eastside.Dre Gudda & Prime Xample They drop multiple videos and would go on to travel from city to city and do shows promoting and advertising both labels, King Always believed that there was strength in numbers and when Strong people get with other Strong people they can be unstoppable!
After years of hard work, grinding and making a lane for himself, He joined His Brother’s “Raw Glass Vision” “Caesar Rio” & “Bart Watts” & Started an online publication called (The Living Room Cook Up) An online promotional platform for artists comics, stylist/ Anyone who has A business or talent to showcase!

Sandra Morgan: The First Female Mayor of East Cleveland
Mayor Elect Sandra Morgan has officially become the first female Mayor of East Cleveland. Originally Sandra had been slated to fill the position until the present Election occurred. The past mayor encountered legal issues and had to be replaced. Her position was challenged by the City Council President Lateek Shabazz whom she defeated at the polls making her the official mayor.
Mayor Sandra Morgan was born in in North East Ohio and went to School in Euclid, Ohio. She went to College in Massachusetts and went on to work in the international trade field before coming back to Ohio. Mayor Sandra Morgan is part of a historic legacy in Cleveland Ohio, The Mayor’s grandfather is the inventor, Garrett Morgan. As we all know here in Ohio, Garrett Morgan invented the 3 signal Stop Light, the gas mask and had his own line of hair products as well as started what is now the Call and Post Newspaper.
Sandra stated after her historic win: “I am absolutely thrilled and delighted for our city and our citizens of the City of East Cleveland. My slogan was your choice, my destiny, and I feel like today the citizens made their choice and our destiny is clear. We’re moving at the speed of progress, towards good things -- moving towards a stable government and moving towards prosperity,”
Mayor Sandra Morgan is excited to continue the work that she started as interim Mayor of East Cleveland. In an interview with channel 19 the Mayor stated, in her first 100 days she will evaluate, update and refine staffing needs in the city. The Mayor vows to work with the State Auditor to deal with East Cleveland’s financial issues. The Mayor also wants to get an audit of the city’s safety forces, and the idea is not to place blame, but to see what is needed to give the safety forces the manpower and training they need going forward to keep the city safe. This is a new day for East Cleveland and here at AMPS we look forward to the progress that will come to East Cleveland. Congratulations Mayor Elect Sandra Morgan.

There are not enough words to express the love and gratitude I have for you. You raised me to respect myself and to know who I am. You were my biggest supporter, and I miss you every day, I carry your strength and lessons with me always. Thank you for the unconditional love you gave me. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of you and the guidance and wisdom you poured into me. You leave a legacy that will with stand the test of time, through me and your grandchildren. The bond we shared will never be broken, you’re the greatest mother anyone could ask for, I pray as you watch over me that I’m making you proud. I love you Mom.

Sarah Oil: The Story of Sarah Rector
Sarah Rector born in 1902, was 11 years old when the land she was given land was found to be oil rich. Living in Oklahoma with her sibling and parents she was given this land because of her lineage being part Indian before the Civil War.
Her land not good for farming was a burden with taxes for her family, her father tried to sell it but was denied. He soon leased the property to Standard Oil who soon hit a line of oil that produced over 2,500 barrels of oil a day. Soon Sarah became known as the richest colored girl in the world.
When news of her fortune got around the pressure to put her under the guardian ship of a white guardian or have her declared honorary white was a lot off pressure on the fami-
ly. Sarah received requests for loans, marriage and more and she was only 11 years old. Everyone was concerned about her welfare including WEB Dubois, The NAACP Booker T Washington and more. There was an investigation into white guardians trying to steal young black children’s wealth that was led by the NAACP.
By the time Sarah was 18 she was a millionaire. She invested well and brought a house in Kansas and moved her entire family there. During the great Depression Sarah lost most of her wealth and had to sell her home but she still was able to live a comfortable life. Sarah married and had 3 sons, today this amazing woman still has several living grandchildren. Sarah passed away in 1967.

Surya Bonaly
Many know the name Surya Bonaly from a YouTube video of a young melanated figure skater doing the impossible…landing a back flip on one blade something that had never been done. But Surya is more than one backflip she is a trail blazing athlete who has gone down in history around the world for her athletic ability, advocacy and talent. Surya was born in Nice and adopted by white parents in Europe. Surya loved sports but truly fell in love with ice skating. Never seeing others that looked like her made her look at herself as a future role model for others. Not always judged the same as other figure skaters being melanated Surya knew she had to be better. Many times she was defiant, case in point in the1998 Olympics she had an injury that would not allow her to perform her regular routine that is how she ended up making the flip that would go down in history. There were other moments such as when she refused to wear the silver medal when she knew she deserved gold.
Today 30 years later she still works with youth on ice, she is an motivational speaker and author. This trailblazer dedicated her life to a sport that did not always love her back…to help others.

Lauryn Hill
When you hear the name of this Living Legend you automatically hear her unique voice. Lauryn Noelle Hill was born in Orange, New Jersey on May 26th 1975. Her parents had a great love of all of music, her mother a English teacher and her father a computer consultant who also played clubs at night helped to introduce Lauryn and her brother music by always having music around them at home.
Lauryn interest in the arts not only included singing but dancing, acting and playing instruments; including the guitar and the violin. Lauryn seemed to excelled at all she did from academic, sports and the arts. Lauryn was approached to join a group the Translator Crew with Pras later this group relaced one of their members with Wyclef Jean this group later became the Fugees.
Before Lauryn graduated from High School she had did a Broadway play produced by MC Lyte, worked on the soap opera As The World Turns starred in Sister Act 2 with Whoopie Goldberg and appeared in the movie King of the Hill.
The Fugees signed with Columbia Records, their first album did not do well. The Fugees second album went over big with their fans and pushed them to Billboard 100 #1 spot. From that 2nd album The Score they produced several #1 hit singles including Killing Me Softly and won Grammy Awards. Later the Album was named one of 500 greatest albums ever recorded.
In 1998 Lauryn recorded her solo album the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. This Album sent Lauryn to the top of the charts and started a string of firsts for Lauryn, not only was Lauryn a beautiful singer but a talented and gifted rapper. She won award after award and the sales went through the roof. Lauryn was one of the first women to be nominated in 10 categories at the Grammy Awards. She appeared on list after list and Magazine covers across the country. Lauryn’s Song A Rose is still a Rose was later recorded by Aretha Franklin. During this time Lauryn and her longtime partner Rohan Marley experienced the joy of the birth of their first child son Zion. Through out their relationship they had 5 children.
Eventually The Fugees disbanded because of a multitude of reasons. It would be several years before fans where able to see all 3 group members perform again. While all the group members had some success in music, producing and philanthropy, the main focus for Lauryn became the focus on her family. Today Lauryn is mother to 6 children
Lauryn’s mark on Hip Hop, Rap, R&B and Soul music is duly noted. Lauryn influence on the fashion world including her hair and her style of dress is legendary, inspiring another whole category and generation of artists. The legacy that this Living Legend, Lauryn Hill leaves on the culture of music will be known through out history and as well the Legacy of the Fugees.

Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson born Michael Gerald Tyson on June 30th 1966 would go on to become one of boxing’s all time great boxers. Growing up Mike had a reputation for being a wild child and getting in trouble in school and on the streets. It was during these trouble times that Mike formed a love of boxing when discovered by one of the coaches at a boys school he was enrolled in. Tyson lost his mother at the age of 16 and has said she never had the opportunity to see him do something great.
Tyson mastered his craft of boxing early on and won gold medals at the 1981 and 1982 Junior Olympics. He went on to become the youngest heavy weight champion in the history of boxing at the age of 20. Often mocked because of his voice, Tyson proved he was more than just a high voice he packed one of the most powerful punches and carried the name of Iron Mike Tyson. Mike’s speed, agility and strength made him a serious contender in the boxing world. Mike became the undisputed Heavyweight Champion from 1986 to 1990. Tyson’s record before he lost to Buster Douglas in 1990 was 37-0 with 33 of those fights
ending in K/O’s.
Mike Tyson professional career has him listed as one of boxing most powerful hitters and all time greats. Today Tyson has the been inducted into the International Boxers Hall of Fame. In 2020 he started the Mike Tyson’s Legends only League that allows retired boxers to fight in their sport.
Mike had his share of personal troubles through the years. But today he is married to longtime love Lakiha Spicer whom he married in 2009 and has 7 children. This Boxing Legend is still going strong. Tyson recently had an boxing match with Jake Paul which set a record on the highest gate sales out side of Las Vegas for any fight. Tyson influence in boxing is staggering with boxers still today wanting to get in the ring with him. Tyson is truly one of the greats.

Michael Jackson: The King of Pop
This icon figure is such a legendary figure from one of the most famous families in the world The Jacksons. His life story played out across the nation beginning when he was just 6 years old. Hailing from Gary Indiana this family of talented youth went on to gain star status with their outstanding vocals and impressive dance moves. With a total of 9 children in the family Michael would soon become a stand out and the lead vocalist of the group The Jackson 5, which consisted of Jackie, Jermaine Tito, Marlon and Michael. They made hits lie ABC and I want you just to name a few. As the years went on Jermaine left the group and was replaced by his brother Randy. The group was managed by their father Joe Jackson and mother Katherine Jackson. His other siblings’ sisters Rebbie, La Toya and Janet would all make their mark on the world. Soon discovered by Detroit Motown Records this young group soon was making hit after hit, not soon after the family had their own variety show as well as their own cartoon. Growing up Michael developed a love for animals that would transcend into adulthood. Many remember he had a pet rat as well as his pet chimpanzee Bubbles. While with Motown Michael recorded several solo albums as a youth including Ben, Got to be there, Forever Michael, Music & Me.
The group eventually left Motown and moved on to Epic Re-
cords. They continued with major hits. Michael was able to film the Wiz with Diana Ross and an all-star cast. Michael recorded a long list of solo albums that produced mega hits across the globe. Soon he was named the King of Pop. His albums Off the Wall, Bad and Thriller broke records around the world and Thriller became the best-selling album of all time.
There are many iconic moments that the world received from Michael Jackson from mesmerizing videos to the night everyone remembers Motown 25 and Michael’s iconic dancing. Over the years Michael was known for his changing facial features however the love for Michael’s music never changed. His life was not without challenges including speculations, lawsuits and more. Through out his life Michael Married and divorced Lisa Marie Presley the daughter of Elvis Presley and Debbie Rowe which he has two children with; Michael Joseph Jackson Jr. (“Prince”), Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson, and Prince Michael Jackson II (“Bigi”) who was born through a surrogate.
On June 25th 2009 the King of Pop passed away leaving a legacy of music and memories. A new movie Michael was just released starring Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the King of Pop.
