An Evolving Brand
The brand receives a good amount of recognition over the years and after Thierry passes away in 1878, Hermès's son, Charles-Émile takes over management from his father in 1880, and moved the shop to 24 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, where it remains.
He begins to expand with both audience and product line in mind. In 1900, they develop the first Hermes bag, which was designed for riders to travel with their saddles.
1922 Hello Handbags
The first leather handbags are introduced after Emile-Maurice's (one Thierry's sons) wife complains of not being able to find one to her liking. Emile- Maurice personally designed and modeled it after the totes used by Argentinian cowboys while on a trip to South America.
