In Term 2, our Year 7 EAL students will be exploring the theme of ‘The Lost Island.’ Throughout this engaging topic, the focus will be on refining students’ ability to construct coherent paragraphs while paying close attention to punctuation, capitalization, and proper tense usage. We will make connections to basic terminology referring to geographical features and map coordinates. This term promises an enriching experience aimed at fostering both creativity and language proficiency in our students. We will continue to work on developing the four essential language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

Computing

Four language skills will be assessed: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will be asked to complete a range of reading, listening and writing tasks throughout the term. Speaking performance will assessed during project presentation, and class discussions. Students will also complete end of topic assessments which will cover all four language skills. They will have to answer open-ended, true/false and multiple choice questions (listening and reading), and produce a longer piece of writing (a diary entry/an essay).

In English, Year 7 will finish their scheme of work on writing short stories, then undertake an assessment on their learning. Once this is complete, they will begin learning about poetry, including how to analyse poetry, peotic terminology and the different poetic structures.

In this term in Science, Year 7 students will complete their learning on the Cells topic started in term 1. They will then move onto Elements, Atoms and Compounds where they will learn about chemical formula. This will be followed by Forces where they will investigate balanced and unbalanced forces and learn about the different types of forces. We will then end the term on Structure and Function of Body Systems which includes breathing and movement.

In Science we use Teams to support learning. Lesson and revision resources are placed in Files on the class Team.

Students will undertake practical work in the style of Melodrama. We will explore the work of Marcel Marseau and the genre of Silent Movies.

Links to video exemplars and websites will be shared with students via the Year 7 Drama Team.

This term Year 7 will be working in the genre of still life under a theme of “Forms in Nature” building first terms learning of the formal elements of Tone, Line, Shape, Form and Colour. Analysing artists painting, drawing and sculptures they will research, The Golden Ratio, Andy Goldsworthy and Yayoi Kusama.

In the second half of Term 2, pupils will study ‘The Tempest’ by WIlliam Shakespeare and will focus on theatrical settings and characters.

In year 7 pupils will be completing the drawing skills project or a mini hand held ball bearing game. Both projects will involve elements of graphics design. The Drawing Skills project will teach pupils a wide variety of sketching techniques that are used within product design. The ball bearing game will allow pupils to work with acrylic and timber, they will use machinery and hand held tools to create their user focused product.

In DT we use Seneca and Design Technology Student to support learning.

In Year 7 Music, students will study two units: I’ve Got Rhythm and Form and Structure. In the first unit, students will study the importance of pulse and beat in Music and develop their sense of rhythm and understanding of rhythmic notation. In the second unit, students will explore different structures in Music such as binary and ternary form. Students will also learn to compose their own question and answer phrases.

In Music, all lesson resources, revision materials and assessment materials are posted on the Teams page of the class, which all students have access to.

In year 7 PE, boys will be completing a scheme of work on striking and fielding and rugby. Girls will be completing a scheme of work on striking and fielding and football. Students will learn the technique for different skills within each sport and how to use these within a competitive game situation. Students will understand the rules and how to implement these into their learning. Within each lesson students will be questioned about the sports techniques, tactics and rules and how these can be implemented fairly in a game.

All communication, reflections and suggested videos for students to access will be available on the PE groups Teams page.

This term we have been learning about Binary and Denary numbers including Logic Gates, how the circuits. In Binary numbers, we looked at conversions between Binary to denary and Denary to Binary, representing 4 and 8-bit numbers, adding Binary numbers and Binary left and right shift. There are number of resources which can be used to support with this topic. This is a key GCSE computing topic, all the circuits use Logic Gates and Computer can only understand binary numbers.

Wider reading We want all students to gain a love for PE. This term we are encouraging all students to find an autobiography of their favourite sports star. When reading the book, identify the details of why they have become a successful athlete.
