AMITA BENEDICT As an A-level student studying, graphics, textiles, and film studies, I enjoy the creative elements these courses have to offer. This has led me to pursue a career in Interior design. I am eager to create innovative, practical, and unique spaces by gaining understanding the design processes, materials and model making. My portfolio will show a range of skills that I have acquired through my textiles, graphics and life drawing projects.
For my initial still life project, I studied the human skeleton , this helped me to understand the body and its structure. By observing various angles to reference my sketches. I started studying the shape and outline, I showed the light and shadow of the skull, using cross-hatching technique.
In this series of figure studies, I focused more on the garments and their silhouettes. I used models of different body types, each in different poses to show the fit of the garment on the body. I used shadows to create definition and depth on the figure.
My Observational studies of the naked body help me to understand the movement of light and shadow when the body is contorted or perched in different positions.
Here I worked with different Media’s like biro, oil pastel and acrylic. I have used oil pastel for my contemporary artist research that works with figures. I enjoy working with oil pastel because of its texture.
My First year Foundation book, is an experimental sketchbook, where I looked at both Interiors and Fashion and reach a decision on what I will carry throughout the upcoming projects. I have looked at three different countries; Mexico, Russia and Native America, this is where I have experimented with different techniques and styles that reflect each country using the traditions to find aspects that inspires me.
These are some samples and illustrations from my study of Russia. They were chosen from my moodboard that inspired my various interpretations, for example my fashion illustration above was inpsired by the russian royal dress. My favourite techniques were snip and stitch, because I liked the way it is layered with different colours that connect with Russia and I also like the texture of it. I researched into John Galliano, a fashion designer who’s Autumn /Winter 09 collection was inspired by Russia. I like that his use colour resembles the cool tones of Russia.
For my study of Mexico, I looked into various aspect like; interiors, festivals and fashion. I was fascinated with the stained glass windows, that I decided to incorporate it as not only a sample, but a page design. I also created my own stencil and used it on 2 different medias like card and fabric. What I liked about my research on Mexico was the bright colours and patterns. For My artist research, I looked into the mexican painter Frida Khalo and have created an inspired page.
For My Native America research, I’ve looked into Interior Designer, Beth Haley. I picked out few key elements from my moodboard and created samples that I think works well and highlight the authentic and organic colours in Native America.
At the end of experimenting with all three different countries I concluuded that I will follow through with Native America because I like the colour palette and the native patterns. I also like how little things have deeper meaning for native americans. I planned on starting with costume and have looked at creating a breast plate as part of accessories. I have looked at different shapes, patterns and colours that inspired my designs for my final piece.

This my narrative moodboard, where I looked at a Native American poem and picked out words that I would further develop to create samples.
These are some of my samples and illustrations based on my chosen images from my collage. My selected word ‘treasure chest’, has inspired my sample where I created a rough texture immitating the feel of the wooden chest by painting and burning lutradur. The word ‘leave’ reminded me of footprints, furthermore in Native America footprints implies a message from the spirit world and guidance. I created a freehand embroidered sample on a sponge painted background. For the chosen word ‘Sky’, I interpreted a sample of a feather carved into wax, feather symbolises inherent virtue and connections. Looking at ‘earth’, I focused on water, where I created stained glass sample of fishes, these symbolize life, spiritual change and motion. It signifies water and the flow of life from the Earth.
After analysing 4 key images, and creating samples and illustrations from my initial moodboard. I chose one image to focus on and develop further. In selecting the earth landscapes, I narrowed my research on the element of water. Honing and refining my samples gave me an idea of what possible textile techniques I could incorporate in my final piece.
I also researched into interior designers such as Lauren Evans who’s designs are inspired by water. Evans finds inspiration in layering pattern, color, and texture to exude effortless individuality. She even said “Blue reminds us of the sea and the sky, and darker hues can be as relaxing as they are intriguing. Blue can also be an important grounding color: it exudes confidence, openness and stability.� when designing her living room.
I moved on to creating my moodboard of different rooms to help get a clear idea on what room I want to design and maybe take inspirations from different rooms and incorporate it. I also created two other moodboard, one on what I am going to make for my final piece, which is a curtain, I looked at different shapes patterns and different shades of blues and browns, and the other is a moodboard of what I would like in my room
Here I am currently working on my wall elevations. I have designed two different ideas of a curtain and wrote a few textile techniques that I would like to incorporate onto my final piece, which is currenly in progress. I have drawn up my wall elevation and have started to digitalise them, I used both Photoshop and Illustrator to assist me in these digital sketches

raphics year 2 project
For my first artist research I looked into studio Bones where I analysed some of their works like Bungou Stray Dogs and My Hero Academia. In my first outcome, I created a poster. where I used my own photographs to digitally sketch in an animated style.
Here I worked on my digital outcome inspired by my research on MAPPA studios. I looked at their works like JuJUtsu Kaisen, Banana Fish and Kakegurui. I selected one of my sketches that I preferred because of the ananimated design style. Here I used layers in Photoshop to build up and work closely on different aspect of the sketch in detail.
For Graphics I am currently working on my final outcomes. I have started to digitalise some of them, these are referenced from some of my own primary photos and drawings. I have incorporated themes and elements from the animes previously mentioned. For example friday’s digital sketch was inspired by MAPPA’s animation on JuJutsu Kaisen, I used the red element to create a link with the idea of it being chaotic moreover the design pattern on the character’s face is incorporated onto my design character to show its influence.
