Location- Civil court metro station, Pune

Places near transit hub have the potential to become vibrant public places. Places whre peo ple not only ‘pass through’ but also choose ‘to be’. Transit integrated developement can syenergize on the already existing footfall that transit stations receive along with the the diverse functions that a mixed use developement pro vides to create vibrant public realm. From which the developement and the transit nodes can both mutually benefit

The study of this design thesis design began with the reali zation of the immense potential the selected project site has to become an active public realm. A place which is accessible to the city’s diverse residents. Key idea is to design the place in a way which can activate the site - physically, social ly and economically and create a lively, robust public realm. The project invetigates how the integration of transit point with a mixed use development can lead to emergent synergies. Drivation of the area program is based is based on the prevaling tod norms as well as contextual studies and community surveys. An attempt in identifying the needs of the people and city and inteegrating it in the design has been made ehich can help instil a sense of own ership of the site in people’s minds. The the project has been envi sioned not only as a place of transit or a public place for the neighbourhood but also as a destination for the residenets of the city.

About the firm

Ajay Shirke and Associates, founded in 1995 based in Pune, is an Indian architectural practice that is, creative, research, and design-based, creative, and contemporary architectural practice, specializing in architecture, consultancy and interior design. The firm has projects dealing in both the commercial and residential areas.

During my internship period, I worked on presentation drawings, working drawings, 3d models and rendering.

Here is one of the project that I have worked on.

Location : Ahmednagar, Maharashtra.

A 9-BHK residence for a joint family of 9 members with media room, gym, library, and spa.

The responsibilities which came along in this project included designing the elevations, developing 3d model, working drawings, presentation plans etc.

There was a lot of understanding on the civil work and planning of the project throughout it’s execution stage.

HOUSING

The project was proposed to explore the potential of innovation and creativity in private sector Housing for an assorted class of residents in a partially vacant site at a prime location in the heart of the city.

The project aim was to redevelope the housing colony for residents of Anandnagar, Pune. The colony established in 1980, has now seen one entire generation who had bought this flats have now be come senior citizens wanting to lead peaceful serene life in the chaos of urban scenario but not wanting to leave their neighbourhood. Anandnagar society is located on the prime loca tion of Pune the plot is bounded on the north side by 42 m wide paud road and metro line and on the east side by ideal colo ny. Anandnagar currently has 25 buildings and approximately 500 tenements and 60 shops. The plot area is approx. 33000 sqm. The apartments have been designed such that each room should have its own private sheltered open space.

The extended decks for each room shelter the internal spaces from the excessive heat in the summer while becoming landscaped out door extensions to the rooms.

The housing project was designed in response to the social needs of the residents of the city of its location providing each apartment with 20% open area as extensions to the internal spaces, maximizing on natural light and air with cross ventilation to every room the house, creating an urban high rise towers that will allow its users the openness of the low rise structures that they have used to living in

FINE ART INSTITUTE

Location- Darewadi pune

Site area- 38,085 sq.m

The project shows the process of designing a Fine art Insti tute in a village Darewadi, on the outskirts of Pune city, close to khed-shivapur, an upcoming industrial area with many educational institutions in the vicinity. Measuring 9.4 acres. It is accessible to 5.5m road and has undulating slopes and commands good views of the surrounding hill slopes and farmland.

The major aim for the design was the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, Contributing to the feeling of openness, limit ing vehicle movement, Segregation of public and private circulation. Several qualitative aspects were also considered while designing this campus such as students should feel a degree of ease while moving around campus. Visual connectivity also pays an important role in the designing, paying more attention to spaces that might become spaces where the students gather and interact.

The studios have been provided courtyards to connect with sur rounding views and vistas, which actually would help in the informal way of learning. A central plaza had been located such that it would connect to all spaces and act as an interaction space for the students and helping in visually connecting the people.
