A Brief History Of Centerville , Utah 84014
Centerville, Utah is situated along the Wasatch Front and is considered to be one of the oldest places in Utah. It was here that Brigham Young first preached his teachings about the coming forth of the Son of God to save the world from its sin and bring back to heaven all mankind. As a result, the population of this city grew tremendously and there were several converts as well as converts of the gospel as a whole. Many of the converted did not want to go back to their homes and so they made it their goal to build a temple on Mount Morianton as a place of worship. They believed that if they built this temple then the Lord would come down and dwell in it. When the church first was established in Centerville, Utah there were several converts to the gospel but as time went on the population of this city started to decline. The population dropped to the point where there were only a few hundred people left. They were mostly the wives and the children of those who had left the church and were leaving to become Christians. This was a difficult time for the Saints and it was at this point that many of the original converts fled to different parts of Utah. The members of the Church also left their homes to go where they could find other converts. The members stayed in various places including Utah Valley, Colorado City, and even Las Vegas.
Centerville was again visited by members of the church as the population of the town began to grow again. There were still members of the church living there but as it seemed there was no longer any activity in the area and so most of them moved on and joined the growing community in the Salt Lake Valley. Today Centerville is a town with a population of about thirty thousand people and has a small downtown area as well as a lot of historic buildings that are part of the Centerville history. It is very interesting to learn about the history of this place and the people who once lived in this area before the migration to the Salt Lake Valley.
