The Ministry of Education subsidized the cost of City & Guilds online exam Maths and English exams for 10,000 students last year to increase the number of external examinations available to students.
These tests were taken by 11,000 students in Grade 11 who were engaged in the Career Advancement Program (CAP). More than 80% of CAP students received a passing grade in Maths and 78 percent in English, compared to just 71% and 60% for the Grade 11 cohort, respectively.
The Ministry of Education secured a contract with City & Guilds in 2011 to conduct examinations in mathematics and English at all CAP locations island-wide. When the Ministry designated 150 public high schools as City and Guild's centers to register Grade 11 pupils in Maths and English in January 2012, the collaboration was strengthened.
