Amherst to Honor Vietnam Veterans with Moving Wall On Display at Souhegan High School, July 19-23
W
hen you start making plans for your summer vacation, make sure to include the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall which will be coming to Amherst July 19-23. It will be a memorable and solemn occasion. A Salute to the men and women who served in the Vietnam War and the 58,360 who gave their lives for their country. The Moving Wall is 127 feet in length and 10.2 feet in height, a halfsize replica of the Washington, DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial. If you haven’t had a chance to view the Wall in our nation’s capital this is your chance to honor friends, family members and neighbors who served during the Vietnam War. Marie Grella has spent two and a half years as facilitator for the event. With support from the Milford Rotary Club Foundation in the form of a $5,000 check, the arrival of the Wall has been formalized. There will be additional fund raising in the next few months to keep the Wall moving and to fund a museum for all the artifacts left at the wall. Marie is hoping to raise another $5 to $10,000. All sponsors and donors will be acknowledged. There will be a motorcycle procession as the Wall travels to Amherst. “I encourage people along the way to fly their flags,” she added. The exact route of the procession will be posted as the date draws closer. It will be traveling down Route 122 to Boston Post Road as it travels to its destination of Souhegan High School. Interested in supporting The Moving Wall event by purchasing some new USA colors to fly at your house? Place your order for a made in America 3’x5’ flag by emailing info@MovingWallNH.org or by contacting Marie Grella . The cost is $25 per flag and all proceeds go to The Moving Wall event in July. Drop off your tattered and worn flags on Marie’s porch for proper handling. Marie and her troop of dedicated volunteers will also have flags for sale during Amherst’s July 4th Celebration on the Town Common.
Flag Day 5K was a Running Success!
