UNIFORM GUIDE

INTRODUCTION

This guide aims to give parents information on how the uniform should be worn, i.e. what goes with what and in what season.

Amesbury School introduced a new daywear uniform in September 2023. Amesbury is a sustainable school and seeks to reduce unnecessary waste, and therefore a two year implementation period is in place to allow children grow out of old uniform / wear out old uniform and for supplies to be used up. The new uniform is supplied by Schoolblazer and will be compulsory in September 2025.

Secondhand uniforms continues to be sold. At the bottom of this guide is further detail on the items we will not be replacing, and that continue to be supplied by the school as stocks run off.

This guide relates to accessing and wearing the new school uniform and existing games kit. The school is keen to ensure children get proper wear from their clothes, please continue to wear out old uniform until September 2025. This guide provides guidance around wearing ties, coats, hats and blazers.

DAY WEAR

The supplier of Amesbury’s day wear uniform is Schoolblazer and is available online.

SECOND-HAND UNIFORM

Second hand sportswear and non-retiring old uniform items can be obtained by emailing SHU@amesburyschool.co.uk to make an appointment.

OLD STYLE NEW UNIFORM

BABY AMESBURY

There is no uniform requirement. Please ensure your child is comfortably dressed, and ensure you provide at least one set of spare clothing, as well as suitable outwear for the weather, e.g., sun hat in Summer, warm coat / all in one in winter.

GUIDELINES FOR WEARING BLAZERS

APPLICABLE TO YEAR 3 AND ABOVE

School blazers are required on the following occasions:

• Key services, e.g. Remembrance Day, Carol Service, Harvest Festival

• Speech Day

• Interviews, e.g. with the Head, senior schools

• School Trips

• Choral Evensong

OLD AMESBURY UNIFORM THAT WILL NOT BE RETIRED IN SEPTEMBER 2025

Navy School Coats

Due to the durability of coats (vs trousers or jumpers), we do not expect parents to replace existing navy school coats which are in good wear on the school uniform switch over date of September 2025. These coats can be worn after this date and will continue to be available in the Second Hand Uniform Shop and in the School Uniform Shop. There are good stocks of this coat available in both shops.

GUIDELINES FOR WEARING TIES

The wearing of ties is optional during the normal school day for boys and girls. Compulsory wearing is for boys only, on formal occasions only for Year 3 and above; e.g. Choral Evensong, Speech Day, Carol Service, interviews with the Head or Senior Schools

HATS AND BAGS

It is compulsory for children to wear a cap or sun hat during the Trinity Term and the first half of Micklemas Term.

Schools hats are supplied by Schoolblazer from September 2025, school bags are supplied by us from year 5 onwards, or can be obtained from Schoolblazer for year groups R–Y4.

The school understands the affection parents have for the Amesbury tartan. It is a bespoke item that is not available through Schoolblazer, nor is anything similar. We confirm that the supplies of existing tartan items can continue to be worn beyond the September 2025 date with white shirts alongside the blue skirts and pinafores as they are complimentary. There are good supplies of all tartan items in the Second Hand Uniform Shop and in the School Uniform Shop. Please note there are no plans to reprint the fabric, the items available will run down over time.

Old Style Boys’ blazer

The old style boys’ blazer is a shade darker than the new blazer but identical in almost every other respect and we do not require this items to be retired at the September 2025 deadline. It can be worn by both boys and girls.

Whilst we have a deadline of September 2025 for the full implementation of the new Amesbury uniform, we encourage parents discretion around this deadline e.g. if your child has one more year at the school and their old style brown jumper still fits, don’t buy a new jumper for one year. Amesbury is a sustainable school and we do not expect parents to throw away items with wear in them where they can still be useful for short periods.
