C O -C URRICULAR A CTIVITIES 2026—2027 In our school aims we describe how we want to develop in every pupil the skills, aptitudes and abilities required to become emotionally resilient and autonomous learners. We want to encourage in every child a sense of commitment, to value high achievement, to be prepared to adapt and to be innovative. Our Co-Curricular Activity programme plays an important part in enabling us to work towards these aims. It does so by extending the curriculum beyond that which is taught in timetabled sessions. These co-curricular activities offer pupils opportunities:• For learning the value of teamwork, individual and group
responsibility, physical strength and endurance, competition, diversity, and a sense of culture and community.
• To apply academic skills in a real-world context and are thus
considered part of a balanced education.
• To make choices in terms of what they want to do, or not do as the case may be, which in itself can be educational.
Should you have any queries, please email: schooloffice@amesburyschool.co.uk

T ERMS & C ONDITIONS A PPLICATION P ROCESS CCAs in Section A incur a cost. The CCAs in Section B, offered by Amesbury staff, are free of charge. Please note, that whilst we do our best to accommodate pupils wishing to join CCAs mid-term, at times due to timetabled activities, exams or productions, we may need to delay the start date for a sign-up until a later date/next term. For mid-term applications, please email co-curricular@amesburyschool.co.uk. For termly signups, applications should be made using the relevant online CCA Application Form; the link will be provided each term.
I NJURY Should your child be unable to attend a lesson due to serious/long term injury, we will endeavour to fill the CCA with another pupil. With agreement by the coach/teacher then no charge will be made.
I LLNESS & O THER A BSENCE FROM S CHOOL If a child is unable to attend school due to short-term sickness, bad weather or personal holiday etc. we will do our best to offer a catch-up session when they return to School. However, if this is not possible the CCA(s) will be charged.
N ON A TTENDANCE DUE TO S CHOOL E VENTS We endeavour to avoid CCA clashes with School Events, however, should your child be offered the opportunity to attend a Sport Event (outside of Wednesday or Thursday fixtures), it is the parent/child’s decision whether to attend this event or their CCA. If the Sport Match is selected, we will do our best to offer a CCA catch-up session, however, if this is not possible the CCA will be charged. When a pupil has a trip or is away on a residential, they will not be charged for their CCA(s). Where possible, catch-up lessons will be arranged.
W ITHDRAWAL P ROCESS All pupils will continue with their CCAs term to term, year on year (see below), unless specific notice to withdraw is provided. When withdrawing a pupil from an activity, notice of withdrawal must be given before the first day of the half term holiday in order for payment and lessons to cease on the last day of that term. Failure to adhere to the withdrawal deadline may incur a term’s charge.
P UPIL B EHAVIOUR Co-Curricular Activities are deemed a privilege based on the assumption that a child is behaving well in school. If a child has behaved poorly and has been awarded a detention, the detention will take precedence and the child will be required to attend the detention. The cost of the missed Co-Curricular lesson will be the responsibility of the parent, not the school. 2

PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT I NSTRUMENTAL AND V OICE T UITION Mark Reynolds : Head of Performing Arts Instrumental and vocal tuition raises the musical attainment of pupils, encourages self-confidence and helps pupils develop a sense of personal achievement and self-expression.
Tuition
Tuition is provided by a team of visiting self-employed teachers using the facilities at Amesbury. Tuition is available in the following: Bass Guitar Cornet Flute Percussion Tenor Horn Viola
Classical Guitar Drums French Horn Recorder Trombone Violin
Clarinet Electric Guitar Piano Saxophone Trumpet Vocal
It may be possible to provide tuition on other instruments subject to sufficient demand and the availability of a teacher. Pre-Prep (Years 1 & 2) Lessons will be allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis to Year 2 and, if space permits, to Year 1. Lessons for Pre-Prep pupils are scheduled at fixed times, either during breaktime, before or after school, or during Performing Arts. Any parent who wishes to commence music lessons for their child prior to Year 1 should email co-curricular@amesburyschool.co.uk Prep School (Years 3-8) With terms differing in length, the total number of lessons given in any term can vary. Lessons last for thirty minutes. This allows for specific teaching and a clear programme of study which aids the development of both technical and stylistic skills. Timetables for lessons are organised on a rotating system. Lesson times can be viewed on the iParent App. It is the responsibility of the pupil to make the necessary arrangements with subject staff to be excused for a music lesson and to make up class work afterwards. This allows minimal disruption to the academic curriculum. Break and lunch time lesson slots are allocated to pupils with educational needs, agreed in partnership with the Learning Support Department.
4
Availability for new music applications will be confirmed at the start of each term once timetables have been arranged. We will always try to fit new applications into the timetable but this cannot always be guaranteed and in these instances pupils will be added to the waiting list.
Practice Diary
A practice diary is used as an aide memoire for the pupil and a point of contact between the teacher and parent. This diary is used as a positive aid to encourage regular work habits.
Examinations
Pupils are under no obligation to take examinations, but it is recognised that in most cases they provide a valuable incentive and measure of progress. Amesbury enters pupils for examinations administered by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity Guildhall. Pupils entered for examinations will have the cost of the entry fee added to the end of term bill.
Additional requirements for tuition
Upon acceptance of instrumental lessons you will be contacted by the relevant tutor to discuss any additional requirements needed for tuition. Where music is concerned your child will be supplied with the appropriate manual, the cost of which will be added to the end of term bill.
Fees
Payment for tuition is required each term upon receipt of an invoice sent directly to parents by the individual instrumental tutors. The charge for lessons is £25.00 per 30 minute lesson.
5
PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT L AMDA Susannah Wilson LAMDA tuition is offered to pupils in Years 3-8 in addition to their curriculum Drama/PFA lessons. The focus of this CCA is to promote self-confidence, develop communication skills, and to give learners the opportunity to explore and enjoy performance and public speaking. Technique is taught using vocal and physical exercises, improvisation, scripted scenes and fun drama games. Role-play is used to create and explore original, imaginative and entertaining characterisations. Prep School (Years 3-8) LAMDA lessons are generally taught in groups of 6 pupils in sessions of 30 minutes. Pupils do not miss academic lessons as sessions are run at break and lunch times. Timetables are the same each week throughout the term and will be displayed on the board outside the PFA Office. Applications will be confirmed at the start of each term once timetables have been arranged. Individual tuition may be arranged by special agreement.
Reporting
Progress is monitored throughout the year with regular updates to parents throughout the term. All pupils taking a LAMDA examination will receive a full mark sheet and certificate from the examining board.

PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENT D ANCE Charlotte Carnes : Head of Dance Rebecca Paris : Dance Teacher The aim of Amesbury’s Academy of Dance is to build confidence and creativity through a holistic approach to dance. In our dance spaces we aim to ignite imagination and excite a curiosity for dance, allowing Amesburians to be expressive, take risks and be their authentic selves without fear of judgement. Dance at Amesbury provides an outlet for self-expression and movement. Through studying the art form, pupils build upon their dance composition, appreciation and performance skills, blending their artistic practice with physical activity. At Amesbury we feel passionately about the positive impact dance can have on a child’s personal development, sense of self-worth, passion and zest for life. We aim to encourage and reveal pupils’ creative potential through dance. Our philosophy is that dance is for all with our Hip-Hop, Ballet, Modern, and Contemporary classes all being non-selective. We do offer further provision for pupils who are extremely passionate about dance and excel on a technical or performance level with 13+ scholarship tuition and the opportunity to audition for Amesbury’s two dance crews: ADC for Years 3 – 5 and Troupe for Years 6 – 8. Parents are able to watch CCA dance pupils perform in recitals throughout the year, Pre-Prep in the Michaelmas term during the CCA Dance Recital and Prep School in the CCA Dance Production which will be schedule for either the Lent or Trinity term, dependant on school events (parents will be notified of the date in advance). Teachers are always available to discuss pupil progress so please email Miss Carnes, Head of Dance on c.carnes@amesburyschool.co.uk if you have any questions. Please note, that whilst we do our best to accommodate pupils joining Dance CCA’s that have not signed up at the beginning of the academic year, at times due to exams or productions, we may need to delay the start date for sign-ups until a class has completed an exam or show.
Ballet
In Ballet at Amesbury, pupils not only develop their classical technical skills but also, the art of storytelling through classical movement. Pupils in the Pre-Prep learn the basics of classical ballet technique and in the Prep School, begin to work towards ISTD Classical Ballet Examinations from Grade 1 upwards. Imperial Classical Ballet is based on the teaching of the French School at the Paris Opéra. Focusing on encouraging a sound basic technique and an understanding of musical interpretation, it provides the essentials of a pure classical training. It is not compulsory for pupils to take ballet exams, but pupils will be working on the ISTD syllabus in lessons. From Year 3 upwards, Ballet pupils will not be working towards choreography for dance recitals in their ballet lessons due to the commitment, time, and dedication it takes to prepare for ballet examinations.
8
Please note, exam candidates require knowledge and skill of the previous syllabus for the exam criteria. We advise that ISTD Ballet exam pupils prioritise Ballet session attendance and aim to make-up any missed lessons ahead of exams. Pupils being entered for ballet exams maybe be required to attend additional preparation lessons in the holidays. Parents will be contacted directly regarding ISTD classical ballet examination details.
Hip-Hop
Hip-Hop at Amesbury is taught through a blend of urban styles. Pupils are encouraged to build their freestyle ability in lessons as well as develop upper body strength in order to achieve break dancing freezes and movements. In the studio, pupils learn new commercial sequences incorporating the latest trends and rehearse technical exercises to develop Hip-Hop skills. As pupils move up through the Prep school, as well as developing Hip-Hop technique, pupils learn how to build choreographic skills, analyse street crew formations, and collaborate with others to develop street style choreography.
Modern (Reception-Year 2)
In Modern, our Pre-Prep dancers explore the joy of movement through imagination and music. Pupils develop fundamental dance skills while experimenting with different ways of moving through activities and choreography. Sessions aim to build confidence, creativity, technique, and early performance skills in a fun and supportive environment. Please note that pupils should re-enrol at the end of Year 2 if they wish to join Modern Fusion in the Prep School (Year 3), as it follows a different approach to Modern Dance.
Modern Fusion (Year 3 & 4)
In Modern Fusion, pupils build on their foundational skills by exploring a wider range of movement styles and qualities. Dancers work with music to develop their rhythmic interpretation through movement. Pupils refine their technique while creating and performing more structured sequences. They also develop choreographic skills and use their growing dance knowledge to enhance performance quality and theatrical expression. Please note that Year 4 pupils will automatically enrol in Year 5 Contemporary at the end of the academic year.
Contemporary (Year 5-8)
Contemporary dance almost defies description because it can be balletic or wholly abstract, jazz-influenced or lyrical, structured or unconventional, all of which will be explored through choreography in lessons. In Contemporary at Amesbury, we strive to blend together modern dance pioneers with recent trends under the ever -evolving umbrella of Contemporary. Contemporary gives pupils the freedom to explore movement as an outlet for expression, whilst building the physical skills that underpin the technical foundation to many elements of dance.
9
Troupe & ADC
Pupils from Year 3–8 are able to audition for a position in Amesbury’s two dance crews at the beginning of each academic year. To gain a position, pupils will be required to participate in a dance workshop in front of an audition panel as well as prepare a one-minute solo piece. As pupils have to prepare a one-minute solo dance to a set piece of music, a deadline is given to sign-up for auditions. The deadline is set to allow all auditionees a fair amount of time to prepare their solo piece, review the audition criteria and to manage audition expectations. If pupils have not signed up by the deadline, then they are not able to audition. Each crew rehearses on alternate Thursday evenings from 5.45–6.45pm, following auditions in the Michaelmas term, and culminates in a performance of their set choreography at the Year 3–8 CCA Dance Production. Troupe (Year 6–8) & ADC (Year 3–5) is aimed at pupils who take technical dance classes, love performance opportunities and are extremely passionate and excited by dance. The two dance companies are a real asset to Amesbury school and always light up the dance studio! There is no charge for this CCA, but it is important that dancers prioritise attendance at the rehearsals to maintain their position in the dance crew.
Dance Scholarship & 1:1 Provision
The Year 7 & 8 Dance Scholarship class takes place on Thursdays from 5:00– 5:45pm and is by invitation only. Miss Carnes will contact parents of selected pupils directly with full details. During these sessions, pupils are supported in developing their technical ability, improvisation, choreographic skills, performance quality, and dance knowledge. Audition and interview skills are also explored in depth. Pupils will choreograph or co-choreograph solo pieces to be used for 13+ auditions. Participants are expected to be working at a minimum of Grade 4 standard and demonstrating strong progress against assessment criteria. For 13+ Dance Scholarships, pupils are guided in creating their own dance portfolio and completing any written elements required as part of the application process. The programme is designed to support pupils’ development both within and beyond the studio. We take great pride in seeing pupils flourish across multiple areas, enriching their overall Amesbury experience and benefiting fully from the opportunities within the Performing Arts department. We aim to support and offer 1:1 audition preparation lesson for pupils who are invited to audition for dance associate programmes, professional productions and senior school 13+ dance scholarships. There is no charge for the Year 7 & 8 Dance Scholarship group class; however, pupils are expected to commit additional time independently to prepare for scholarship applications.
Recitals & Examinations
Parents will be notified of the dates for recital, dance platforms, productions and exams once they are confirmed. For CCA Dance Recitals and shows, tickets will be sold to cover the costs of the production and added to the end of term Fees bill. Pupils may also be required to purchase dance costumes. For pupils who are being entered for ISTD Classical Ballet Examinations, entry fees and the cost of extra rehearsals will be added to your termly bill. All additional costs related to exam preparation and recitals will be communicated to parents prior. 10

Dance Uniform
Ballet Please note, our priority is that children feel happy and comfortable in ballet clothing in lessons so please do contact us if you would like your child to wear an alternative ballet uniform. We understand that pupils may wish to wear a ballet outfit that they already have and appreciate that parents might want pupils to wear their current ballet outfit until they have grown out of it. Please note that exact ballet uniform is only required for exams. Ballet Uniform - Reception-Year 2 Pupils are only required to bring in ballet socks and ballet shoes on the day that they have ballet lessons. We suggest canvas or satin ballet shoes.
Ballet Recital Outfits - In November, we have the Reception –Year 2 CCA Dance recital where ballet dancers are required to wear a ballet uniform; parents may be required to purchase this. Details of ballet costumes are sent to parents in advance. Ballet Uniform - Prep School Years 3-8 Please see below the uniform suggested by the ISTD for examinations: It is advised that pupils rehearse in exam uniform, as the more familiar they are dancing in the clothing, the more comfortable they will feel in the exam setting. For lessons, we suggest that pupils purchase a wrap-around cardigan for the colder months and wear non-satin, elastic ballet shoes as these are more durable and practical.
Girls ISTD Ballet Regulation Uniform—Grade 1-5 G1: ISTD sky blue leotard, pink/skin tone ballet socks, blue belt, pink satin ballet shoes G2: ISTD sky blue leotard, pink/skin tone ballet socks, blue belt, pink satin ballet shoes G3: ISTD cherry leotard and belt, pink/skin tone tights, pink satin ballet shoes G4: ISTD purple leotard and belt, pink tights and pink satin ballet shoes G5: ISTD navy blue leotard and belt, pink tights and pink satin ballet shoes Pupils may choose to wear black fitted dance shorts over their leotard for ballet classes if they wish. These can be either: ISTD Unisex Fitted Dance Shorts, or Plain black fitted dance shorts (no logos). For ISTD ballet exams, pupils are also permitted to wear the ISTD Unisex Fitted Dance Shorts over their leotard. *We suggest satin or canvas, elastic ballet shoes for ballet lessons as these are more durable and practical. Satin ballet shoes with ribbons and ballet tights are required for some grades and can be purchased closer to the examination. Parents will be notified of this in advance. Girls are required to wear satin ballet shoes for the examination, as these allow the examiner to see the best articulation and pointe of the foot.
Boys ISTD Regulation Uniform During lessons: White, black or navy t-shirt, black shorts (or Amesbury PE Shorts), white socks, black ballet shoes. In winter: plain black/navy jumper (or Amesbury Sports Jumper). Boys are required to wear a white ballet unitard with black ballet tights or black cycle shorts for ISTD examinations. White socks are required to be worn (including over black ballet tights) and white leather or canvas ballet shoes with elastic. 12
