Survey says community in favor of school referendum COUNTRY BY JESSICA DE LA CRUZ EDITOR@THEAMERYFREEPRESS.COM

The results of a community-wide survey were released by the Amery School District Monday evening, with positive reviews all around.

The survey was conducted in November by School Perceptions, a company based in Slinger, Wis. The goal, in part, was to gage the community’s potential response to a spring referendum, a move currently in consideration by the Amery School Board.

The referendum would take advantage of soon expiring debt load to fund potential projects or district needs without having to raise property taxes. If the board were to move forward with an April referendum, a resolution would need to be approved by the

board this January. The survey asked questions ranging from programming and curriculum priorities, to individual school perceptions and facilities needs. The survey is a major tool to help the district SEE SURVEY PAGE TWO

Governor Walker’s office will soon sort through applicants to fi ll the seat of the recently retired judge Molly GaleWyrick. Last week, Walker confirmed his intentions of appointing a replacement who would be seated between now and the April 4 election. That appointed person, should he or she choose to run, would automatically be on the April ballot. Meanwhile, at least two candidates have announced their intentions to run on the April ballot, appointment aside. A February 21 primary election will narrow the field of candidates if necessary. Polk County’s Assistant Corporation Counsel and Director of Child Support, Malia Malone, formally announced her intentions this week. In a press release sent Monday, Malone says, “It has been a true honor to serve Polk County as the Assistant Corporation Counsel for over ten years and additionally as the Director of Child Support for the last three years. I have spent my legal career working for the people of Polk County and I want to continue to do so as the Malone Branch 1 Circuit Court Judge. My intention when I went to law school was to make a difference in the lives of the people in my community, and my work has given me that privilege. With the news of Judge Molly E. GaleWyrick’s retirement, I took some time to speak with my family, friends
