Will it be on the market? BY APRIL ZIEMER EDITOR@THEAMERYFREEPRESS.COM
Many a deal have been made on the golf course. A recent interaction could be the start of another, the question is if there is a deal to actually be had at this point? During the August 17 Finance Committee meeting, Mayor Paul Isakson said he had been approached by someone who is interested in purchasing the current City Hall building. “I was at the golf course a couple Thursdays ago and a local business person came up and asked what we are going to do with the City Hall building. I said, ‘We are going to sell it.’ He asked how much we wanted for it and I thought he was joking and I laughed and said a dollar, of course joking. Well he came today and toured the building. He has 68 employees to move in as soon as we can vacate. He would like to come up with an agreement with the City on a price and he would like to get the roof fixed this fall. So, he just wants to know the thoughts of the Finance Committee,” said Isakson. “It sounds like he needs to write an offer,” said committee member Tim Strohbush.

Amery’s charm carries 5,376 miles BY APRIL ZIEMER EDITOR@THEAMERYFREEPRESS.COM
While Amery might be locally “famous” for it’s plentiful lakes, quaint parks and unique businesses, it seems the city’s notoriety has now spanned across the globe. Charissa Vasileiou, a
resident of Elateia, Greece, always wanted to be a writer. She said when her first creation started to form in her mind, she envisioned a “Small Town USA” for the background of the story. Vasileiou had a long conversation with a friend about it and this friend, Giota
Tachtara, happened to know quite a bit about Amery. Tachtara is married to Will Stroebel, whose parents are the owners of a farm in the Amery area. Currently, Tachtara and Will Stroebel live in Princeton, New Jersey, but are about to move to Ann Arbor,
Michigan. Vasileiou said, “I wrote this book some years ago, back in 2015. It took a long time to find a publishing house, mainly because the publishers preferred the story to develop in Greece. SEE BOOK, PAGE 2

Stafsholdt vs Schachtner in November BY APRIL ZIEMER EDITOR@THEAMERYFREEPRESS.COM
Republican Rob Stafsholdt will face off against Democratic incumbent Patty Schachtner for the 10th Senate seat in the November election. Stafsholt defeated Cherie Link in the August 11 Primary. Currently, Stafsholt is the representative of the 29th Assembly District.
He did not seek reelection for that seat, choosing Senate instead. Stafsholt is a lifelong resident of St. Croix County who won with 12,563 votes over Link’s 6,828. In Polk County, Stafsholt received 3,273 Stafsholdt votes over Link’s 1,674.
He won in almost every municipality except for Centuria’s Ward One, where Link had 33 votes over his 32 and Milltown’s Ward One, where the two tied with 49 votes a piece. According to a statement issued Tuesday Schachtner night, Stafsholdt said,
“It was a lively Primary Election, and I’m both humbled and encouraged to have this strong show of support from voters across the district. This seat is Republicans’ best pick-up opportunity in November, and I’m committed to leading the charge to make that victory happen.” Voters will decide November 3, 2020.
