More than 30,000 people are expected to pass through the gates of this weekend’s Polk County Fair. That’s almost as many as the entire population of Polk County. And it’s no wonder. In terms of bang for the buck, the Polk County Fair can’t be beat. For the admission price of $6 (Thursday and Sunday) and $8 (Friday and Saturday), visitors can enjoy all of the exhibits and entertainment at the fair has to offer. The storms left the main area of the Clear Lake Campground virtually untouched, while the Maple Knoll area sustained serious damage, rendering the area impassable. help more young people enter the fields of law enforcement and medicine. Mike Seversen was a Polk County Deputy who was injured by gunfire in the line of duty. He succumbed to his injuries just a few years ago. “These are the two career fields that Mike himself wanted to support because of the support he received from them during his life after he was shot,” says Polk County Sheriff Pete Johnson.
To date, the event has helped raise roughly $7,000 for graduating seniors. And Johnson says he encourages anyone interested in a law enforcement or medical career to apply. He adds, “Even in these seemingly turbulent times, the men and women of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office not only serve them during our working hours, but we continue to work at giving back to our community.
