The Amery Housing Authority broke ground Monday on a much-awaited project. The first two structures of four rental units are currently being constructed by Berghammer Builders of Clayton. The units will be side-by-side duplexes located on the east side of Harrison Avenue. Amery Housing Authority

Sheriff’s race likely to be decided in primary

Tony Grimm and Brent Waak have both fi led as Republicans. No Democrats have fi led. Although it’s possible a Democrat could mount a write-in campaign before the Nov. 6 election, such a scenario is hypothetical at this point. The Republican Party of Polk County will hold a forum for Grimm and Waak on Wed., August 1, 7 p.m. at the Trollhaugen Convention Center. Assembly Representative Adam Jarchow will moderate the event.

Aune honored with Quilt of Valor
THE SUN Because of everything he has given, local resident, Oliver “O.J.” Aune, has now received a touching gift. A “Quilt of Valor” was awarded to Aune during a presentation at his home on July 23rd. Quilts of Valor is an organization that presents quality-made quilts to war veterans to show
gratitude for their service, sacrifice and valor in serving our nation. The Quilts of Valor Foundation began in 2003 with a dream, literally a dream. Founder Catherine Roberts’ son Nat was deployed in Iraq. According to the foundation’s website Roberts said, ”The
dream was as vivid as real life. I saw a young man sitting on the side of his bed in the middle of the night, hunched over. The permeating feeling was one of utter despair. Then, as if viewing a movie, I saw him in the next scene wrapped in a quilt.” From the beginning, Rob SEE AUNE ON PAGE 2A

Grimm has worked in law enforcement for 23 years, 16 in Polk County. He has served as coordinator for the St. Croix Valley Drug Task Force and the school resource officer at Unity School District. He is also assigned to the Sheriff’s Investigative Division. He has said his top priorities are ensuring school safety and security, and mitigating drug abuse. Grimm has openly acknowledged an OWI on his record, saying, “I paid a serious price both personally and professionally.
