A few dozen members of Balsam Lutheran Church gathered inside the front doors of their old church home Saturday morning, to say farewell to a place where many

had married, buried, and baptized loved ones. The structure was truly a shell of its former self. No pews. No alter. No stained glass. Prayers were said. A dove was released. Hours later smoke would pour from windows and doors, and

Thanks to quick detective work on the part of the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, 27-yearold David A. Strenke of Luck is in custody following a non-specific bomb threat toward Polk County buildings on March 22. According to the criminal complaint, a call was made to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office just shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22. Only 100 graduating seniors statewide are named ‘Herb Kohl Excellence Scholars,’ and six were within Northwest Wisconsin’s CESA 11. Among them is Amery senior Nathan Thompson. Nathan was selected among statewide applicants for his demonstrated academic potential, outstanding leadership, citizenship, community service, integrity, and other special talents. He will receive a $5,000 schol-
