One of Amery’s municipal parking lots will get a much-needed resurfacing this spring, thanks to the city council’s approval of a bid from Albrightson Excavating of Woodville. According to Public Works Director, Allen “Bones” McCarty, the scope of the project will in-

clude entirely new surface for the parking lot behind the Amery Food Hub, the alley from Center to Birch Streets, and most of Riverside Blvd. from Birch Street south toward Center. The old blacktop will be entirely removed and replaced, with some sections getting new curb, gutter, and sidewalk as well. The project was originally bid out in 2015, with completion

slated for last fall. However, the city rejected the two bids of 204k and 232k in October, hoping that re-bidding the project would bring lower prices in 2016. McCarty says the city received five bids for the project this February, ranging from 209k to 262k, the lowest being Albrightson’s at $209,031.15. Newly seated council mem

Unfortunately, the decisions coming out of Madison have made that harder for far too many people,” she added. “As a community advocate, practicing attorney, and mother, I’ve spent my life working with, and on behalf of, hardworking people. I’ll Odeen take that same approach in my campaign for the state Senate THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 33, 2222 by standing up to Gov. Walker, Sen. Such unused licenses would be considered abandoned, which the amended ordinance also more clearly defines as “a continuing refusal or failure of the licensee to use the license for the purpose or purposes for which the license was granted…for a period of 90 days or more.” According to the amended ordinance, a closing of a busi-

Golf Club, and Village Pizzaria. The number of licenses allowed is based on a state formula. Amery’s licenses could only increase with a gain of 500 or more in population, or in the event a hotel or banquet center with seating of 300 or more were to open and wanted to apply. The most recent addition to the group was in 1997, when legislation changed that allowed certain municipali-

ties to qualify for a “reserve license.” Amery qualified for that license, later awarded to Village Pizzeria. According to City Administrator Darcy Long, the amendment was prompted because of several inquiries about the status of Country Hearth, which has been closed for several months.
