Construction begins on new housing development COUNTRY

A major housing development on Amery’s south side is starting to take shape. City Administrator Darcy Long says it’s Amery’s first residential development in at least five years or more. The development, located behind Slumberland, is a personal venture by Amery resident Justin Hosking, pastor of the Apple River Community Church.
Hosking describes how he became involved in the project. “I went trick-or-treating one of the first years I was in town and thought to myself ‘Somebody should do something with this property.’ The second year I went by there again and thought ‘I’m somebody!’” The existing homes and adjacent property in the ‘Whispering Waters’ development had been tied up with litigation and bank disputes for several years. Through
his acquisition of the property Hosking was able to rezone and re-plat the undeveloped land from 48 to 25 lots. His goal is to keep the new homes as affordable as possible, ranging from $120,000 to $145,000. “There’s not a whole lot available in that price range in Amery and we’ve had people crawling out of the woodwork who are interested,” he adds. “We may add a few homes in the 160k or 180k range,

Lions and tigers and bears! Oh my! A cast and crew of over 40 Amery High School students (and one dog) are ready to present a stage version of the popular classic ‘The Wizard of Oz’ this weekend. Students have been in rehearsal for more than two months now. Director Laura Badman says the biggest challenge has been coordinating a demanding rehearsal schedule. “They’re all so busy at this age, it’s been tough getting them all together,” she says. Audiences will enjoy a colorful, musical adventure as Dorothy (Elizabeth Hutchens) and her dog Toto are whisked away to the magical Land of Oz. As expected, the show

The first time Amery won any kind of state wrestling title was 1960.
Junior David Karpenske achieved many firsts that day at Camp Randall. It was also the first time any boy from the northwest section had won a division championship, and the first time ever that his 133-pound division had been used. By the time he’d graduate in 1961 Karpenske’s re
