The Shorthorn Youth Development Fund Board is excited about the offerings in this live online auction on May 21. We appreciate the support of our many donors for offering elite genetics and unique donations to make this sale a success. The SYDF was established in 2020 as a way to raise funds for the National Junior Shorthorn Show. It takes more than $350,000 to put on the NJSS and it wouldn’t be possible without donations and sponsors. This auction has something for everyone between NJSS lots, genetic lots and more. If you are interested in donating to the SYDF in the future or have questions, contact any of the SYDF Board Members.

“Sunrise
Late 1800’s Lithograph in Original Frame
Donated By: Joan Pierce, Woodlawn Farms
B.R. Pierce (1832-1909), founder of Woodlawn Farms, Creston, Illinois, raised Shorthorns from 1871 to 1881 prior to establishing the longest continuous Angus breeding program in U.S. history. He was the great grandfather of Blanford Pierce who, with his wife Joan, reinstated Shorthorns into the Woodlawn program in 2006. B.R. and his son S.R. Pierce bred, raised and showed the celebrated Woodlawn Advance, Grand Champion Steer of the first International Live Stock Exposition in Chicago in 1900. B.R. was inducted in the Saddle & Sirloin Gallery in 1905. “Sunrise in the Highlands” was part of the Pierce family’s livestock art collection from the time of B.R. through 2024 when, upon Blanford’s death, Joan donated it to SYDF to commemorate the Pierce family’s early days breeding Shorthorns. This peaceful and highly detailed scene is a lithograph of the original painting by Henry Robinson Hall (1859-1929). H.R. Hall was a noted Victorian and Edwardian landscape painter in oils and watercolours, renowned for his paintings of Highland cattle. Restoration of the original wood frame (33” x 25” and in amazing condition) and the addition of acid-free matting and backing to properly preserve the lithograph has been carried out by Master Framer Sandy Clark. Restoration cost was sponsored by Little Cedar Cattle Co. LCCC will gladly provide delivery to NJSS, NAILE, or another mutually agreed location. Shipping is not recommended due to the age of the piece.
