Chairman’s Message Between 2017 and 2022, a proactive Board of Trustees has guided the American Precision Museum (“APM”) through a purposeful Transformation Plan. Our goals included: • Upgrade our exhibits of the manufacturing history that has been influenced by innovations at our site 177 years ago. • Create relevance beyond our region. • Find a niche in the educational ecosystem that sparks young people to pursue the joy of making things. • Develop a base of financial support capable of perpetuating APM into the future. When you read Steve Dalessio’s description of accomplishments over the past year, there could be a temptation to say… “Done!” APM has accomplished its Transformation. In truth, we have created a mandate to proceed. The Mission statement, guiding our new strategic plan is forward looking… “We engage audiences in the stories of human ingenuity through the lens of manufacturing —learning from yesterday, exploring today, and imagining tomorrow.” The ink is not yet dry on our planning process, but initiatives are underway to prepare for a next period of achievement. Inspiring a next generation of makers is core to our intention, and this is addressed by our STEM+ M (manufacturing) Pathways program, which provides unique STEM kits to underserved school systems. In parallel, we have engaged Roto Group of Dublin, OH to work with us to create a museum exhibit master plan that includes repurposing second floor space for additional exhibits plus classroom/meeting facilities. Let me close this year’s message by acknowledging the leader, the staff, the volunteers, and the consultants who have led us to a very good place. While we offer a hearty “thank you" to our employee team of six folks, the year ahead requires some new teammates. By implementing an innovative Co-Executive Director model, Steve Dalessio has helped us recruit Greg DeFrancis, most recently of the MIT Museum. Greg has extensive museum management experience including over 20 years with the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, VT. Within their partnership, Steve will focus on our historic building, our collection and exhibits, operations and physical expansion. Greg will take the lead on the outward facing functions of education content, marketing, donor relations and development. Both will work together to measure and improve the visitor experience. Those guiding the journey of the American Precision Museum are appreciative of the growing support from our many stakeholders, and we are looking forward to 2023-24 being a year of continued progress. The Manufacturing Ledger A Museum is More than Objects. It’s Stories. The American Precision Museum's Manufacturing Ledger is a digital archive that chronicles the stories of manufacturing industry leaders, award winners, and everyday legends. It features individuals who have made significant contributions to their industry and society as a whole. Honorees include manufacturers, machine tool builders, distributors, educators, and advocates in the field. The Ledger is currently accessible online through a dedicated website, with plans to integrate it into a physical exhibit at the museum.

Executive Director's Message Upon reviewing the fiscal year of 2022-2023, it becomes evident that it was filled with triumphs and opportunities for our organization. For the first time, our museum managed to raise an impressive sum of over $1.1 million, all thanks to the incredible generosity of our esteemed members, corporate donors, and private foundations. The tireless efforts of our Development team allowed us to surpass our goal of a $100,000 corporate membership match, resulting in the addition of 17 new corporate members. The resounding success of our fundraising endeavors has instilled in us the confidence to embark on new initiatives and wholeheartedly fulfill our mission. We are immensely grateful for the support of a private family foundation whose generous donation has ensured the funding of our education initiatives for the next three years. As part of our educational endeavors, we have forged partnerships with two esteemed organizations in Chicago, namely SparkShop and Homewood Science Center. This collaboration has given birth to STEM+M Pathways, an innovative program designed to inspire the next generation of makers, innovators, and manufacturers. Through the STEM+M Pathways program, our museum has delivered over 2000 STEM education kits to more than 90 underserved classrooms. In conjunction with this program, we have witnessed a steady increase in school field trips, further solidifying our commitment to providing quality educational experiences. With the pandemic now behind us, we are delighted to report that visitation at our museum has surpassed pre-pandemic levels. Today, visitors can embark on a captivating journey through the 1851 Great Expedition of Industrial Works in the second phase of our Made By Hand to Made By Machine display. This exhibit change and introduction of a new Computer Numerical Control turning center and other exciting modifications ensure that returning visitors always have something new to explore and discover. APM is currently undergoing a period of remarkable growth, as we warmly welcome new staff, volunteers, and board members into our organization. Recognizing the paramount importance of a strong leadership team, we are thrilled to announce that APM has adopted a Co-Executive Director model for our executive leadership. This innovative model will provide APM with robust leadership in the areas of Development, Education, and Operations. Thanks to the invaluable contributions of these exceptionally talented staff members, APM has been able to expand our presence at prominent industry events. We have participated in the International Manufacturing Technology Show Student Summit in Chicago and EastTec in Springfield, MA. These engagements have allowed us to showcase our expertise and forge valuable connections within the industry. We are incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated team of consultants who have played a pivotal role in helping us seize new opportunities and chart a course for the future. With the recent approval of our new 5-year Strategic Plan, we are brimming with excitement about the potential for further growth in the upcoming fiscal year. 6

Executive Director's Message Towards the end of the fiscal year, we received approval for a substantial $500,000 Community Revitalization and Recovery Grant. Once matched, this grant will empower us to expand our museum's second floor, incorporating new exhibit space, an education center, and a conference area. To ensure the resounding success of this expansion, we have enlisted the expertise of a professional exhibit design company, whose proficiency will undoubtedly elevate the overall experience for our visitors. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have contributed to our resounding success and helped APM achieve a prosperous year, while simultaneously laying the groundwork for an even brighter future. Your unwavering support has been instrumental in our journey, and we look forward to continuing this remarkable trajectory together.

STEM+M Pathways The American Precision Museum is increasing its mission impact by making major investments in education outreach. Thanks to generous grant funding, the museum launched the multi-year STEM+M Pathways project in January. JANUARY 2022 Partnering with two Chicago-based STEM education PARTNERSHIP organizations, Homewood Science Center and SparkShop, LAUNCHED we are creating new programs and educational resources serving students in under-resourced schools and communities in Vermont and New Hampshire. Through this project, we engage youth in hands-on science and JULY 2022 engineering challenges that increase their enthusiasm FIRST KITS SENT for STEM while building confidence and new skills and TO UNDERSERVED broadening their career awareness and aspirations. SCHOOLS During the 2022-2023 school year, APM provided over 2,600 individual STEM+M kits to 90 4th–6th grade classrooms in 47 Vermont and New Hampshire schools. The free STEM kits give students a hands-on introduction to manufacturing and design. Lessons provide students dynamic and engaging engineering challenges to spark interest and encourage critical thinking. We aim to help young people build their confidence to be creative innovators and makers and the next generation of problem-solvers. The STEM+M kits developed for this project are unique in that they include exposure to manufacturing technologies and career paths (STEM+M is our shorthand for signifying how we link STEM to Manufacturing in our programs). The program is one strategy APM employs to expand awareness of the diversity of careers in advanced manufacturing and related industries among students, teachers, and parents.

Evaluation studies this year indicate that teachers are benefiting from this program as much as students. The project will continue to evolve to develop additional activities and resources to further engage students, teachers, and families in STEM+M. In the 2023-2024 school year we will be introducing new field trip programs, teacher professional development opporunitites, and out-of-school programming. 14

Field Trips During the 2022-2023 school year, the education initiatives of the museum were focused on three main areas of activity: the STEM+M Pathways project, student field trips to the museum, and special educational events 29 FIELD held at the museum.

TRIPS
The STEM+M Pathways project is helping the museum develop new field trip programs for schools that extend the learning from the classroom into the museum. Teachers and students are immersed in STEM-based activities that connect their classroom STEM learning to the history of innovation on display at the museum. Since Molly Holleran joined us in December the museum hosted students from nine different schools, including elementary, middle school, and high school students. The school year saw 668 students on 29 field trips at the museum.
Education Events The museum continued its important work with families and older youth in the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire outside the school day. The museum co-hosted a summer camp with Springfield, Vermont’s River Valley Technical Center. October saw students participating in a Spooky STEM Story contest in which students were able to write a story related to APM or its history. In February, the museum hosted Kid’s Day of Engineering. Over 50 people attended the event that including visiting scientists and engineers from Vermont and New Hampshire sharing their work with families.

Exhibits The final phase of our display, Made by Hand to Made By Machine, was completed. This section of the display tells the story of the benefits of manufacturing being done by machine rather than by hand and the importance of factories to the community. The display ends with the Great Exhibition of Industrial Works at the Crystal Palace and the formation of the Precision Valley from Windsor, VT, to Hartford, CT.

Collections Collection Development is a growing priority for the museum, and an important initiative this year was to begin regular deaccessioning of surplus and out-of-scope objects. The collections management policy requires that the trustees approve deaccessions, and our goal is to do some of this at every board meeting. Processing our historic book and media collection began last year and continues with sorting and cataloging. To date, over 2,000 books have been processed. Weeding the collection this way helps free up space for objects and activities that better serve our mission. The year’s first deaccession was a coal digger! OUR THANKS GO OUT TO THE DONORS FOR TWO SIGNIFICANT MUSEUM COLLECTION ADDITIONS. The Bannow family gave us an un-serialized Bridgeport milling machine. This machine is important because it was used by the inventor Rudy Bannow. The machine was in the family home before coming to the museum. HAAS Automation donated a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) turning center, a TL-1. This machine is an ideal addition to our Innovation Center and compliments the CNC milling center donated two years ago by HAAS Automation.
