Customize your schedule to learn about strategies to grow your business; hear the latest on innovative clinical care for those living with limb loss/difference; and explore state-of-the-art technologies to learn how to incorporate them into your practice. In addition, don’t forget that all the education offered in San Antonio will be available on our virtual platform for 60 days, starting October 17th. This will enable you to earn up to 100 CEs.

Last but not least, you’ll also have time to get out and explore San Antonio. I hope everyone takes advantage of all this great city has to offer.

O

Join us Thursday morning for our keynote speaker: Mona Patel, founder of the San Antonio Amputee Foundation and a 2017 CNN Hero. I can tell you first-hand that Mona is an engaging, thoughtful individual. She has transformed the lives of thousands of people with limb loss and limb difference and brings unique insights to how these individuals experience the health care process and system. We are also pleased to showcase orthotic care during Thursday’s General Session when former NFL Quarterback, Alex Smith, will offer his personal experience. Later that day, I encourage you to take part in the O&P Experience Zone. This is a great opportunity to see the intersection of technology and clinical care through patient success stories and demonstrations.

Friday morning’s General Session will feature the popular Thranhardt lectures, as well as the new Hans Georg Näder Digital O&P Care Award. On Saturday, join us to learn what AOPA has been working on this year, as well as to meet AOPA’s 2022-23 leaders, and celebrate the Lifetime Achievement, Hamontree, and student poster award winners.

welcome | AOPA National Assembly 20222

Thank you for joining us for the 2022 National Assembly!

Dave McGill, AOPA President

We will kick the 2022 National Assembly off Wednesday evening with our Welcome Reception in the Exhibit Hall. We hope all of you will spend time there learning about the products and services that our supplier members and other exhibitors invest enormous resources in to improve the lives of the patients we all serve.

n behalf of the AOPA Board, Assembly Planning Committee, and our staff, it is my pleasure to welcome you to San Antonio for the 2022 National Assembly. The 2022 National Assembly will provide you the best in clinical, business, and technical education. You will see and learn about the latest technologies and services from our supplier and manufacturer members. We have several new offerings, including two new education tracks: O&P Digital Care and Post-Mastectomy Care. There are also two important networking events scheduled for Thursday and Friday mornings. Together, we will spend our time at the intersection of humanity and technology, learning and networking so we can leave armed with new knowledge to apply to our businesses and practices and energized to tackle the many challenges ahead.

This continuing education module is designed for physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other allied health practitioners. The goal of the course is to demonstrate basic mobility skills required for safety in the limb loss population. First Things First reviews epidemiology related to the limb loss population and evidencebased intervention programs related to fall prevention. We demonstrate practical techniques to help the individual mitigate the force of a fall and get up from the floor after a fall. First Things First is our most introductory course teaching patients, caregivers, and practitioners how to build confidence in basic mobility while reducing risk of falls. The format includes a classroom lecture and a practical portion to allow for hands-on participation. At the completion of the course, rehabilitation professionals will be able to directly apply these skills into daily practice and participants will leave with renewed confidence in their fundamental mobility.

The NEW Digital O&P Showcase is a hands-on event where you will learn about computer-based 3D design software tools utilizing a provided prosthetic and/or orthotic patient case (the patient file, 3D scan, and positive model), exhibitors will present a fabricated mold, device, or 3D print. | AOPA National Assembly 202214

At age 17, Mona was hit by a drunk driver, her right leg pinned between his car and a metal railing. Seven years, twenty surgeries, and two amputations later, Mona started the support group she’d craved throughout her own journey as an amputee. Today, her San Antonio amputee Foundation offers support services, resources, fitness programs and provides home and automobile modifications and prosthetic devices to amputees in San Antonio. We are also pleased to showcase orthotic care during Thursday’s General Session when former NFL Quarterback, Alex Smith, will offer his personal experience.
