Welcome to the 46th annual

Great Lakes Regional Contest

Welcome to the forty sixth annual Great Lakes Regional Contest at the Westin Detroit Metro Airport Hotel in Romulus, Michigan. We are thrilled to see so many returning and new student and teacher faces participating in our 2nd GLR since we returned from COVID.

Our contest committee has been working diligently through out the year to bring you a high quality contest that will help you produce memories that last a lifetime. Make the most of your time here and take in as much as you can. Listen to other performances and while doing it you can make new friends and have fun. Meeting people from other studios is a great way for you to learn while experiencing new things and make friendships that last a lifetime. Both Gina and I met as competitors, we both went into the music teaching business and we maintained the friendship all these years even though we lived hundreds of miles apart.

When you’re participating in the contest, don’t forget to share your experiences. Take your pictures at the AGM photo booth and take pictures with your phones. Send your pictures to our social media by tagging us on Facebook @americanguild or on Instagram @theamericanguildofmusic. Visit our Facebook page where you can see your pics, tag yourself and share with friends at facebook.com/americanguild! If you do make a new friend post it on our facebook page.

Good Luck to each and every one of you . We look forward to seeing you at our National Contest this summer.

Yours in music,

Welcome from the AGM President

Welcome back Teachers, Parents and Students

I am so excited to be in person and on site again this year at the Westin Airport Hotel. Many of you are new to our organization. Please feel free to visit me in the Theory Room to get acquainted if you haven’t registered for a theory test. This is where I “reside” during every contest and I am looking forward to seeing all who are returning from prior years (before the pandemic) as well. Hopefully your music endeavors are back on track to a more normal schedule this year.

There have been necessary adjustments for all of us who are committed to Music Education. For the Love of Music we persevere in offering this venue each year to give our students valuable preparation and performance experience which cannot be duplicated in the studio lesson time.

The Westin is a convenient venue with many amenities for overnight guests. I wish you a wonderful time here as you make new friends during the weekend. Students, do your personal best in every category you have entered and the educational benefits will far exceed any awards you may earn. See you at the Sunday Awards in proper attire.

All the Best, Sue Pennington

About Your Program Book

The contest schedule is arranged alphabetically by instrument. Each instrument is broken down chronologically by day and then subdivided by type of category. The title of each category will appear at the top of the category followed by the room name. If the category title and room do not appear at the top of the column in which your name appears trace UP the preceding column, as the schedule reads from left to right and the bottom of one column flows to the top of the following column. If you have a problem locating your event in the program go to the information table at the AGM Registration Area.
